The bathing thing is a cultural thing btw

Tanmay

lol love your guy’s theories but this show ain’t that dark

Emir

you look so confused in your reaction to Horimiya ?

Calt Being

I mean... bathing with your girlfriend's father isn't normal, it's cultural. A Japanese person would probably be okay with it, but you can't expect that from those with no understanding of their culture.

I wonder what would be to scary for you guys. Something like Supernatural? Could the anime Ghost Hunt be also to much? Not that I recommend it, if it's to much for you, just interested where the limit could be. :)

Another favorite aspect of mine: Miyamura and Sawada's relationship. No, they're not related. But they become so much like siblings and it's awesome.

NL

hahaha its not that deep with sawada guys. and yes the bathing thing is a cultural thing that welcomes miyamura into the family in the dads eyes. Also, when the dad asked miyamura why he liked hori, he smiled at his answer and fell asleep meaning he was at peace with it.

Additional note on the bathing thing. One of the reasons behind this custom is that fresh water is not abundant in the Japan. So, the tub is filled once, the family members wash off with shower or bucket bath and then get in to soak. If the tub does not have heating it turns into a rush to get bathed before the water cools. So, if space allows, multiple members may bath together.

Communal bathing is actually super important in many cultures, all over Asia, the Norse/Vikings, Romans, Greeks, certain native tribes, ect. It's like a deep show of trust because you are exposing yourself and giving your back to someone in your most vulnerable state (this stems of it being a safety move, by nit bathing along, they have people to protect each other) but also, it's a bonding thing, to wash someone's back for them. Like monkeys and birds preening each other, it's an act of service love language thing to take care of someone and wash their hair. Hugely important for men if they don't have an experience of their father taking them to the onsen or public back house and washing each other's backs. For eg. My friend actually cried, telling me about how his father only ever took him once, and it was such a fond memory. He gave him a banana milk after the bath and now my friend religiously goes to the public bath house and drinks banana milk afterwards. There's also mixed baths (which are mostly elderly with children from what I hear) and so for a man to invite his daughters bf to the bath, that is him saying "I want to be like a father to you, let's bond. Welcome to the family" also to correct another comment, it's not that fresh water isn't abundant, rather city water is VERY expensive because there are laws about how much water each household can use to be eco friendly. But ya, baths are for soaking. You wash outside of it, then soak, and men go before women but the baths stay warmed so the water doesn't cool. It's pretty nice actually. 😊 my fondest memory from my trip to visit family in Yokohama was taking a bath. Their ofuro is set up by a massive floor to ceiling window that overlooks a forested mountain they live on, and you can see the ocean and mountains in the distance. Totally peaceful 🥹 oh and ofuros tend to be huge, very deep. Not always long as out baths, but they come up to your neck, which is another good reason why children bath with their parents

😂 oof.. I personally really love horror and true crime so my heartu is wounded~ 😭 lol jk but ya, my ex was super sensitive to horror, so I would either just watch it on my own, or he would read or watch anime with earbuds in while sitting with me, and the same thing if he was watching something I was uninterested in, I'd do some art while sitting in the room 😊 I think that's one of those accommodations you just have to make with dating/marriage. My more recent ex, who I'd been with for 10 years, we actually didn’t have much in common, but we'd do things for each other and were perfectly ok just being in the same room but in different worlds, wearing our own earbuds and doing whatever 😂 maybe I'm biased but that's something I think is charming and romantic in an odd way, when in shows and books the characters have a dynamic like that 🥰 quality time must be one of my love languages lol

Mario

the dad is very much just comedic relief. (well.. the whole story is a comedy) He just has a job that has him traveling and away from home often.

Giuliano Venturo Gonzales

oh yeah guys, just to check I think you need to watch the op for the next episode. Or watch the op from ep 6 so you can remember how the original op goes and then watch the op for ep 7

Bathing together in Japan is very normal. They don’t care about your genitals yall. They bathe with strangers fully naked in onsen and sento. Taking a bath together also signifies closeness. Remember in Kaiju when they all bathed together and they were asking Kafka about Mina? Yeah, it’s like that. It’s a form of bonding. It’s jarring at first but it’s not a big deal once you’ve tried it. I do it with my cousin and niece too. I’m not Japanese but my cousin is half. And when she brought me to a public bathhouse… it was weird at first but ehh, you eventually get over it because they just don’t care.

vivaan

no but the lower eyelashes too!! i never realised just how similar they look its crazy

Are we really not going to get any reactions to anime horror? 🥲 As a child, I watched only horror movies, but after I turned 20, I started watching other genres too. I think that anime or movies should evoke some kind of emotional response, and the stronger the response, the better the movie/anime. Fear is one of the strongest human emotions, so even a bad horror movie can appeal to people, which is why many horror movies have very low budgets. Try watching something like "Paranormal Activity"; you might like it.

Lynn

Two similar looking people in an anime exist. Wes and Steph: "They HAVE TO be closely related!" Cracks me up everytime :D

RCG

Not that his new hairstyle looks bad, but I’m with Shindo - I liked his longer hair more. It’s really hard for me to watch horror/scary movies, especially if I’m trying to do it alone, but I’d like to be able to watch more of them if they’re actually interesting and aren’t just trying to be scary for the sake of being scary.

Zombuddie

Y'all are overthinking this anime WAY too much. Horimiya is just a very light-hearted straight forward slice of life. Nothing else is secretley going on lol.

Johan Gustafsson

We do that in Europe as well, at least in northern Europe. No biggie. However, I don't think it's common in Japan (or here) for a kid who is nearly an adult and another man to share a bath in the home, especially if they aren't even related to each other. That was just meant to be funny, I think.
