W one piece

Pablo Aguirre

Oh boy I better grab some tissues

Brnden

Hiriluk and Choppers backstory, despite the sheer scale of One Piece as a story, continues to hold up as one of my favorites both in One Piece and anything ever. It's the perfect encapsulation of what make this story special to me, it never fails to make me cry, im so glad you guys enjoyed it!

Mr. Bibinho

It's so fun to rewatch this arc with y'all while also seeing the One Piece Live Action

AL

Ahhh shii here we go again

Hayate

The anime had 5 filler episodes in early Alabasta arc that were cut in the One Pace version so there may be some moments where you think "huh this cut was weird" next week

Mike Hunt

Today's frog is tomorrow's prince

Saku

Oda loves scattering tidbits of information across arcs, which I love.

RCG

Don’t worry, it’s the first time you’ve seen Ace. There are also other things we only get a glimpse of that don’t really matter right now but will come back later in the story.

The Chopper line about becoming the cure-all by becoming a doctor probably hits harder on a rematch because of the dramatic irony of Chopper as a being. The cure-all mushroom the soldiers talked about was not the amiudake mushroom that Chopper retrieved, it was the Human-Human Fruit that Chopper ate.

CT

yesss, dragon was in loguetown w/smoker

Billbob

So yeah, as you've probably noticed the key requirements for a Straw Hat pirate is to have a dream and a tragic backstory, and evidently the whole "alienated rudolph" thing with chopper wasnt enough for Oda. Poor guy, even if he may have been added to fulfill a mascot role that manga publishers loved throwing into things for marketing reasons he still is a great character and crew member.

About the word “nakama” that is heavily used in One Piece: yes, it means “friend,” but the most common word for “friend” in Japanese is actually “tomodachi.” “Nakama” also means comrade, mate, or crew member, and that’s exactly why the word resonates so much with Chopper — and with being a pirate in general. He desperately wants to “belong” somewhere

Philsi

Welcome aboard, Chopper. As a side note, you are now at the point in the story where the current season of the Netflix live-action adaptation ended. It was really cool seeing these scenes be brought to life. Would be awesome if you guys watched it one day.

It doesn't matter how often I watch this arc. It always destroys me emotionally. There are not many anime that do this to me but One Piece is one of them.

Gelondil

I forgot my plan to post about Chopper's VA last episode, thanks for the reminder! Not only did she voice Pikachu, she's also did the voice for Cheadle Yorkshire in HxH. And on the topic... Mr 2 is voiced by the same actor that voiced Jango.

halastair

I think you should include the episode numbers from the original anime in the title, or at least mention the name of the arc in the title. It seems to me that people are expecting certain moments and get confused, probably because not many of them have watched One Pace. You can check corresponding orignal episdes and manga chapters in the official spreadsheet of One Pace

Kantzo

I feel like, in this case, the original One Piece would have a greater emotional impact on Chopper’s story, but whatever. Also, why is it “Arabasta” instead of “Alabasta” and “Bon Kurei” instead of “Bon Clay” in One Pace? I assume these were the original names in the manga, which I haven’t read.

Clarkiie

Yes, they're original names from the manga. I watched the original on Crunchyroll the other year and was a fair few translations that changed throughout the show for whatever reason (Arabasta/Alabasta, Berry/Belly,I'm sure Mary Geoise was Mariejoa at one point too) I'm assuming it was based on localization/be closer to source material.

Gopal

L's and R's are the same in Japanese. It can be translated either way if not specified. I'm pretty sure One pace uses netflix subs. Crunchyroll has these the other way. It depends on the word whether it matters. For the names that don't matter whether it's an L or R, Oda won't always make any specific clarification, but when it does need to specifically be either L or R, Oda will write the name in English to clarify.

Billbob

Yep, it really is unfortunate that the word "comrade" kinda gained a bad reputation after the whole red scare and communism panic era because that really is the only good word in english for "more like a member of extended family than just a friend" relation that "nakama" is being used for. Thats why nami leaving was just so hard to believe for luffy because when he says you are nakama hes saying you will be friends to the end

Mia

because i am sick, i dutifully skipped all chopper and dr. hiriluk scenes as i can't take a stuffier nose :')

Jane Ling

Get well soon 🍀

Ne3mos-space

you will learn to hatenevery villan in this show

Ne3mos-space

yes wellv they are known as the monster trio

Michael H

I like that you guys are One Pacing the entire show. I’ve never done a complete watch-through of just One Pace, so it’s been cool to see the changes.

Infinite Winds

By far the weakest link in One Piece so far has got to be its villains

Xan

Panda also appeared when they introduced MR3 you both missed it.

VS

The middle-3rd of Drum is definitely one of the highs of the entire story <3 Also, 1:47:02 good example of why talking up a storm when everything's going on isn't ideal. ;)

KingKuto

First non-humans? Guys you literally met Giants in the last arc
