The boat Eun Myeong got on was a deep sea fishing boat which is INCREDIBLY dangerous. It is not the same thing Gwan Sik did. Deep sea fishing boats STAY in the ocean for months without returning to land and the working conditions are incredibly harsh. Usually the company that owns the boat offers high wages because it is so difficult but this is also incredibly predatory behavior to try to get people on the boat. Most of the time the workers have to use their own wages to pay for necessities they run out out while out at sea. The company sells them items, such as toothpaste, at a high mark up . The work itself is typically done for LONG hours at night- usually breaking most labor codes- and is physically taxing. Many people die or loose limbs. This is nothing to say of the mental strain of being stuck on a boat without familia connection for months on end. If you want to leave the boat you typically can't until the boat planned to return to land but then you would have to use the wages you did earn to pay for all your meals since you are no longer fulfilling the contract to work. When Eun-Myeong said "but you did it" to Gwan Sik I believe he was just referring to going out to sea. Even when they were struggling financially Gwan Sik never went on a deep sea fishing boat which should tell you how insane they can be.

I think there's one thing you need to know to understand the situations! In Korea, getting on a deep-sea fishing boat means it's a very serious situation. It actually happens that people are being sold to deep-sea fishing boats. And there is saying, "If you live like that, you're gonna get sold to a deep-sea fishing boat." That's how much it drives you to death. So it wasn't just that Gwan-sik and Ae-sun stopped Eun-myeong from doing anything "dangerous," it was really about protecting him from "death". And people say to Eun-myeong, "Be good to your father," not because his father doesn't trust him when he is doing something. It's a process where he realizes that his father really cared for him actually. Maybe because of language and cultural differences, the meaning of this was perceived a little differently. I hope this helps you guys enjoy this show more smoothly! Every time I watch this episode, I can't hold back my tears 🥲

This episode is the one that hits hardest for me. I really relate to Eun-myeong so much. Many criticize his behaviour and stuff, but things like this really leaves a grudge in your heart. Ever since he was a kid he was receving less then geum-myeong. Less praise, less celebration, less affection. Instead of trying to understand why eun-myeong acted this way, they just hoarded him with harsh words which made his grudge even bigger and "confirmed" his beliefs. It's hard to raise children and it's hard to always treat them exactly the same, but I must say that the favortism here is too clear. It is not easy to just grow past it and be the mature one especially when the favortism continues into adulthood.

i cried so much during this episode. It was jsut so hard, bc i could understand the younger son but at the same time it irritated me cause he is a father now so he needs to grow up. Life is unfair, but we just need to face it but i get it
