Souffle

A brief apolitical guide to British politics (hopefully); Labour is the centre-left party, so much more palatable and acceptable for Tommy to run as than a far-left communist party. British politics today is ostensibly multi-party, but for the last 100 years or so only Labour and Conservatives (colloquially known as the Tories) have actually gotten enough seats in Parliament to form governments, so its de-facto a two party system (that very well could change in the next election though, as both have done great damage to their reputations and polls show the majority of the country moving to other parties) As it stands there are currently 5 main parties; the polar-left Green Party, the centre-left Labour Party, the centrist Liberal Democrat Party, the centre-right Conservative Party, and the polar-right Reform Party; there are also regional Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish parties that win seats in their regions, but don't have much sway on a national scale

I think there's no shame in not knowing too much about specific UK party politics if you're not from the UK. The US is different as their policies have direct effects on the rest of the world, as we are seeing with the tariff stuff and the two current wars, so we tend to have opinions on that. Worth noting that the Labour Party back then were more 'left' than they are now - for example after WWII they established the NHS and welfare state and nationalised many industries. Their left wing essentially lost and got kicked out in the 80s though (Corbyn was a brief blip where they tried to lean back to some of that) and now they are a pretty standard centre left in terms of policy.

Isnt it funny how we are didnt want Arthur to die, considering all the killings and extra things as well. I think it’s crazy how if you follow someone’s story long enough you just start to root for them

I was wondering why they would send Michael to New York where presumably Changretta's mafia family was operating from, but it kinda makes sense now

Alfie was a tricky bastard right until the end, will miss him in future seasons, not sure if his cancer diagnosis was true or did he just want to confuse Tommy

8:54, aunt Pol: "Call her Ruby. Ruby Shelby. She'll be a star in a hollywood movie." My mind is thinking about Oshi no Ko, I'm predicting right now Tommy's third child will be Aqua

"No body, no death". The oft-repeated mantra. Never forgo ancient wisdom! Honestly, I was also fooled for a while until the actual funeral scene. They didn't show Arthur's body, even though they did so for John, which was strange. That was the biggest clue for me that Arthur was alive. Then Tommy not letting the mother get closer to the funeral so she wouldn't see through the ruse was another clue. On the meta side two major character deaths in one season seemed a bit too much.

One more clue was when they had a close up shot of Linda's face during the funeral, she didn't look sad enough (at least to me, lol kind of a horrible thing to say on my part but it was strange)

1920s uk politics - liberal party in decline, labour party (founded 1900) on a massive rise and formed a government in 1924, tories always consistent. Modern - Labour in government, tories as the official opposition, liberal democrats (not the liberals) are third largest, green party, reform, scottish nationalist party etc all considered important political parties.

wes is right, US politics is so, so simple compared to France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Mexico etc
