Sean

this is where the show really starts in my opinion -- and "painful to watch what we already know is going to happen" is a perfect descriptor for the Cyberpunk world.

AttackRunRepeat

I mean they could escape into NUSA if they wanted to but idk if its any better.

I think a way to put it is that this world has taken joy out of sex whilst pushing it as a mindless and addictive product exploited by corporate greed. A moment of pleasure can’t stop how callous and brutal reality is in the morning. (Lore for game stuff) Cyberpunk was originally a pen and paper game published in the late 1980’s. Story wise, In the later half of the twentieth Century, the NSA, CIA, FBI and the DEA launched a coup on the US government. The corporations that made up the military industrial complex and leading tech of the world were left to fill the power vacuum after everything went to shit. This setting does a great job of showing the dregs of society in a technocracy. Cybernetics have just created another arms race and people are creating gangs and in groups to pushback against the insane chaos.

Just keep running... SO GOOD

Didier

Dorio was not killed by Maine, but by a soldier (the shots came from behind her). But it was Maine's fault because he made her a target by making her lose focus.

Adam

Imagine you could buy superpowers, but using them made you feel less human. You need them for your job, to be free, to protect yourself and your loved ones. So you can’t take them off. Even when you start losing it

backseat

i gotta say the songs in this show are so good

The analogy with cyberpsychosis to the use of roids and addiction was a really good catch. Mike Pondsmith, the original source material's creator actually likened cyberpsychosis to roid rage. Here's an except from his Reddit post: "So, in some ways, I tend to treat cyberware as an addiction--heavy anabolic steroid use being my favorite model. Not everyone who juices ends up crazy mad with roid rage. But those who are more susceptible to the need to take more steroids are more likely to hit a point where they do flip into roid rage. "

Didier

The reason why their naked bodies look like corpses to you is because they look pale and discolored in a pale blue that makes you think of death. In porn, the way they make the flesh look appealing to the viewer is by making it look shiny, voluminous and vibrant, as if they emptied a bottle of massage oil over it. But here they're doing the complete opposite.

Zachary Fewins

I like the episodes after this a lot less. For me I’d say this episode is the peak of the show.

KIM KITSURAGI MY BOY

Kindyh Bordat

That's only the first half, trust me... It's getting worse. And it wasn't only info on David, it was all the previous owner of the sandevistan (You can assume), we see the episode 1 cyberpsycho military guy. Seems like they keep tabs on every owners and use them as guinea pigs .

testlunch

Think you mean Dorio, but that is interesting. Always thought he shot her.

Rostislav

I don't know if you noticed, but Dorio died protecting Main when he was hallucinating, so technically, he didn't kill her. It's also interesting that Main clearly saw and distinguished David from enemies in his hallucinations.

Delta Force1031

I don’t know if u guys noticed but the first episode of the new season of Dandadan is out aswell as the first episode of this really fun and wholesome show called “takopis original sin” it’s on Crunchyroll there is only one episode out rn but the little alien is so cute u guys should check it out😁 edit: also “the fragrant flower blooms with dignity” a really good romance manga that just got adapted into an anime came out with episode 1 if you guys want to watch that aswell it’s like the authors spin on Romeo and Juliet

Fun fact: Reigen Arataka from mob psycho is the head of Arataka industries

S

The funny thing is despite how they called Tanaka a snake he was completely honest

Astor Lefflinker

He wasn't completely honest. While all the words that came from his mouth were true, he didn't mention the real reason why he wanted David to go back to the academy. That they plan to basically make him a guinea pig. That's called lying by omission. He was trying to manipulate David.

Chels

Cyberpsycho is such a euphemism for CTSD

Runhua Tang

Fun fact: MaxTac are so feared because they are largely made up of Re-institutionalized cyberpsychos.

Didier

Yeah, my bad. I edited my comment, thank you. If you rewatch the scene, you'll see that Maine aimed at her but missed her when she pushed his gun to her left side. Then someone shot her 3 times from behind. That also explains why Maine's glasses broke, because the bullet that headshot Dorio must have ricochetted on it. Which means he almost died from that bullet too.

Hollow

Yeah, I always thought he killed her but I noticed this while watching now

banlungx001

i always thought it s a condition with 100% death rate.

banlungx001

wait , dorio headshot hole is not from maine gun?

Rostislav

No, if you rewatch the scene, you'll see that his gun is behind her head, and the hole in her head is going out. Also, Maine says, "Is this my fault?" Not that he killed her.

Season 2 was announced just a few hours ago, and I'm telling you guys this to warn you to be careful around social media today and a few days after because the announcement itself may contain big spoilers for season 1. This episode's (ep 6) director will be the main director for season 2 Edit: The official trailer and the captions literally has season 1 spoilers. Please avoid anything to do with the season 2 announcement.

Astor Lefflinker

@banlungx001 It's not. MaxTac seems to have the best way to "cure" it but it's being kept in secret, and it's not a 100% cure. The ones who are "cured" basically just remain like high functioning psychopaths.

Alex Krasutskiy

You guys are so on point with The Corporation comparison to an organism or a monster. Here are some general concepts so you don’t need to be afraid of spoilers - in most popular cyberpunk genre novels there is a concept of human struggle against the “Leviathan” - a vast, all-encompassing entity or system, which symbolises the overwhelming power of corporations, governments, or technology, and the dehumanising effects of unchecked technological advancement and social control. This Leviathan can manifest as a physical structure, a network, or a pervasive ideology, and it often traps individuals in a cycle of dependence, surveillance, and alienation. So yeah, that’s the feeling we get with Arasaka and other corpos in this world.

Chels

The cyberpsychosis actually feels a lot like a CPTSD/PTSD euphemism. The fact it seems to be worsened by trauma and dehumanization, the lapses in time where you feel like you're jumping around, particularly between the past and present, the sudden aggression or agitation. These are pretty close to what it's like to have PTSD. Especially where Maine was being "triggered" by senses of danger and David in his capture when the guy was making him experience psychosis, where it was like David felt like he was making decisions but his body was doing something out of his control, it tends to feel like that. Something triggers you, your body reacts in fight/flight/freeze, then next thing you know, people are acting like you lost your damn mind or you have lapses in memory that make you feel like you lost it. Plus nightmares, insomnia, or feeling like you're stuck in a certain moment in time. I wondered if that was the inspiration behind cyberpsychosis or if this show is an allegory for trauma and stuff (if so, holy Hel, that's depressing, given the outlook on it lol) Gods, imma need therapy after the ending 😅 the eerie music plus the visuals and the bg of screaming.. so poignant.

Tanmay

I got spoiled for the ending when I first watched so I’m gonna vicariously live the ending again with you guys and hopefully it will hit just as hard

Godspeedhero

It's not a euphemism (that's not what that word means btw) or allegory for shit. It's literally a fictional sci-fi type of new PSYCHOSIS. Psychosis is terrifying enough normally, but in the Cyberpunk alternate future, there's a special even more dangerous psychosis.

Godspeedhero

He's joking because Wesley keeps calling Arisaka "Aritaka" for some reason. In roman characters, the difference is super small, but in Japanese, the difference is massive. Completely different kanji.
