Ura Meshi

Fun fact the king has the same voice actor as Tsukishima from Haikyuu.

Khota

I'm so happy you guys did it in this order! I loved your reaction to these episodes and I genuinely believe you're going to love the next two episodes! Very excited for your reactions every week

JE RV

I'm not sure, but Knuckles might be an emissor, since lending aura would require to send say aura to the opponent. It would be an interesting approach of a no blasting or offensive use of that category. More likely a conjurer since the summon properties seems to be the stronger part of his ability, but still the aura lending should be a emission ability.

RCG

Knuckles' cat basically functions like Kurapika's Chain Jail when used on Phantom Troupe members. It forces the target into a state of Zetsu, which completely blocks all Nen usage. Once the person he's fighting against "busts," he's essentially won the fight. So yes, Gon can't use any Nen for 30 days. Knuckle is a Conjurer, but he apparently also uses Emission and Manipulation for his ability. Shoot is most likely a Manipulator, as Killua already guessed, combined with Conjuration. We'll see a bit more of him later, along with the purpose of the cage.

Kasturi

Meruem is one of my fav antagonists of all time. The character is flawlessly written with little to no holes in the plot. In fact the whole chimera ant arc is superior in my opinion. You just can't stop re-watching the arc even if it pains you to see characters dying/ getting hurt over and over. I don't think there is even one person in the world who doesn't like how this arc ends. Also, there were few stuff that you guessed right but i'm not mentioning what those are since it'd be a spoiler!

HappyHippo39

The king being born was scary asf 😂

seokjin

where is when life gives you tangerines

Robin Berglund

Knuckle's ability could likely be done with Conjuration. It definately could be done with Specialization. The last variant I can think off would be a combination of Emission and Manipulation. Turning off Gon's aura nodes could be considered Manipulating Gon. Emission/Manipulation or Conjuration is the two usual ways of creating Nen Beasts, which is basically defined as anything created by Nen that can act on it's own once created. Although we learn much more about that in the manga arc after the anime, so you guys won't be likely to see it~

Hayate

They forgot about the oooooopeniiiiing!! :D

RCG

It's actually kind of shocking how close they are on some things. :D

RCG

I'm pretty sure they post "When Life Gives You Tangerines" on Fridays, so tomorrow.

Robin Berglund

Knuckle's statement about not taking damage until the debt is payed means basically that his ability does so that all their Nen-enhanced attacks goes to cover the loan - giving out more loan in Knuckle's case or paying it off in Gon's case, but their Nen defenses are still up. So it is a bit like Kurapika vs Uvogin - Gon's pure physical brawn must overpower Knuckle's physical toughness plus his Nen defense in order to do damage to Knuckle. The same goes the other way around, that is why we see a slight effect on Gon's cheek where he was hit, while he says that it doesn’t hurt at all. This 'invulnerability' of course only works while the opponent has a large enough debt to pay. It also might fail against say really monstrous Chimera Ants if there is one so monstrous that it can overpower his defences without the use of aura.

RCG

I hope they didn’t watch it on purpose. I think they should watch it after the arc is basically over, since there’s a pretty big spoiler.

Pistol Pisces

I feel like knuckle and Todo from jjk would get along

Ethereal

5:55 Wesley laughing at his own IMF joke. We see and appreciate you. And King/Meruem is indeed inspired by Dragon Ball's Cell.

Rare

Knuckles ability is my favorite nen power in the show. It’s clever and puts tension in the show with a built in countdown. I especially like that explaining the ability stalls the enemy’s progress.

These three episodes brilliantly showcase why Chimera Ants arc regarded so highly among fans - it's such an emotional rollercoaster while storytelling never betrays the characters core principles. Many times unexpected plot development or twists ruin characters because writers need them to behave the most convenient way for such development or twists to work more effective. That's not the case with HxH where plot development and twists come because of constant characters' growth, so the writing don't need to adapt characters for circumstances but rather for characters to grow to take on a new circumstances. That's why it felt so right for Gon and Killua to lose their fights because there's still a room for growth. Gon had to feel weakness and vulnerability to appreciate powers he got to this point in his life journey and to understand the complexity of human nature (and this is very different feeling from, say, when Hisoka humiliated Gon in Hunter Exam arc cause Gon didn't know the full extent of his powers yet). Killua had to lose to see how strong the curse his brother put upon him. The fight against Shoot was literally the first time when Killua fully realised how the curse influence his survivor skills, so while he lost, at least, he's now aware of the mental limitation and can work towards fixing it. Meruem and royal guards are fascintating characters. On the surface they're pure evil creatures, but what scares the most in them - the human side that they show in a very twisted capacity. Shaiapouf playing the violin while Meruem degustates someone's body is horrific and a bit similar to the way how the Nazis used music to celebrate and facilitate murder. There's a lot of parallel with a real history hinted, it makes Chimera Ants arc really dark and scary (not in "uh-oh, monsters!" way, but in more cold, pragmatic way because it so easy to extrapolate onto our current world). In that sense having Colt (and Morel with Knuckle, etc.) in the story is huge for balancing out our frail faith in humanity - he's driven by the guilt of not being able to save his little sister, but despite Chimera Ants' cruel regime his first mission after Queen's death was to defend a tiny baby - and not the mighty King which adds more layers to his character. I love Hunter x Hunter! You're going to experience such a great journey!

Dylan Hearts

It's not my favorite, but definitely the most unexpected given the impulsive character of Knuckle lol I didn't knew that it'll be math and finances lesson!

Yellow_Flash

Imagine you give birth to an offspring and they yell "silence" 😭🤣

Robin Berglund

??? I guess these three worked well, but now I'm confused. The next two episodes work well together, then we get a one-off before another two episodes that work well together... I would recommend either having a three episode next week again or going with a solo episode the week after that. But that is only if you want to avoid stopping at weird cliffhangers.

What I love about Killua's "curse" or weakness is that it's been set up so well and so early even. When he met Illumi in the Hunter Exam, Illumi already said those lines that he taught Killua not to fight opponents that are stronger than him. And then when Killua and Gon got captured by the Phantom Troupe and were being guarded by Nobunaga, Killua was already trying to break this curse by attempting to stand up to Nobunaga but Illumi's voice inside his head was playing in his mind, again to tell him not to fight an opponent that's stronger than him. It's like it's kinda being sprinkled in slow dripped throughout the show for a long time and now it's the time to really face it.

RCG

Killua really has one of the best character developments in anime - especially, as you said, when you look at it in hindsight. It's impressive how early the show started to establish it and how consistently it kept evolving, step by step, over the course of the series.

Kindyh Bordat

Hi guys, you should skip that opening because it's heavy on spoiler.

kiyo

this arc is about to get even more crazy!!!!!!!

Astor Lefflinker

Netero's smile after Colt told him that he basically stands no chance against the royal guards, much less the King, is inspirational. Remember when he first eyed Neferpitou and said "this is bad.. that thing is stronger than me.". He said it in an almost a goofy tone, as if in contrast to the impending doom that the audience feels. Like he wasn't scared at all even though Neferpitou is stronger than him. It reminds me of Askeladd's smile near the end of Vinland Saga Season 1 when the King caught onto him. It's that confidence and grin that you'll find a way—you have to, to face the challenge head on, even when the cards are stacked against you.

Astor Lefflinker

I wouldn't worry much about it honestly. It's not as if they're stopping for a long time. They only have 1 week break and they only watch a handful of other shows unlike other reactors who watch gazillions. So their memories are fresh. I mean, I would always vote for more more episodes a week, but overthinking about the flow of episodes is kinda overrated for me. Like, even if they didn't do 83, 84, and 85 together, it would have been fine because ppl requesting them to include 85 that week just set up their expectation that something big was going to happen in that episode. Can you imagine if they only did 83 and 84, and then the next week they start at 85 having no idea that something that big was going to happen? I personally think that would have been funnier/more interesting. So honestly, I think people shouldn't overthink the flow of episodes too much. But if there's a request to vote for more episodes, I would of course always say yes because I want to watch more of their reactions.

Mike Hunt

Nen abilities don't necessarily have to be pure enhancer or pure emission, they can be a combination of categories, they're just more efficient/stronger if its pure.

Billbob

Huh, didnt remember this as being a critical cliffhanger that needed bundling. 91 isnt the worst to end on really, still is nice since this arc can be really slow though Edit: yeah those episodes were great, we are officially out of the set up for this arc and can fully get into this peakdom. Still will have slow bits which is why I binged 30eps of it during my first watch back in uni but it's great

Kasturi

true! Steph is quite quick in coming up with theories and since they 're not just bingeing the episodes they actually have time to ponder on those theories and connect them.

NaD

I think knuckle's ability is one of the coolest of the show if not the coolest !

kinetic98

King is one of the most scary babies in all of anime

Runhua Tang

Hmmm am I being gaslighted? Others are saying there are still spoilers in the opening, but I honestly don't think there are anything left to spoil in the opening after the King is born. There are a few very vague foreshadowing shots that can be argued as spoilers, but I think it's completely safe for them to watch now.

Holy Arathi

I thought it seemed familiar.

Vincent Lee

It was mentioned earlier that in chimera ant queens usually birth multiple kings and the royal guards loyalty are to their kings and the soldiers remain loyal to the queen

lzz PASSIVE lzz

Has wes watched Hunter x Hunter already? Idk why his guesses are always right...I hope this is no fake reaction as I have been watching you guys for a long time....

Michael H

He has some god-tier predictions, for sure. Like on point predictions that barely make sense with the context clues given. But he also gets a lot wrong and is way too genuinely shocked and excited for this to be fake, in my opinion. Plus his 200 IQ theories always seem to be super niche (I don’t see him predicting the basic plot all that often). The prediction I’m sure you are talking about this batch is pretty insane, though 😂

LucaZ Yang

So, about Netero and your martial art experience, you know what they say: "It's lonely at the top"

Sorted Jovanny
