goodness this album is so good i cant even, thanks for the reaction!!!!!

Infinite Ree

Don’t forget, these lyrics are probably AI generated translations, so take with a grain of salt

Infinite Ree

Just heard you intro, so nvm lol

ola

Guys be ready for tomorrow's concert on NETFLIX!!

☾Joey

“Baby I’m a baby” is killing me LMAOOOO well at least you guys know these lyrics aren’t 100%😭 granted, a lot of these lyrics are in English anyways

☾Joey

Also, I suggest watching an explanation video on arirang (not of this album, but the original song). Its unofficially considered Korea’s national anthem 💜

Ami

Ahhh! Y’all are early with an album reaction! This has become top 2 if not my favorite Bts album. It’s overproduced in the very best way. And so experimental. And we got lots of rapline again! I wished upon a star for an album like this.

Camz Stephanie

Wes on Merry Go Round: It reminds me of Tame Impala... He is one of the Producer of this song. 💜💜

I love your album reactions so much, you verbalized a lot of what I felt while listening too! I still have no idea what my favorite song is, might be between Normal and Body to body (with Aliens/FYA runners up). I didn't fully vibe with some of the songs in the second half at first (One more night, Into the sun and Swim), but now that I've listened to the whole album a bunch more, I really like what they've done with it and the whole production, feels very fresh for the start of BTS 2.0 I think no.29 being a gong to make you go "huh?" and sit in silence for a minute and a half is great, really separates the 2 very different halves of the album; so even if I liked the first half more overall, it still feels very cohesive despite the different genres and that makes me love the whole thing even more :)) I hope that made sense lol TLDR: amazing album 10/10 no notes (also went from being underwhelmed by swim to "please get this song out of my head it's way too catchy for my wellbeing" lmao)

What you guys talk about at the 25-minute mark, I'll personally say that as an ARMY of 10 years, this is the exactly the album I've been waiting for after so long and I believe it best reflects who BTS have always been as well as who they are now. This experimental hip-hop production...it's like they polished and perfected the sort of music they were making 12-13 years ago at debut. Even when they did pop, that hip-hop was always at the root. And now Namjoon said this album is going back to the roots. I can't even describe how happy I am with this album!!

kiyo

i think the dreamy feel in a lot of these songs is probably from Diplo's production - I don't listen to him alot specifically but all the songs of his that I like have that kind of airy, breezy dream-like feel!

may⁷

I feel like this album is an album you like the more you listen. Because I just love it more each time. It is SO bts to try new stuff. Love it cause you never know what you will get from them.

Karin

Yayyy! I was waiting! The baby part in "Body to Body" is "ri ri riri ari~" Thank you for doing this with us! 😭💖 I'm okay with re-react! 💕 Jaeguchi gets the lyrics and coding wrong sometimes. In Hooligans, there was only one line attributed to Jin, but there are more. Also, if you wanna explore the relevance of Arirang as a folk song more or Gwanghamun square as a venue for the live comeback, there are two videos from David of DKDKTV, and there's also a fun video by Talk to Me In Korean. They're short and concise and fun to react to if you wanna do it with is! 💖

Amazing album

Ale

ARIRANG IS SO GOOD. I loved this album, and maybe I’m a little biased, but it might be my favorite one hahaha. BTS never disappoints 😭😭 Also, guys, there’s a lot of content. I don’t want to overwhelm you, so I’ll just mention two things that are already out: - ARIRANG STUDIO NOTES: a live where the guys talk about the album process and share anecdotes. It’s really good! It’s on Weverse and YouTube. The captions aren’t fully accurate yet, but they’ll probably be up later tonight or tomorrow — so maybe wait for better subs 🤗 (EDIT: There is not subs until now 🥲) - The Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe: such a great interview (and it has subtitles!). EDIT: And yes, is that 40 min long interview that you mentioned in the reaction hahha And of course, the live performance tomorrow on Netflix!!! There’s more coming, so stay ready haha 💜✨

Ru Taz

Yaaaaaaaaaayyy

Lela

This album is sooo good! Impossible to even pick a favourite song

Ru Taz

Hooligan and normal are my fave 💜

Ahjusshi_Brown

The bridge of the Body to Body is a sample of Arirang, the actual song itself (which the album is named after). That is the melody and lyrics of the song. It's actually so old of a song that there are like 3000 versions. But BTS used the most common/familiar part (the chorus of Arirang) for Body to Body. A fantastic intro song to the album.

Ahjusshi_Brown

The first half of the album reflects BTS' roots: Hip Hop. Heavily rapline focused, incredibly unique production, raw and confrontational and bragadocious lyrics. The second half is more vocal line focused and almost indicative of who they became, what their roots sprouted into

Ahjusshi_Brown

No.29, the interlude. Meant to separate the first half of the album from the latter half, their roots from their growth, their past from their now. It's actually just a 1 minute and 38 second recording of The Divine Bell of Seongdeok--the 29th National Treasure of SK The ringing of this bell historically signified HOMECOMING or to signify a moment to find peace. It's well known for the resonant sound it creates and how far/long its sound waves travel (how long it takes for a single ding to dissipate). IMO it's inclusion isa a (forced) pallete cleanser that allows the lsiteners to catch their breath, lock in, and get ready for the change that's coming

Ahjusshi_Brown

My interpretation of SWIM (and this is based off the MV too) is that it's a play on the lyrics of Arirang. At its core, Arirang is a song of sorrowful longing for losing/being separated from a loved one. Historically, the lyrics have been metaphorically tied to major moments in Korean history (like the Japanese Occupation and the separation of North and South Korea). From BTS's perspective, they've been separated from ARMY, and ARMY is the "girl" they're trying to get back to. The one that they could spend a lifetime watching. For me, the MV is like ARMYs pov of this separated relationship. She's clearly sad and longing, and the ghosts of her lost loved ones are around her, but she can't see them. Kinda like how when BTS was in the military, separated from ARMY, we had the memories, but we couldn't see each other. Also, the whole desert-to-ocean thing is so uniquely BTS + ARMY. You guys will come to understand what I mean when you get to the Love Yourself portion of your album deep dive. Regardless, the imagery is not lost on me that when BTS "left us" in the Yet to Come MV, they were in the desert. And when they finally greet us again, they're in the ocean. Like come on 💜

Ahjusshi_Brown

tame impala actually wrote/produced for this album

Ami

ok I need yall to react again notfor better lyrics but because I promise this album has drugs in it. its gets addicting. and sounds better and better every listen somehow.

Seneca

You guys are missing context for their album cover, MV, and overall theme– you need to watch the animated album trailer (on the bangtantv YouTube channel). It’s about important Korean history! There’s more to No. 29 as well. Long story short, there is a famous Korean artifact labeled National Treasure No. 29. It’s a royal bell, and that is a recording of it ringing.

THi

I have to honestly thank you. Your ideas and comments made me GET IT. I feel like I've been listening and listening, but couldn't get it - then you made me say, "Ohhhh." So, thank you.

bmystee

I absolutely LOVE the album! It just shows how experimental they are right off the bat and how brave they are to drop this after being gone for so long. It sounds so new and mature but also so BTS. I totally agree that you can hear bits of their solos in this album. So glad for them to be back!

Laurynn Coleman

Woah Wes!! You said Merry Go Round reminded you of Tame Impala and thats who produced that song. Good ear.

H

Normal and Please were originally my favs because they reminded me of the early 2000s. Btw I laughed when you mentioned Britney b/c I knew her name would come up again🤣. During a live the boys mentioned that J-Hope and V were like the mvps of this album. I love how they always hype each other up. I appreciated the came back and they came back on their terms and that is what this album was really embodying. When you said that this album was about watching a memory really connected with me. Love your reactions

Green_

So, there is this guy on TikTok called jinwoopark0721 who explains the lore behind the bell… he said it’s so old they don’t even ring it anymore to avoid damage, but they agreed to ring it again for the album so the sound will be preserved… he mentions more details about Silla dynasty folklore related to the bell, so, hope u can watch it later if u have time:))

Sabbie

Agree with you! Also, it's so interesting how all of the complex emotions they were articulating are part of what Arirang feels like to Koreans. It really explains why the album had to be called Arirang.

Sabbie

Yes, great recommendations! I'd even say they should watch the Studio Notes first before the Zane Lowe interview, same order that we got it in.

The long pause felt like meditation. We would start the meditation part of my yoga class with a gong. Also, BTS said they poured everything that has been haunting them over the time they were waiting to be BTS. That during military time, time passed quickly so it wasn't until after they got out that they felt how long it's been and they had pent up anxieties about what the response would be, what music they should do, and how much they missed army and wanted to express that properly. So the "love songs" they are talking about their bittersweet but also puppy dog love for army and the harder songs are what they've been dealing with while living as "normal" people but being who they are, they are set apart, and then the sadder, softer stuff is the things they've been struggling through because after being in such a high octane lifestyle for so long, they never got a chance to really FEEL the aftershock. Even on their breaks, they are living as celebrities, so during military and their downtime, they had to feel everything they internalized over the decade. All the scrutiny they've been under, the question of "who is BTS?" Or "what sets BTS apart?" There've been theses on this in universities and it's asked in the news and they've just had to carry these burdens. Yoongi, I imagine, put a lot into the songs where criticisms are mentioned since for a spell there, a portion of army were calling for his removal after the scooter incident. I can only imagine how much pressure he must've felt about coming back into the spotlight after all that. Some of this info came from their live performance this morning, but they seem to go more in depth about it in the upcoming documentary. The trailer for it is where Namjoon talks some of what this album holds. Just like the album, their emotions have been chaotic. Good, bad, but they're sure of the fact they love army, which is why they end the album with another army love song, "no matter where you are, I'll find my way to you, no matter how far apart we become, we'll fly into the sun with you" I take that as how they expressed all the bittersweet aspects of their lives and career, but as long as army is with them, they'll fly right into the pain and brightness of fame to be with us. 😭💜 each BTS era's love songs to army are so good, but I think this is my fave besides Magic Shop. And gods~ there's so many songs I love from this album, I'm not sure how I could choose 😂 Aliens is iconic, but I also am obsessed with Like Animals, but daaaamn Normal and FYA all hit so hard~ and Merry-go-round, I relate to so hard it hurts 😫 they're all soooo good! Swim is so good too, but the mv is my fav part of it. Hauntingly beautiful because it was like "we're together, but forever apart like ghosts watching over each other" vibes

Chels

It just occurred to me, but it also cracks me up that their go-to thinking place for writing music is L.A of all places 😂 it feels full circle to American Hustle Life (which I still advocate watching despite it's controversial aspects. It is a huge part of their journey) because that's where they focused their early training. So ya it feels like all of them go "hmm, I need inspiration.. Off to L.A to lock myself in a rental!"

Crystal Baby

I personally don’t look at the lyrics until like the 6th listen I just enjoy the song and then check the lyrics later

Marissa K

same, usually wait for the army translators. Not the google translate most lyric channels do if they put it out within a day of release

Marissa K

I absolutely adore this album. It's now above Map of the Soul, Tear and Wings for me. I had to listen a second time to really get it and on good speakers. Cause a tinny phone speaker did not do anything justice. The only one that I have a hard time listening to, and it's because my ears are very sensitive to it, is Into the Sun. I really wish the producer didn't put such heavy autotune on the harmonies. It gave me an instant headache. Other than that, the song would be awesome.

Marissa K

You may want to check out the lore and insights of Arirang. It's a Korean folk song, that can have different meanings depending on how it's sung. But it's mostly about the longing of home. BTS also did a cover years ago for KCON in France. You may also want to check out Studio Notes Live (On weverse and Youtube) they explained the process of the album and talked the night before the Netflix Live Comeback.

Venita Morse

The more I listen to this album the more I like it and my favorite keeps changing. I love, love Normal. I also have the same feelings as you guys where I love when the switch up who sings what, instead of the same person singing the same lines. It really shows how much each of them of grown even throughout there solo projects. I just love this album.

Venita Morse

Lyrics i usually get to when I watch reactions.

Marissa K

If Army is the girl, when she wakes up in the cabin, there is a wedding dress. I still believe its a nod to the in joke, Yoongi Marry Me

Ahjusshi_Brown

There’s an Arirang explained by a Korean video on YT. And so many more by Koreans have dropped since BTS revealed the album title. There’s a lot they could look into—hopefully they get a chance

Suttin More

"It felt appropriate that every song was in this -- album with each other", "They are going through their memories to compose the music" ... I just love the both of you 👌🏾 💜

yoyo?

Yes! I was so suprised when he said that lol, i hope he finds out he was spot on

Sang

Hey guys pls also watch BTS Netflix performance

Mich Sm

Discovering the lyrics with you made me appreciate the album even more

Marjority Wins

Wes mentioning Britney while discussing Body to Body. Me: Just you wait! 😄

Aparna

Honestly I love this album!!

Maeee

TAME Impala mentioned??? I knew it had to be him when I heard it hehe, and I was right~

ozziepupreid

Nostalgic is the biggest feeling this album gave me. That's the best word I can think of for it. I like the album but I do wish I could hear the vocals more instead of having the music at the same level as the vocals in many of the songs and all the voice effects added.
