Why Racebending in Interview with the Vampire Works

Racebending is messy. The problem many of us, and I’m going to speak solely from the Black perspective, is that often times these characters get horrible storylines, styling, and romantic leads. They are put on as the face of the series while being given no protection. Even if they end up being the best parts of the series—it doesn’t stop the horrible treatment they get and the amount of anti-Blackness we as fans have to experience. Especially for characters that end up being net neutral representations. But when it is good … it feels great. I love this show and was on board immediately when I saw the first season one trailer with Louie but even more so after seeing how they were treating his character! Very excited for more Lestat in the next season. Thanks for the wonderful video!
