Honestly, anyone who hasn't watched One Piece yet should just wait a bit. They announced a full remake of One Piece by Wit studio (made attack on titan and Spy x Family etc) which aims to improve animation quality and more importantly the pacing issues. Current One Piece anime has terrible pacing because it would catch up with the manga and instead of taking a break they just spent several episodes to animate a door opening or characters walking 10 meters. Alright I'm being hyperbolic but it's really not that for off from how bad the pacing is sometimes. With a remake the manga is so far ahead this will never be an issue.

I was wondering how no one else was confused. I checked One Pace and yes, apparently its that. For anyone else wondering, it's a fan project which recuts the original episodes to leave out fillers and fix the terrible pacing. Might be a good idea, ive never watched it though, so not sure what to expect. One problem might be the sudden jumps in animation quality, like that first episode is clearly much newer than the original first episodes. But as long as they are aware, it should be fine?!

We all know that a certain point the pacing sucks but I would never recommend One Pace, they get too stiff with what they cut and don't let many scenes play as good as they should, from action, emotional scenes, combersations, and even plain establishing shots

I’m not against one pace at all but the thing is one pace tries to adapt exactly to the manga, but a manga is a completely different medium than an anime. The problem lies with how things are being conveyed or told. I think the original anime’s approach to the early stuff is far better than one pace’s approach of the “remixed” backstory and missing characters. I personal suggest just like the first 10-20 eps of the og then going to one pace. TLDR I don’t suggest to watch episodes that go all the way to the 300s cause they are “remakes” which the og is conveyed better

great show, but i don't think it is worth it to dedicate yourselves into while having kids and doing other shows as well. If other slots wont hurt because of it i am all for it, but if it does take slots of other potential shows then that's a bummer. As people already said, anime has atrocious pacing. I think you should wait until WITs remake at least

Definitely wasn’t on my bingo card. I love One Piece, it’s great. The characters, the world, the story… but it needs some time to reach that big scale and the bad pacing, which just gets worse over time, really doesn’t help. Wouldn’t be surprised if you catch up to it before it actually ends :D I’m sure you’ll enjoy it either way.

It's not just fillers that are problems though. I mean the whole Dressrosa Arc for example is canon and it's not filler but man did they stretch single manga panels into entire episodes sometimes. I would honestly have preferred filler episodes over that. But I see your point about voice cast. On the other hand that doesn't mean the new cast would be bad or worse than the current right? At least for completely new viewers. People like us who have already watched 1000+ episodes already will probably always be biased towards the current cast though.

Long shows can end up being the most rewarding reactions to follow. One Piece is a whole experience, not just a series, and the journey is what makes it special. Plus, it’s really a different kind of story than MHA, so comparing them doesn’t totally fit.

One Piece, to me, is one of the greatest stories written. Yes, I say that without restraint. With that being said, the One Piece anime is rough and is carried by the spectacular source material of the manga. I haven't watched the version you're watching (One Pace), but having just watched it with you, it's doing a great job! Keep using it. This is coming from a hardcore One Piece fan. One Piece is really old btw. It started in mid-1997; it's probably the oldest anime you've seen, and it's still ongoing.

What Sappy says. Even though fillers aren’t great, I’d still prefer them over what One Piece is doing with artificially stretching scenes out. At least you can skip fillers entirely if you’re not interested in them and just watch the well paced main story but that would probably hurt the ratings. But Htatki is also right. The remake announcement was already two years ago, and we haven’t gotten any new info so far (afaik), so I wouldn’t hold my breath for it.

OMG!!!, I literally screamed when I saw this video on my Patreon, One Piece is my all-time favorite show, don't mind what others say like "it's too long or the pacin ( that yes its annoying but not a big deal), every minute of this series is worth it. Obviously, it's not perfect, but it's a great anime that has managed to stay on the throne for over 20 years. With 3 episodes per week, you'll catch up in about 7 years! However the series isn't finished so it'll take ~9.8 years to be up to date If you enjoy it though more power to you and you got content for the channel pretty set up like a trust fund, but it's definitely the Greys Anatomy of anime I stopped watching years ago at around ep900 but if you catch up I guess I could catch up with you guys lmao

i have a mid feeling toward both show quality , but i do very much regret the time both of these show took from other potential anime that only have 12-24 episode , 2ep of mha and 3ep of one piece is a 5episode per week that could complete many MANY other series.

People will complain about you guys watching One Pace but I promise you it's far more practical for reactions! The vast majority of cut content is entirely unnecessary, the aim of One Pace is to make the show flow more like the manga. I’m also a bit skeptical to be honest but it seems the majority of comments are in favor of it. I think it’s a bit strange when people just measure a show by how long it is and categorically exclude a series for that reason. They are watching eight anime right now, plus other stuff. I don’t see the problem with having one or two long running shows in the schedule, as long as they are actually good or at least liked by enough members. In this case, it seems they even picked it themselves, which is even better. :) Obviously, it’s a bit of a bummer if you aren’t into those long shows and One Piece is probably the most extreme when it comes to show length. Still, I think there are plenty of other shows in the roster to enjoy.

One Piece!?! Well, that's a surprise and quite an adventure to partake on. Somewhere I wish you started Bleach first (out of the big 3) since it will air its last season in 2026, so you could capitalize on the hype surrounding the conclusion of the Bleach anime on Youtube. (The final arc The Thousand-Year Blood War has been brilliantly adapted.) I'm not familiar with One Pace, the edited version of the OG One Piece, but I do recall that the first hundreds of episodes of One Piece are well-paced, so I think switching back to the OG would be the better option. It allows for the emotions to properly settle instead of cutting quickly from scene to scene. The pacing does get horrendous after a time. In the 300s? But definitely in the 500s. That's when you should switch to One Pace. Last but not least, watch out for One Piece episode titles! Since they tend to be more revealing than other shows. One of the titles (in the +1000-episode run) is "Character X Dies on the Battlefield."

be warned there is currently 1000+ episodes. while phenomenal this show is a daunting task that will take AGES. if you really are hooked tho, i reccomend watching "One Pace" its the same show but without filler and better pacing

One Pace is not just a "squished down" version of One Piece. As far as I understand it, the One Pace team are very conscientious of the pacing of the story. They don't trim the fat off of important scenes that need to breath. They instead remove a lot of anime-specific padding like recap, repetition, "reaction shots" and added scenes that don't add to the plot but are just there to pad an episode out to 24 minutes. As a specific example addressing your comments about past and current pacing, the East Blue arc is only trimmed down about 20%, while the recent arcs are trimmed by a whopping 50%.

there will be lots of people sharing baseles opinions in these comments so heres my thoughts as someone who has seen the entire series so far and watched one pace, ONE PACE (how u watched these episodes) is by far the best way to get into one piece at this point in time. it is a fan project that people have poured years of passion into, to ensure the best most accurate adaptation of the original manga. one pace cuts 0 original content and drastically reduces run time due to the amount of filler scenes and padding in the original. worth noting that i have seen other reactors like yourselves that don't have time to watch 50 eps a week use one pace and report that it was a great experience.

I can’t believe you guys have started reacting to One Piece! When the video popped up in my feed, I was absolutely over the moon 😆 This was actually my first time hearing about the “One Pace” version too, until I saw it through your reaction videos. So far, it feels really faithful to the manga, cutting out some scenes that were added by the anime studio. Sure, some fillers are pretty good and it’s a bit of a shame to lose them all, but others definitely drag things out and can be exhausting to watch—so there are pros and cons. In the end, just go with whatever you enjoy most. Personally, if sticking close to the original story is the goal, I think One Pace is a great choice 👍

well for me personally , i only watch them for geass/hunter reaction , they have not start any new show that i am intrested in (psycho pass , FATE , gundam) and now those show will have even less chance to get pick because they use about 3 hours of their time per week on these 5 episode already (on top of their kdrama reaction) AND it will be like this for YEARS , well , i only stick around untill geass and hunter is done then i am gone , so i guess i am done with my bitching here.

I haven’t seen One Piece yet, but content wise, it makes sense for them to react to this series in terms of the channel. They’ve gone through a lot of the more popular shows and anime, and for long term growth, why not react to one of the most popular anime out there?

Of course most people would vote they watch the original as most people experienced it that way themselves and such a poll would certainly make sense if this show was picked by a poll in the first place but it wasn't. They chose to watch the series by their own initiative and obviously the One Pace version isn't something you accidentally stumble upon by happenstance; they actively decided to watch the show this way, let's leave that decision in their hands as was.

What "important context" was "removed"? I have the manga right next to me, and it's about 99% accurate, the only scene cut was Luffy getting sucked into the whirlpool, which is hardly "important context." Everything else cut was anime original, which is the entire goal of One Pace, to trim the filler and only show manga content for the most part. It gets a little dicey at some points, due to how much the anime sometimes changes, but it's a perfectly acceptable alternative to the bloated mess of the official adaptation.

I mean they are not necessarily wrong. It depends on the context. Although assuming this is the case in one piece would be headcanon.

I admit, I was confused and then disappointed when I realized this was One Pace not the original One Piece. I get the complaints about pacing, I do... I get the amount of time saved. But for me, cutting the fun and mello crew interactions is just not cool. I find One Pace jarring and weird early on, and later it really robs some of the later crew of great moments. It's just not quite the show I fell in love with. I'll give this a try, of course, but I hope they at least understand that this is not the original viewing experience.

I understand wanting them to watch one piece but even just watching one pace, to catch up they'd have to watch for over 2 years, while with current one piece it'd be over 7 years, which isn't feasible for a reaction that posts weekly, aswell as for 2 parents

sure but u have to realise that most people arent interested in toei filler. there are some good toei moments but they are far outweighed by completely useless scenes that sometimes even undermine odas writing.

I can't believe ya'll are watching this 😂 you sold your souls, because this show is sooooo long. I personally don't like the anime, it's a bit too much for me, but I did try to come in on some of the more ridiculous episodes, so after watching the American live action adaptation (which I recommend) and realizing I really like the message and story (doesn't hurt that Zoro is hot af in it as well 👀) I figure watching it with you guys, I'll give the show one more attempt. It is interesting to see the differences between how the live action handled certain things vs the anime 🤔 in the live action, something I preferred and thought was hilarious was that the son was so vain, he had long hair and he'd flex naked in front of the mirror in his bedroom with Zoro's swords, which is why the swords were next to it, and after Zoro gets freed, he ends up in a sword fight with the son and cuts his hair into that hideous bob-cut, and it broke him 😂 so he develops a vendetta against Zoro for giving him a humiliating haircut. Something the live action explained better than the anime I've noticed is that Luffy is a dock urchin, so he has no parents, which is why everyone in the village feeds him and takes care of him. Shanks and the bartender lady were his family basically. I think because the live action is shorter, they did a good job condensing the important parts of the story and weaving it in, where in the anime, there are things scattered through hundreds of episodes from what I've heard. Everyone tells me "ya, it gets so good around episode 50" lol which is why I have such a hard time watching the anime despite knowing the story is good. This was kinda the problem with older anime storylines. They were a lot more drawn out. Detective Conan, for eg. It was my favorite show that started in the 90s or early Y2k and it's STILL airing. Still ongoing 😂 But ya, I'm curious to see what else was handled differently, and which tidbits I prefer from each version. As far as American adaptations go, though, which are usually criminally horrible, One Piece did SUCH a good job with their cast and the graphics, and the story was really good (the American Death Note as a stand-alone movie was still garbage, full of plot holes and felt like a horrible B teen horror/comedy, where One Piece was really good as a stand-alone project. I hear a lot of fans of the anime liked it as well)

I can't believe you guys are watching one piece now, what a nice surprise!! I started watching one piece because of the live action, so I skipped these episodes. Now that I’m all caught up, I can assure you it’s totally worth it. Knowing everything I know now, these first episodes feel really special, you have no idea how far this story will take you.

Ohh, guys, this is so wholesome and made my day! Also One Pace is soooo much better than One Piece, I didn't know!!! I started with the original anime, but the storytelling that stays true to the manga is so much better! I always love when you share stories from your life and always love to get your vibe, there's like this sense of unity, oneness that you guys have, I love your relationship and ethusiasm.

I would definitely re-watch the east blue saga (although I guess you will be watching along with them now anyway) the live action is great but, there are some parts that are wildly different from the anime/manga.

Very late reply but I dont mind it. It did feel new and wasnt too much of a fan when I saw it but I realized people have always watched it differently, and even more will when the One Piece remake by Wit Studio releases it soon But at the end of the day, as long as people watch One Piece, I really dont care how at this point. As long as everyone experiences it, Im happy.

It’s still crazy to me that they censored Luffy stabbing himself in the face in the original anime run since his scar is such an iconic part of his character design and such a unique way to introduce a character. I’ve never seen One Pace version so I am glad they took that part from a later one piece special episode and kept it in there at the beginning. I am someone who started with the original anime then switched over to manga only after a while so I am curious to see how this goes.

I don't get why people keep saying this. One Piece has the same runtime per episode as most anime. I think people get too caught up focussing on a destination and get overwhelmed knowing there is a lot of content in existence rather than just enjoying the episodes they are currently watching and seeing where it takes them. It's honestly better to look at the show on an arc by arc basis rather than be concerned about how many episodes there are.

Nah, dude. One Pace seems to have terrible pacing and simply doesn't hit the story beats the same way. No one is saying they have to watch filler episodes, but they should at least watching the first episodes in their original form so they get better idea of what kind of story this is first.
