Brnden

What anime did you pick out steph? The people are curious!

Nina

What I've been wondering about is whether the brimmed caps mingle with the "normal" witches since they always wear masks (as far as I understand). That could explain them knowing Quifry, or he can just be famous/infamous haha Also how do the brimmed get their inc? If there are so many regulations in place I'm assuming that the witch society keeps track of the trees, if only to keep the secret from leaking to the regular folks.

Nina

+ I think we need a better definition of a "spell that harms others". Agot and Quifry were quite trigger happy with that fire spell and the water dragon (that they had prepared in advance I think)

I absolutely love the sequence of them drawing, they make it look so epic, the absolute spectacle of Qifrey’s water dragon, the white on black with the brimmed cap, lots of great adaptational choices, except for one major thing I have an issue with. In the manga, when Coco pitches her plan, Agott asks her what if the plan fails, and Coco argues that even if it doesn’t succeed, it doesn’t put them in any danger, and they can think up a new plan; to which Agott realizes Coco is operating under the assumption that she’s going to fail, and this is what’s so significant to her; it gives some insight into Agott’s deeper motivations and philosophy. I cannot for the life of me figure out why they cut this, to me it’s super important to the exploration of how Coco and Agott differ in their mindsets and approaches, and it’s one of my favorite parts of this whole arc. Coco’s compassion for the dragon was still there, it just feels like removing layers for no reason; I’m very baffled by this choice.

Yorutia

Yes. It is genuinely a better plan than attacking the dragon directly because of its low-risk high-reward nature. Here, it is portrayed more like just a naively kind alternative. (Although you may also argue that as a viewer you can also notice this by yourself.)

Any spell can harm anyone, if you make fire or water and have it shoot at something it will harm them. But there are probably spells you can argue are meant only to harm people that they probably ban. Agotts fire and wind spell on the dragon the other ep could clearly be used for war/harm onto others.

RCG

Amazing quality, beautiful animation. The first few episodes were already great but this one really convinced me that WHA is going to be a top show. It's also pretty clear that we don't know everything so far. I don't think Qifrey will turn out to be the bad guy but there's definitely more about him. Revenge for something that happened in the past, maybe? He seems to be super focused on going after the masked guys. Even if he has to bend (or break?) the rules.

Yorutia

It's a bit like how our society treats guns and knives. Guns are banned in most countries, or at least tightly regulated. Meanwhile, knives are widely allowed and used everywhere, but misuse is still punished.

Derpin

So far brim hats looking like they are on the evil side of things. They have done the equivalent of giving a child a bomb with the crystal spell and tossing girls in a secluded area with a dangerous animal.

Billbob

Love the water dragon that was built off the moisture pulling spell so that it instantly pulled all of the clouds in the area to make that massive amount of water, poor dragon though it just got such a nice bed too. Also would be crazy to see a list of what spells Qifrey just has pre-drawn like these as his emergency spells, and probably would be horrible for any novice to get ahold of it and start completing the circles like with how Coco traced magic she didnt understand back in ep1.

Billbob

Yeah, to me she made it sound like it was a show specifically about what goes into animation which makes me think Shirobako which is great for that purpose

CD Elio

Coco and the Gang: We should make a bed of sand for the dragon so that it will not attack us cause that is what Master could have done :D Qifrey: Drowned the Dragon lol :O

Infinite Winds

I thought she meant that the show in question had such poor animation that it gave her a better appreciation of good animation by sheer contrast

Renden

Man, the presentation of this show is just 10/10. The animation obviously, but the composition, the angles, and then that hard cut from the music? Really fantastic. On top of everything else the worldbuilding is really interesting. They're not giving it all to us right away but instead spoon-feeding it to us bit by bit to give us a taste. If I have any qualms about the show at all so far, it's that the interactions between the girls feel a little...forced? But honestly everything else is so top tier I don't really mind that much.

Stephanie watching another anime without us, seems like cheating to me.

😂😂😂 Top 10 anime betrayals

Kasturi

In this fantasy world, the only thing seems impossible is the way they draw circle with ink pens. Ink pens are one of the hardest mediums to draw circle with! the nib just doesn't want to move like that TT I guess it's one of the things where magic does it's job and makes their life easier

Kasturi

also, for anime only people, there was this line from manga that coco says to agott during their planning section that anime didn't animate. The line itself makes an impact on agott but i wonder why they didn't show it here. maybe they'll show in flashback or smth idk so i'm not mentioning it here. but the line was beautiful and inspirational and close to my heart.

Eureka

Nice qifrey

Jan Češka

from these few episodes we've seen I'm starting to get the idea that we might learn that not all forbidden magic users are necessarily bad. I wouldn’t be surprised if lot of them were healers or just popple trying to make the world genially a better place. since even healing is considered forbidden magic

Holy Arathi

I don’t think Qifrey has lied about really anything, but what I do think is the Brim caps did something horrible to him or his family. Because he comes off as willing to do anything he needs to to catch them. Maybe a revenge thing which it why he doesn’t want the knights to know. He needs to be the one. Maybe I’m wrong.
