Never mind just screwing other people over, 333 playing into the plan to kill as many blues as possible directly risked 222’s life as there would be less targets available for all the other reds still playing. For me that split second scene showed that on top of him being willing to kill so many people for the sake of more money, he chose to take a huge risk and gamble her life for it too. He’s the one who convinced her to swap teams in the first place last episode and since she heard his success announcement, I don’t know how she would be able to move past this - everything else he’s done so far kinda has plausible deniability but this was just so overtly unnecessary and evil +++ it being Hyunju who died as a result is just yikes 😩😩😩 AND NOW A BABY. STRESS.

A Guy

I have to say I don’t agree with the sentiment against James Bond and daehon while I can’t justify their actions. James Bond was in the position He was in at the end of the game because his better nature wouldn’t allow him to kill. He was very desperate and I really don’t know how many people wouldn’t make the decision he ended up making he valued his mother‘s life above his own and anyone else’s. And while cowardly I wouldn’t call daehon despicable things were already getting desperate as is by the time he went on the ammo run and it was a safe bet to assume that he’d be running back to a certain death. It’s easy to forget that most of these people are being pushed to their psychological limits something not even 120 was free of falling under the effects of.

A Guy

Also He voted against leaving once and he was pretty consistent the rest of the game in regards to getting out. I can’t blame the two of you for having a bias since it is a situation involving a potential death of a mother. But he wasn’t a secret, scumbag all along. Ultimately it was a situation where he had to pick whether he would allow himself to die ,kill his mother or kill a girl he has only known for a few days. Choosing your own survival isn’t evil, even if it is an especially innocent person being targeted. It’s kind of a hard pill to swallow to say the morally correct thing to do would be to kill himself.

I actually really like 333. Not because I support everything he does, but I tend to like those type of characters. They make the show interesting. Not all bad, not all good. Just swinging between the two. But he really made me mad with killing Hyunju. I loved her since the start. She was so cool and strong yet so kindhearted. She could have gone longer if it wasnt for her kind heart ( and myunggi)

Alex

I don’t blame 007 for thinking like that because if I was in his situation I’d also try to save myself and my mother over a girl I’ve known for less than a week and a baby I’ve known for less than a minute who’s probs gonna die anyway because how’s a baby gonna survive in there. I believe he was always trying to do good but just got lost in his debt and he clearly loved his mum very much.

Md Sheam Bin Sayhid

Steph - I actually like crypto guy Famous last words 🙂‍↔️

Alexa

I'm with you on being okay if Gihun died in this episode. What he does here it's out of character. Spoilers.... Not because he isn't allowed to kill someone for revenge (although I don't think it's fully Daeho's fault), but because afterwards he keeps the high morals arc when he's in front of the rest of the trashy people 😫

Liv

I didn't get either 333s plans! Even from the beginning when he said he'd find and protect 222 in a game where no one would want to be found by a tagger. If he was able to find her, then realistically, she was super vulnerable to all taggers. She shouldn't wait to be found by anyone!

Mimosa Khaund

is it just me who finds it funny whenever they call 007 James Bond 🤣🤣🤣

Astor Lefflinker

It's hard for me to blame 007 for trying to go after 222 at the final moment. Even then, he was hesitating, and I actually don't believe he was going to do it. But even if he was, I still wouldn't blame him. If I were him, I wouldn't let my mom and myself get killed just because of a girl that I met in the games for a few days. She gave birth, but I don't think that makes her life more valuable than me and my mom now. I don't think she will be protecting my mom after I'm gone. Personally I felt some some anger towards Mrs. Jang for killing her own son. It felt out of character—and I'm not criticizing the writing. It's actually realistic, because real people do things that are out of their character sometimes. I just don't agree that a mom should kill her own son over a girl they only knew for a few days.

Astor Lefflinker

I'm weak at numbers so I don't pay attention to the players' numbers, so I was confused at first when they started calling him James Bond. I thought maybe the actor plays a James Bond kinda role in another Kdrama that they watched, it's only now that I saw that his number is 007 and was like "ohhh that's why" lol

Astor Lefflinker

I agree with you on Gihun, and I also didn't want Daeho to die. Even if he brought them the magazines, I seriously doubt they would've won. Gihun's plan was bad from the start. Also, I haven't confirmed this so take this with a grain of salt. But this is going around in social media. Apparently, there's a minor mistranslation when he said that he didn't serve in the military and never even held a gun. Supposedly the better translation was "I was a social service personnel, I've never even properly shot a gun."—In Korea this service is for those who are mentally and physically unstable for military duty. They're sent to basic military training instead of armed forces. It's a minor thing but if true, it adds to his character.

Brooklyn

As a Korean, I’m glad people shared that online and non-Korean speakers have a better idea. I do see online that some are making that this huge translation issue and that it changes Daehos character completely. It doesn’t. He lied about being in the marines. Whether he did his social civil service or not, it doesn’t change the fact that he lied about the marines, which is not okay. Of course, he still doesn’t deserve to be the target of Gihun’s wrath, Gihun is just broken and needed anything to numb that pain, but I just don’t agree with people using the translation as a reason for somehow making Gihun’s decision to kill him not make sense. Gihun’s issue was with his own demons, not whether Daeho was actually in the military or not. Not directly this at you of course, just my two cents on the people who are taking the translation too far.

Charm3dOn3

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but did you guys now the same actor who plays 120 was Jae-Jun, the colorblind douchebag from The Glory.

Hina

I might be misremembering but at first he insisted they swap and she stab him which I don’t think was ever going to be a proper plan - when all is said and done she does seem to care about the guy. So, he proposed that he come to find her straight after his kill and I suppose just wait it out with her. She doesn’t have to stay put in one place to wait so she’s not exactly a sitting duck but if he did manage to find her, having a red with a weapon to protect you from other reds would definitely help your chances. Geumja, Hyunju and Junhee only teamed up once already in the game so I guess he assumed she would be alone and that would be the best way to go about it.

Angel Chatfield

"bloody handprints" on the exit door was actually just paint xD

sjfyy_

I usually find myself agreeing with you on a lot of points other times, but I found myself disagreeing with many on this episode lmao

sjfyy_

I completely disagree with the 'keeps the high morals arc when he's in front of the rest of the trashy people'. He doesn't do that at all.

Alexa

****SPOILERS**** ***BIG SPOILERS**** I just find it frustrating when Gihun was given the opportunity of killing those people for the final game and he decided not to in honor of what Saebyeok told him in the first season. It was intended to be emotional and I would've loved that scene but what happened with Daeho made the actions too bitter for me. Also, if he killed Daeho because he thought he was guilty for what happened with Jeongbae and the rest of the crew, what is his reason for not killing Inho when he had the opportunity latter? It makes me mad because Gihun is one of the best characters in the series but it feels like his story for this season was written by two different people

Veence Porras

they knew since they watched season 2 the same time with Queen of Tears with the same actor.

CartoonShort

Me too. I especially disagree with a lot of things Stephanie was saying. Like she called number 007 a piece of sh*t for trying to survive. Its either he dies or she dies. Its human survival instinct. There's more but especially that one pissed me off.

Astor Lefflinker

Isn't it a spoiler to give them an idea on how Gihun acts after this episode? And I also disagree that he keeps the high moral arc around the rest of the trashy people. (SPOILERS AHEAD) He returned to his old self because of three things. The speech that Mrs. Jang gave him, the baby, and then finally the flash back of Sae-byeok reminding him what kind of person he really is. Basically like we all witnessed, In-ho broke his character and he went through the stages of grief. After he killed Daeho, he finally reached the acceptance stage and he admitted to himself "it is my fault" before trying to kill himself but the knife was shot away from him. Afterwards, Mrs. Jang's speech to him and the baby gave him a new purpose, allowing him to return to his old self. In-ho then made another attempt to break him before the final game and to make Gihun more like him by giving him the option to murder the other players in their sleep, but he didn't do it. That's not out of character because Mrs. Jang, the baby (new purpose), and Sae-byeok just allowed him to return to his old/real character.

Alexa

okay, I just edited my comment to avoid spoilers. But I still think there are flaws in Gihun's beliefs and the decisions he makes at the end. Ms Jang's words and his commitment with the baby happened in ep 3, but in ep4, Gihun killed the player who was blocking the other players' path. Granted, it was not a cold blood decision, but there were other things he could've done if he wanted to continue his standards and value all human life, but he literally threw that man into a fate that ensured death. If he did that at that moment, to save Junhi, why not do it to save her daughter? Yes, he accepted his fault, but he didn't show remorse for killing Daeho, who did wrong but didn't deserve death.

Astor Lefflinker

I have no issue with him killing the player in episode 4. That other player was literally trying to choke him to death. Regardless of morals, I wouldn't fault him for doing any move at that time to get that person choking him to death off of him. I don't think he's that skilled or strong enough to hold back at that time just to make sure that other player won't die. And again, I don't believe he was acting high and mighty with morals in front of other players. His one goal at that time was to save the baby. At that point, he hasn't fully regained his old character that has the goal of proving to the game masters that people are not horses - he regains that after the Saebyeok flashback. Because before that, he was almost tempted to kill the other players in their sleep even. I think trying to kill himself after killing Daeho and finally admitting that it was his fault was remorse enough. There's almost no more extreme way of showing remorse than killing yourself. After the knife was shot away from him, he was still broken because he's killed Daeho and realized it was all his fault. It was the baby and Mrs. Jang's speech that gave him a new purpose.

sjfyy_

@Astor Lefflinker Thank you for explaining exactly what I thought! In my opinion the other commentator's points don't make any sense.

Yorutia

A bit surprised how harsh you guys are to 007. I wouldn't call him a despicable human. He is just human. And to be clear, I don't think your judgement is "wrong", per se, but I do think it is not a rational one. There is just something that sparks our empathy seeing a young mother holding her baby. But rationally, does it really make killing her any more wrong than killing any other blues? The other blues probably have babies, children and families out there, too. But we would've been fine watching 007 killing any of them, as long as we don't see their families and the consequences.

Chels

I mean, they expressed their dislike strongly but they did say at the end "it's not even a disgusting human, but just the ugly side of humanity" so ya while I don't agree, I don't think they were wrong either. I don't care about how natural it is to try and survive. I would've accepted this line of thinking with Dae-ho, who literally was just trying to do his best and got scared, same with boyo having a bad trip, cuz even tho he was scared, it's not his fault what happened to the girly, but 007 who was essentially a devouring son who before the games was leeching from his parents then going to them for help so much his mother felt inclined to join this game, then voting to stay despite her safety, then not trying to stay with her during the mingling game when he could have pushed off the other dude or grabbed her.. for him to then target a small woman with a baby? HUGE "nice guy" energy. A man who pretends to be a good, filial son and all around "nice guy" but then targets the most vulnerable while excusing their behavior off as "it's her fault, I was just doing the right thing, I'm just trying to get by" and while I don't think that was W&S's way of thinking in the heat of things, I think the specific part they were reaching to strongly was that he saw a small woman holding a baby and saw an easy kill and no matter how desperate you are to survive, if that crossing someone's mind, there's no excuse and I think the people defending this as "natural" need to do some re-evaluating. The reason 120 was shown turning back and dying was to demonstrate how even more morally the others have fallen. Other case in point, he had the sense enough to not kill his willing, old mother who he had essentially killed 3x over by forcing her into a position to join the game, then voting for her to stay in the game. If he had the mental capacity to not sacrifice his mom, then he had plenty mental capacity to not target a woman with a baby, but not the moral capacity to sacrifice himself or die trying to kill someone else. All to say, ya.. it is part of being human, but it's certainly not the "good" "rational" "reasonable" or "excusable" part of being human, it's the grotesque, desperate, sad part of humanity that we as a society should be stamping out. We shouldn't be reacting with anything but sadness or anger and not arguing for people like that. Just because they're pitiful, doesn't mean they aren't culpable, so I think W&S had a very understandable reaction about 007 imo. Strong and heavy handed because they were emotionally reacting to a heavy episode, but still. Of all the "cowardly" characters they hated on, I don't think it's fair to be "pissed off" at them for it, particularly because it wasn't just survival but a targeted decision to hurt someone he could see was more vulnerable than him, something that I think instinctively sets off alarm bells to women as more villainous then men who are more apparently threatening. Men who actually can be threatening don't usually feel the need to target smaller, weaker people, but most of the heinous crimes against women are done by men who feel vulnerable and justified. So hopefully that gives a little food for thought

Chels

Welp.. show, guys. I quit 😭 I'm shattered. 120 didn't deserve this episode.. from a writing perspective I totally get why they killed her the way they did, but damn.. I would've sacrificed every other character for her to live. I agree, 120 totally stole the show. Also, 👏👏👏 bravo to the actor, omg. He did that role so well. Especially given he's mainly played villainous types, is a big dude, and was under the threat of prejudice and/or naysayers who think straight people shouldn't play LGBT characters. I actually forgot that he wasn't a woman and also forgot he's the same dude from the Glory and Queen of Tears for 15 mins of this episode 😂 Also, while definitely some strong, emotional reactions, I definitely think 007 deserves the hate. I definitely loathe 333 now, IDGAF if it was for his not-gf and kid, but I kinda think scaredy boyo doesn't deserve so much hate. He's done nothing but be a scared puppy this whole game and not a parasitic coward like 007 (counting from before the games as well, with the info we were given on his backstory) 007 was a typical "nice guy" type and I think this ep was just sad and human all around, the good, bad, and ugly

carocatowr

I really liked 007, for me he was the most human one, he was just trying to survive he was not thinking about killing her until the pure desire of keep on living came and I honestly believe that desire came from seeing his mom and I actually really disliked his mom in this episode, I cannot imagine myself killing my child, a baby that came out of me in any situation no matter how horrible he behaves no matter what he did he’s my child and I swore to protect him, and she betrayed that for a girl she meet a couple of days before, that’s insane to me, I really disagree with you on this one

Astor Lefflinker

I agree. We try to understand fictional characters like 007, so let's try to understand real people like Wes & Steph too. While I don't agree with the things they said about 007, I also understand that it's normal human instincts to be more protective of a woman carrying her child. As show watchers, I think the audience also have had more time to get attached to 222 as well, compared to 007, and Mrs. Jang is a very likable character so it's kinda understandable to agree with her decisions even though it's not rational.

Astor Lefflinker

I also think it's sad that a lot of people only remember him as a coward. But bravery shows up in other ways. I think it was really brave of him to switch teams with his mom. He knows his disposition that he's really afraid to hurt, much less kill, another person, but he chose to switch teams with his mom in order to increase her chances of surviving, because there's no way in hell that old lady could have caught up to anyone and kill someone with a knife. Chances are, her knife would be easily knocked off from her or stolen by a blue team member. By switching teams with her, 007 basically saved his mom's life. And that was really brave, considering that he's scared or hurting anyone. I honestly couldn't look at Mrs. Jang the same after this episode. I felt really weirded out by her.

Jo

a native korean speaker translated what daeho actuallysaid to Gi-hun. the subtitles said “i wasn’t even in the military.” he actually said “i was a social service personnel.” which is an alternate form of korean military service for people who are physically or mentally unstable for actual military. so, he was in the military, but he wasn’t a marine.

Jo

Dae-ho grew up w/ four elder sisters and spent most of his time playing games with them, leading to him being an expert in things considered ”girly” by societal standards. Sometime later, Dae-ho gets a Marine tattoo despite never being one. Dae-ho's father was abusive, as he mentions that his father disapproved of his interests that his four sisters instilled in him. Furthermore, when Dae-ho is suffering a trauma episode and fearfully hides in the dorms, Hyun-ju approaches him to retrieve the magazines he was sent for, but he reflexively flinches when Hyun-ju simply raises her hand, apparently anticipating her to hit him, which may imply childhood abuse he suffered from his father that still affects him decades later. That means his father would torture him more than we already thought. Why would anyone hate daeho?

Kindyh Bordat

Here again i disagree with Steph, she thinks too emotionally, 007 did the most logical thing in his position. It was that or offing himself and it's against our human nature.

RCG

I really thought the shaman woman would survive and clash later on with 100, since he took the circle key - which was originally hers. Just moments before, we saw a dead person right by the exit door with a copy of her key, so I figured she’d just grab that one and get out. But I guess I was wrong. ^^ I kinda liked 333. He wasn’t really a bad guy before - just didn’t care much about others and probably made some naive or poor decisions. But after his killing spree with Thanos Junior, he’s beyond salvaging, in my opinion - especially after he killed 120. Fuck that guy.

Jul

Because he decided to fight, no one forced him to fight against the squid game soldiers, but he wanted to be a tough guy to maintain his fake marine reputation which cost a lot of players lives if he retrieved the ammo there was a chance they could win even if it’s not guaranteed.

Atlas Creation

Most logical thing? Let’s not lie. The most logical thing would have been to kill the guy he found first,

Atlas Creation

That “pissed you off”? She’s not wrong, he is pretty despicable. He targets a woman who recently gave birth even though his mother does not want him to. He found another man earlier in the game but did not kill him, he would rather target the weak.In that moment, he acted like his father, and any other abuser who wouldn’t prey on women and children

Kindyh Bordat

I was saying logical in the last moments when there where no other choices.

Varonika Singer

The plan Gihun had was Gihuns plan from the beginning. Daeho wanted to join up with them, Daeho offered to get the magazines. That was on Daeho. No it wasn't completely Daehos fault, but everyone depended on him. Gihuns not the only one that did wrong. I will always stand by my statement. He projected his anger on Daeho and he had to kill someone to pass. So it made it easy to go for him.

Nina

I thought for sure she would die in childbirth. Tbh that would have been so dark and horrible, but powerful as a social commentary showing the dangers of regular life things like childbirth. I had hoped theyd let 120 then protect and raise her baby and im really sad it didnt go that way because 120 was my favorite character. I thought she would come back and theyd both be killed with the baby left alone, i thought the mom may die defending her and the baby, and that she still may have died anyway. I had this scene imagined that 007 would find her alone with the baby and his mom dead, i think he would have not hesitated to kill her then, bc his mom was his moral compass and he would have blamed her, and she would have been an easy kill after giving birth. I thought that 120 would come back to a horrible scene and have to deal with the guilt of it and protect the baby, or i thought shed come back and find that the mother had died in childbirth. 😭 i did not at all expect 120 to die this way, but i guess it was sickeningly fitting in a way, how even the hero can die unexpectedly and so meaninglessly and quickly, stabbed in the back like that, nothing is fair here., even in the end she wouldnt leave them behind, even to fight for herself and take sure safety when they told her directly she was held back by them and could go, she didnt want to leave them vulnerable. She was courageous and loving and learned from her mistakes in the begginning. it is so sad she wasnt the one to live through it, i really think that would have been amazing. I thought that cypto guy was going to find his ex love and kill her tbh. I didnt trust him and thought maybe he would want a chance to escape fatherhood or responsibility to her, i was afraid him telling her she could kill him was a manipulation and he would flip her knife on her or trick her. I also thought 007 would kill his mom, so he wouldnt be held accountable, held back, or have to feel as guilty after the game. I cant believe i was actually even more cynical than the show! I do think that one interesting aspect of the game that might start coming up is that as players do more and more horrible things to live, and fewer and fewer remain, in the end there may be a temptation to stay until there are no/less "witnesses" alive in the real world to know your shame and how you got the money. Especially for powerful people like 100. When there is one winner, there arent as many other people out in the world who know your trauma and what you did to survive and get that wealth, so not only do you not split the money as many ways if most or all are dead, but no one can blackmail you or guilt you back in the real world, and you can just pretend it never happened and compartmentalize easier. I bet some as it keeps going are going to realize that. They may start to feel that dying or risking death to eliminate witnesses or enemies is better than having the memory of this over your head, kept by someone else. They may want to keep playing to actually kill some people still in who they see as either too evil or too dangerous to be out in the real world with them, they may be afraid to be blackmailed or continuously reminded of the things that have happened there, or feel so guilty that they crash out in paranoia to kill people they feel know too much or look at them in a judgmental way. I can totally see crypto guy snapping like that. more than just money might make some people want to stay at this point, especially as they play games that are so directly murdurous. I dont think the mom fully thought through or meant to kill her son, maybe the mom just couldnt watch her son kill a young mother and reacted. She may not have even thought her actions all the way through because she probably had a trauma response or flashback, remembering being terrorized herself by her husband. Or those memories mixed with the choice she saw her son making in that moment, and knowing she couldnt defend it or watch it happen. It really is so sad, but i feel nothing for him. He never took accountability that wasnt pressured or mothered out of him, and actually stood for anything. He may have been weak and unable to kill the cowering man, but i believe it was also partly because he empathized specifically with that man and saw himself in him, he couldnt extend that to a weak woman. He knew the entire game he needed to kill and had other chances, and yet he left the pressure and guilt on his mom, he didnt do what he needed to do and knew he needed to do from the begginning when he had her switch. I know she wasnt strong but i actually do believe she would have killed. maybe she would have finished the kill of someone injured, or ended up killing in self defense, it would have been traumatizing and she would have had to hide and be careful, but she has the cunning and mental strength to probably have either found a way to do it as morally as she could or to have made the choice to accept death. it is understandable that he was afraid and understandable that he was desperate, but i truly believe only the most dead awful inside would kill a young mother holding a baby, in front of your own begging mother. it may be harsh and horrible, but i truly believe anyone with morals or goodness in them just wouldnt be able to, theyd rather die than live with the memory of having even seriously considered that, stranger or not. That got long! Love watching things with yall!

Mason Greenwood

Low-key I think 007 had one of the saddest deaths in squid game

kookmineve

the actor who played 120 said he filmed both this death and the death of his character in queen of tears on the same day!

kookmineve

you NEED to watch hotel del luna to see a different side of 125!

Squid games is one of those shows where you want the mc to die
