I'm glad you both enjoyed Battle of Gods. I had forgotten how funny it was and seeing it again was refreshing. I'm excited to hear your thoughts on the final DBZ movie so drop that video when you can 😉

Hot take: I know most people skip the episodic Battle of Gods arc in Dragon Ball Super, but the anime version is stronger. The pacing gives Goku's God transformation more weight, the narrative feels more earned, and the animation flows better. Even if you've already decided, I'd still recommend checking it out on your own time—it's worth experiencing.

It’s difficult to explain how big this movie was at the time for the community. A lot of people forget Dragon Ball as a whole ended in 1997, so heaven help you if you were a Dragon Ball fan in the 2000s. During that time the PS2 era of games carried the franchise, but as far as story content was concerned we didn’t get anything for 15 years. It was almost just accepted that this was how it was going to be. So it was very jarring when we got an announcement of a whole new movie taking place after the Buu saga, written by Toriyama himself. I remember being in high school having downloaded the poster on my phone showing it to anyone that would listen to me. But alas that was back in the day when being an anime fan was considered uncool/weird, so the hype was isolated.
