Eyyyy i was waiting for this!!!

Hanan

rujinu ❤️ yeah jinu had to die, he facilitated the deaths of too many people for him to get off Scot free on the human side of the honmoon. I still believe that because he's in her sword (?) there's potential for him to get revived in a possible sequel! and then I want them together lol

angel ˚ ༘ ♡•˚

what’s crazy is that this movie was supposed to be 3 hours long but netflix made them shorten it

Lela

I literally thought today that you would enjoy this ahahaha

Lela

I read that multiple idols and groups inspired the two groups in the movie. But some definite bts influences I read about were Soda Pop being inspired by Dynamite and Baby Saja's cuteness was largely inspired by Jimin haha. If anyone knows more bts references feel free to drop then in response to this 😊

KK

Omg yayyy

Millie b

If you ARE curious The creators confirmed the saja boys were inspired by groups like Stray Kids, BTS, TXT, ATEEZ, BIGBANG and MONSTA X !! Twice is the girl group who did the song at the end!! From what i saw they specifically mentioned yeonjun of txt as one of the people who inspired the pink haired ‘Romance’ saja boy, Stray Kids’ Hyunjin’s artist of the month performance inspired some of the choreography for the ‘your idol’ song, blackpink, twice and itzy were big inspirations for the huntrix girls!

angel ˚ ༘ ♡•˚

oh another fun fact! the actor who voices jinu plays the main lead guy in business proposal! they added the ost from business proposal and they played it when jinu bumped into rumi and the tonics fell out!

Lela

The way Wes screamed incest so happily made me chortle 😂😂😂

Honey 0613

woo!! I have already watched it twice and I'm so hyped you guys are reacting to it with us!! I am commenting before even watching lol. I am an Army and you need to know that the creators tuned in to Bts' online concert during covid and we're deeply inspired by Bts and Dynamite in particular, seeing it as a song that brought hope and joy during a dark time. Jinu's seems to be inspired by Jungkook, specifically the jeans, pink shirts white collared shirt, which is worn by JK in Boy With Luv mv. It's a fun movie and a wonderful to get people they need to love themselves not "fix" themselves.

MinnieMars

I did see a lot of people being disappointed by the ending but like you two, I agree that was the only redeemable/rational act he could do. Just because you suddenly feel guilty, it doesn’t automatically absolve all of the bad things you've done. And yes, it is a reference to Business Proposal in the scene where Rumi saw Jinu for the first time cause his VA was in that drama 😂 Overall, I didn't expect to enjoy the movie so much but it was truly well made!!! FYI, the Twice members only sang a version of Takedown, the other songs were sung by different people.

Z3D3LKAY REACTS

Twice has 9 members but 3 of them are in this because they have a version of takedown on the soundtrack. They are not the singing voices for Huntrix in the movie though! Also I thought you might find this interesting but Gwi-ma is voiced by front man (In-ho) in squid games! 💜 so fun to watch this with you guys!

Zana

Let's gooo the music is amazing and I love it

Sulam0n

I think the song with them bumping into each other is from Business Proposal😂 Also the voice actor of Jinu is the male lead in Business Proposal

AnnaAfc

OMG I wasnt expecting this guys. Love it

AnnaAfc

I would be totally vibing if you ever react to twice. The y are so talented, so funny and amazing. You would love them

This movie is filled with a lot of subtle historical Korean references (unsurprisingly), but one of the most popular ones is the tiger and the magpie (the bird) Korea's national animal/symbol is the tiger (in art throughout the centuries, Korea is represented as a tiger), and in the 1600s, commoners used to paint tigers like that with snarling teeth and derpy eyes to represent the upper class. Those tigers would always be accompanied by a magpie sitting in the branches above the tiger, and stealing its hat. That specific hat (in the movie and in this ancient art) is called a "Gat," and it was only worn by nobility, upper-classmen, and scholars--a symbol of power in society. So, the mapie stealing the derpy tiger's hat was a bit of a political allegory by the commoners of SK to symbolize that power belonged to the common people, not the nobility/upper class. The fact that this creative team took that and turned it into an adorable joke that so many (most notably, foreigners) fell in love with the characters was such an interesting, and flawlessly executed, decision Edit: Should also point out that the Saja Boys were wearing Gats with their Hankboks in their final performance/scenes (just so you know what they look like on people lol)

Ahjusshi_Brown

Who created this? Sony Animations (same studio that created the Spiderverse movies, they're definitely on a run) Did we just launch an IP? Yeah, as far as I know this was an original work by the 2 writers/directors, and it definitely seems like sequels will be happening Who was singing? They got a lot of solo Asian artists/songwriters to voice all the characters, BUT 3 of the 9 members of the kpop group TWICE also did a version of "Takedown" (all these songs are on Spotify in the Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack album, and the credits have the singers names--some are soloists, some are very popular songwriters for kpop groups, and some are even former idols)

Ahjusshi_Brown

Sooooo many people are sad that Jinu and Rumi didn't end up together haha. I never had an issue with how they handled Jinu's character arc or their relationship arc, but once I got on socials, I realized that I was in the minority lol. For those who wanted Rujinu to be endgame, at least there's hopes of sequels. Maybe they'll bring him back in some way, since it seemed that his soul went into Rumi's sword

Ahjusshi_Brown

If I remember correctly: Rumi's singing was voiced by EJAE (has written countless kpop hits) Mira's singing was voiced by AUDREY NUNA Zoey's singing was voiced by REI AMI I don't really remember all the voices of the guys since they're a little lesser known as soloists, but I know a former Idol (Kevion Woo, formerly of kpop group U-KISS) did the singing for one of the Saja Boys. The voice actor for Jinu was Ahn Hyo-seop, an actor (you saw him in Business Proposal) and also a former idol trainee--although he didn't sing any of the songs

Rianne -

I feel like Gwi-ma magnifies guilt and shame as form of control. In Jinu's past vision, we see that him taking his family inside the palace but wasn't allowed in. If he never considered selling his soul for the sake of prosperity would eventually lead him and his family to a better life, why would he even take them to the palace in the flashback? But he became complacent and did not want to get back out there so in his head, it's the same as leaving them. And it ate his conscience up. Gwi-ma is like depression. When you're under, you don't get to see the good or the intention, just snowball with enough shame, you start to notice that even the things you say are the worst about yourself even if that is not the whole story. Which is why I chose to see Jinu's past and shame based on the visual story telling, not just what he said. The ending is still valid tho. If he returns (for a sequel) I hope the self sacrifice was just the beginning. He needs an entire arc

may⁷

rumi in golden is giving jungkook in euphoria lmao

DanielleM

It might be my weakness for damaged characters, but I loved Jinu. He gave me Ko Moon-Young vibes from It’s Okay Not To Be Okay. I really disliked Celine tho! Anyway my roommates and I watched this a weekish ago and absolutely loved it! I hope they made more stories/sequels of this, when we watched it I didn’t realize it was a movie so I was already thinking of how I’d come home the next day and wait to watch more with my friends! Sadly it was not a series, I’ll be honest I was a little heartbroken lol

may⁷

and those soda pop outfits looks like it's straight out of boy with luv/ dynamite. Jinu is reminding me so much of Jungkook in boy with luv with that white and pink outfit. Baby saja is also reminding me of Yoongi with blue hair even tho I heard he is inspired by Jimin

Wonka

Awesome movie! I’ve been listening to the soundtrack… XD

Angel Chatfield

Jinu was inspired by Cha Eunwoo from Astro.

Tabii🪷

pretty sure they ended up saying that they were inspired by multiple idols bc everyone was saying he looks like who and who, same for the girls. but i think baby saja was the one who was mostly inspired by jimin but im not sure.

Tabii🪷

27:05 the jinu’s VA is actually the ml from business proposal (aha hyo seop ) and this is actual the ost from the drama

may⁷

Yes and also a lot of other kdrama actors. I dont think the characters have one single inspiration, but a mix of a lot of different once like tabii is saying.

juno

Yes! Would love to see them expand and explore more kpop groups for sure

Min

i know you guys like anime/animation so just want to tell uguys that there's actually a virtual idol group (using motion capture tech) named plave and they're fairly successful in korea! honestly eventhough they're a 5th gen group, their songs are so 3rd gen coded that brings nostalgia everytime i listen to them

Lida

Watched that movie myself yesterday. It's simple but so fun! Loved LOVED that reaction Really enjoy your reactions in particular because of how deeply you analyze the plot and characters🤍 Asking for (probably) last time since my yearly subscription is about to end, but please maybe you'd consider checking out ARCANE It's been 6 months since I watched it and I still find it amazing, so many themes, conflicts and topics to talk about. Very complex story and yet fun and entertaining. Also the music! Huge recommendation. I bet you'd like it, thank you

Mimosa Khaund

this is powerpuff girls vs rowdy rough boys musical version 😄😄😄😄 Also i know its weird but it looks like the Takedown is a song from Jeongyeon to Jimin 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 i wanna know the tea between them Also I agree with Wes, loved the way they showed the friendship between the three girls.

Emily Nolasco

The song from when Rumi and Jinu meet is from business proposal! Also the male lead from the drama is the voice actor for Jinu

j

I really loved this movie, i'm so glad you guys did too! I have to say, I don't think it was ever Jinu's idea or intention to leave his family. He sold his soul in hopes to finally provide for his family (god knows what he was promised exactly), only to be taken into the palace and be separated from his mother and sister at its gates. The guilt and shame he felt while sleeping in those silk sheets with his stomach full gave Gwi-ma power over him. He started whispering in Jinu's ear and making him spiral deeper, manipulating him and torturing him for 400 years. I don't think it justifies the fact that he enabled this whole killing spree, and I do think the self sacrifice was necessary in the end, but you know... I think 400 years of agony and manipulation explains why he is the way he is and why he did what he did. I can also see why Rumi empathized with him as much as she did. She literally grew up in fear and shame of who she is and Jinu was the first person who saw her whole and didn't tell her to hide. The bond made a lot of sense. I think there's a lotttttt of potential for a sequel, fingers crossed Netflix greenlights it! Thank you for your great reaction guys!

j

Oh and also!! A little easter egg with the Saja Boys' name: Saja (사자) means lion, with the obvious nod to their power, but it's also a shortened version of "jeoseung-saja" (저승사자), which are like the Korean folklore equivalents of grim reapers that guide souls to the afterlife.

Laura McNichol

I hope after this you get into twice my armyonce heart would explode

Sheikh Umarul Afiq

I like you guys' breakdown of your thoughts about the whole redeemable thing for Jinu, and what if Celine did was right or wrong. Even the whole shipping thing of Jinu and Rumi. So far, you guys have different opinions than other reactors (at least those that I watched) who ship them immediately as you see the whole thing differently through morality. At least you guys think Jinu is redeemable in the end. Now I'm questioning it😅 Also, didn't think I would actually love this movie, only into kpop very recently. Maybe if there is a sequel and somehow Jinu lives, they could make it where Jinu wants to be more redeemable by trying to give the souls back to whom they were stolen from, and bring back those that went missing (killed i guess). By then you guys can finally ship Rujinu wholeheartedly 😂

Chideraa Udegbulem

Twice is a nine member girl group and you should totally check them out after this. The members in this were Jihyo Jeongyeon and Chaeyoung

Meruka Hinaru

This is a week later, but I loved your reaction, so I wanted to leave a comment here anymway! Here are some of my thoughts on Jinu, is gonna be a bit long, but I hope people read it as well! I love Jinu because he is a character that got affected by a lot of external forces. Just to tell some of my personal opinions in why even tho I don't excuse his actions, I also understand why a lot of things happen the way they did and why I see redeemable qualities since early on: Jinu lived in the Joseon era, where the King is practically like a god. So if you put Jinu's situation in a historically accurate setting, you can infer (by both flashback versions we see) that after Jinu accepted the deal with Gwima to have a better life, became a talented musician and then gotten noticed by the King, Jinu arrived at the palace's gate WITH his family (So this confirms at least for me, that he did it to have a better life with his family, not for himself), but the guards stopped his family from entering. So, as a peasant, he had only 2 options really, one: Refuse the King's request to enter the palace alone (which historically, refusing the king's order as a peasant will actually get you killed and probably would have gotten his family killed as well) or two: Accept the King's request and enter the palace by himself (even if it meant leaving his family behind but alive) So my interpretation is that he decided to enter the palace alone to protect his family (You can actually see his shocked face looking back at his family as the palace gates close, so I think he didn't know his family wasn't also invited in in the first place) Also, once you enter the palace, even if he was praise by the king, if the king wanted him to stay around, he wouldn't have had the liberty to go out of the palace on his own will. So now imagine Jinu lived all those years at the palace without knowing if his family was still alive AND also now Gwima guilt tripping him into thinking that leaving his family behind was entirely his fault (remember Jinu says he always hears Gwima in his ear) when in reality I think Jinu was victim of the times, and a lot of the decisions he made were done out of a very limited pool of options in which powerful people ruled over and practically ruined his life. Then imagine being manipulated into thinking for 400 years straight with hourly reminders in your mind that you are the reason why your family was destroyed, of course Jinu was gonna think that he was hopeless, not worth living for and thus why he wanted the memories of when he was alive (the only thing that kept his soul still human) erased and gone. Jinu is really a tormented soul, and when you live with hopelessness for so many years (and knowing that that's gonna be your existence for the rest of eternity) I understand why souls like Jinu just give up, and then many turn into full demons without humanity. So because of this Jinu specifically was being manipulated by Gwima to gather souls, if Jinu brought souls to Gwima, the memories that tormented him were promised to be gone and his suffering would be gone too (tho we all know Gwima is the source of suffering to Jinu, and he is the demon king and would not let Jinu free whatsoever, he was just manipulating him and would continue to do so for eternity) Now, we technically don't see Jinu taking anyones soul BUT he did plan out everything to grab the souls, and even tho this is a product of manipulation, he still did the deed, so he is hold accountable for that. That's why I think that Jinu giving his soul to Rumi is the perfect redemption, because that's a toll he had to pay for all the souls that were stolen, but also is setting him free from Gwima. So, this is why I was on board with the ship, even knowing Jinu's backstory, cause he is a complex character with a complex story that did had redeemable qualities in my eyes. RUJINU FOREVER! (I promise I'm not biased hahaha) Thank you to the people who took their time to read all this!

Cat Huang

my friend asked me to watch this wit her and i hadn't seen anything abt this movie or concept beforehand. LMAO i've , now been replaying take it down on repeat for the past week

Cat Huang

I THOUGHT THIS EXACT THING HAHAH

Cat Huang

if you guys like this animation, i'd recommend Into the Spiderverse! :) the art and animation style is PEAK

Ethereal

That's a nice trivia! He did show good English in the drama itself.

Ethereal

Music anime is such an untapped potential in my opinion. The Macross franchise is known for it but there aren't many.

Taithos

This movie is so good. I have seen it way more times than i would like to admit. Also fun fact they have already confirmed there will be a sequel releasing in 2028.

Gelondil

Do you have a source for this confirmation?

Staze Reacts

I just noticed that in the end credits cartoons the girls and human Jinyu all have idol eyes like Ai

Cat Huang

you guys should watch arcane if you havent already! (i keep coming back to this reaction)

Darthpenguin

Well, consider that Jinu was vulnerable, which is exactly why Qwi-Ma targets him with his offer, after breaking him down and targeting his insecurities. I'm sure there's a grooming analogy to be made there with not much effort. I'd also argue that manipulating him into a Faustian bargain and then punishing him for 400 years for it isn't exactly him getting off free and dandy. Would I do or allow evil to be done to escape eternal torment after 400 years of it? Dunno, probably.

Indivian Shieldborn

I really appreciate your thoughts on this and am happy you brought in the historical context I don't think many people understand. You can even see the reluctant acceptance on his mother's face, since she realized once the guards stopped them there was nothing more that could be done against a power like the Emperor of Korea in that time period. I find it a bit heartbreaking that she likely hoped at least one of her children would live a good life, but his guilt and Gwi-ma seemed to bring his life to a swift end and left him tormented for centuries. I personally hope that with his soul now entrusted to Rumi she finds a way to help restore him now that he has done his best to turn into the person he wants to be instead of simply letting his past define him, but who knows what the writers have planned for it.

Alkampus

I ended up watching this on a whim and all the songs have been stuck in my head lol.

rikenad

I just watched this movie for the first time last week! So many culturally deep and progressive messages. It had a surprisingly powerful impact on me 🥲💕🙏🏼 Grateful that you two reacted to this movie!

KayGee

Sequel confirmed to release in 2029

KayGee

There are possibilities to bring Jinu back in the sequel, probably not in a physical form, but maybe like a spirit guiding/helping Rumi. We'll have to see when the sequel comes
