I think Wes' zombie comparison with the Black Sheep is jarringly accurate to some degree, even with spoiler... save for one "ability" the Legion has that would be absolutely horrifying if normal zombie have. IIRC, in regards to the copulation between the Eighty-Six, well, any kind of romance is severely punishable by the Republic. In the novel, even parents and couples are separated and sent to different battlefields... not to mention our main casts are teenagers between 15-18 y.o. Their boots are already on the ground for almost five years, so throughout their adolescent, the battlefield is all they've ever known, hence the furthest they ever go is mere "puppy love". Though that doesn't mean they're oblivious of it, as evident by the boys jesting with each other and the girls' love talk. Oh yeah, regarding Wes' "there's no point" opinion, interestingly enough the next episode would shed a light on it, along with some crucial info and revelations... a bleak one of course.

Another little bit of trivia: the blue butterflies that appear all the time with the legion are called "Eintagsfliege", and they are responsible for jamming communications between nations. Also while the main characters juggernauts are all uniform and have the same capabilities outside of pilot expertise, the legions units are made up of various types from scouts to heavy tanks and everything in between, which is what makes them even more terrifying.
