Sum Ting Wong

I need 2 episodes pleaaaseeee, showing only one for PEAK reactions is torture

Infinite Winds

The censorship in this version is making some scenes very confusing to follow

Infinite Winds

14:36 Wes heard incorrectly here. Iris does not call Saber sister, she just says Saber ni. Ni is just a grammatical particle. Also Nii would be brother rather than sister

Kindyh Bordat

Can you guys switch to the uncensored version ? The censorship is really weird.

yuuno scraia

binge it... insert starwars meme here... do it... xD

RCG

What’s wrong with the guy at the start? There’s an insane explosion that levels the whole building and you find a big floating mercury ball at the center. What are you doing? Well, I guess I’ll just stick my hand into it, lol.

Iriza

Iris said セイバーに (saber ni) which means "for saber." What Wes thought he heard was にい (nii) which means brother, not sister. Sister is ねえ (nee). In English nii and nee would be pronounced the same, but in Japanese, nii is pronounced like nee in English. "Nee" in Japanese would be pronounced as the "ne” in the English word "never" "nee~" Though, I'd like to think Iris thinks of Saber like a sister, it's pretty wholesome😊Both were brought into a world that was already decided for them.

Runhua Tang

You know what? You guys are right and I never thought about it this way: Kayneth technically did nothing wrong other than being an asshole lol. Comparing to other masters: Kiritsugu: Blew up building Waver: Mind controled innocent people Tokiomi: Abandoned his daughter Ryuunosuke: Serial killer Kayneh is unironically one of the good ones for sure haha.

Mario Prime Plays

They're probably using Crunchyroll, so unless there's a FREE alternative that isn't sailing the high seas, I doubt they're gonna watch the uncensored version.

Shiroufan11

To be fair most of what is being censored is dead children, so I don't really blame them for not watching it.

Shiroufan11

You can watch the op and ed now, all of the characters are introduced

Fabien

Hmm, I wouldn't be so sure. Actually.

Fabien

They could go on a special "free" website, if you know what I mean. And just not say it. It's very easy to find, even google indexes the one I use when I need it.

rryutie

21:51 yesss steph.. Give in!! give in to the urges to binge!! let's get some double drops. Amazing reaction as always, especially love how ur looking up the lore of the characters each reveal.

rryutie

It's meant to be visceral, the 'censorship' just takes away from the disgust we're meant to feel towards caster. I'm also certain they're not doing it by their own personal choice, it's 100% because crunchyroll/netflix/disney+ or wherever they're watching from (i cant tell), is using the TV version that cuts scenes for time reasons, the source the site is using isn't the bluray version that is uncut (uncensored). I tried looking this up but there's not a lot of discussion about it, so it's not as easy as to just recommend wes&steph swap stream sites from X to Y. And honestly all the stream sites might even have that same issue. It's unfortunate cause it's not just censorship, there's gonna be other small fun scenes cut out in future episodes, but it's probably not worth it for them to buy the bluray version (does anyone even own a bluray player nowadays lol). And ik A LOT of reactors are averse to piracy/3rd party streaming sites, despite those never having subtitle issues or censorship of any kind, so i'm not sure if they'd consider it either - unfortunately probably won't.

rryutie

ni and nee are pretty similar so i think it's really cool that he even picked that up, cause most reactors can't split their attention from the subtitles like that : D good effort!

Chels

Good job catching the Saber-nii! ☺️ only correction is that "nii" means "brother." They effectively treat Arthur/Saber as the man that they converted to. "Saber-nee" (nay) is "sister" Side fun fact: there are even modern cultures where people switch gender to fill a role like Saber has, rather than being trans or 3rd gender, non-binary, intersex, or any of those. There's a South American village (sorry I can't remember the name, but I think you can find them with some research) they are a patriarchy farming community that have more women than men. It was such a problem, they started having women volunteer to give up being a woman in order to fill the role of being a man. So they would swear an oath, stop dressing as women, take herbs to give up childbearing, be given land and choose a wife. If there were orphaned children, they'd be given to the couple, or the "wife" would have to pair with one of the village men until they could have a child of their own. It was really interesting. So Japan isn't just being creative with Gender in anime, there are cultures they take a lot of inspiration from. Something else I really think Japan does well with in anime is "witch" culture. They use the real animistic witch or pagan practices and beliefs in shows like Witch Hat Atelier, Ghibli movies, the concepts around Alchemy in FMA are also accurate to Middle Eastern culture. It's just something they naturally do so well at in anime because they aren't burdened by the stereotypes of witches. Even Harry Potter, which is about witches and wizards (a term only used in fantasy btw based on an entirely different type of practitioner) they were still stuck on using the Western stereotypes despite having true folklore for the rest of the world, like in the creatures they portray. There's a Ghibli movie called Tales from Earthsea that use real animistic witchcraft beliefs (specifically Gaelic) to a T. It always amazes me how much I could use anime for examples in my Anthropology classes lol

Chels

Kinda but not really. Honestly, I'm not usually one for censorship, but I'm a little glad for it in this case, mostly for Wes and Steph's sake, but partially for my own after that insect violation. I really rather not see the children being ripped to pieces, and I think we all have the critical thinking skills to figure out that's what's happening in those censored moments 😅 this is from a time period when anime had no chill because it wasn't gonna be aired anyway, so there's a lot of gratification of gore and sexual assault type stuff that I honestly wouldn't purposely subject W&S to, even if I watch it in my own time lol They have repeatedly expressed how much they dislike dark themes and horror. So ya, I'm a little glad for them they are spared the full impact of unrestrained anime body horror 😂

Chels

I understand how you feel. I'm fighting off temptation to watch ahead myself esp. because I never seen this, but please try to keep in mind how many other things they've got going on 😅 they have 3 yt channels, they've significantly increased the amount of shows they're watching all at once, some of which already have more than one ep, they have 2 children and a baby, and Wesley does all the editing at night when everyone goes to bed lol so I'm sure we'll see an increase eventually as we finish some other shows. We just gotta be patient and remember they're humans with lives outside of this, and just watch shows on our own time if the wait is grueling. 😂 (I've already broke on Witch Hat Atelier and watch them as soon as they release) P.s. your screen name ended me when I finally caught it 🤣

Chels

I rather not see the uncensored version of this one, tyvm 😂 it's only children being raped by bugs and being torn to shreds, sooo let's just spare them the trauma on this one. They've repeatedly expressed they don't like horror themes and gore, esp. around children. Plus, they just had a baby, so we should give them a break from the child trauma 😅 Yes, it's meant to add to the horror of the show, but we are honestly just as upset and disgusted by what's happening without having to see it. In fact, imagining it is probably worse, so I promise you, those of us who haven't seen this yet are getting the full "this is horrifying, we need to kill this sicko ASAP" effect. I'm not usually pro-censorship, but I watch horror on my own time, so I'm not gonna subject others who don't like it to the masochistic watching of body horror. They also have their own trauma we need to consider when we recommend certain anime. 😅 I can't say if it's fully related, but I suspect they're esp. sensitive to body horror around children because of what they been through and are scared of happening as new parents of small children. (Sorry, the break in my message is more of a response of the replies and the first one is to the initial comment)

He heard correctly, just interpreted wrong. This wasn't the grammar particle, but the honorific for "brother." You are right though, it's such a subtle usage, it could easily go either way, but Iri does refer to Saber with that term of endearment. It's because she see's Arthur as the human, where Kiri is trying to dehumanizing Arthur as Saber, because he knows how this goes. Saber is a weapon to be used by him. Nothing more than a tool. That scene is highlighting that Iri is worried about Arthur and "his" hand from a personal level, but Kiri is drawing a line and keeping that emotional distance by not looking at or fully speaking to Arthur, which is why we see that tension between the 3 of them right before a moment of vulnerability from him outside the building. Such good, subtle character building and it's being lost in translation lol but I'm so proud of Wesley for catching it at all. If Iri was using the "ni" particle and not the "nii" honorific (に vs 兄) there would be context of Saber going somewhere, or something going toward Saber (loosely speaking, because に is a multifunctional particle to mark movement as a concept and not just a verb ie. time, a subject that is a recipient of an action, location in existence, stuff like that. Basically to/is/by/at/on and so on) but based on context, she simply asked "what about Saber?" "Saber-nii..?" And if it was "Saber ni..?" I feel like the context would've been either Kiri says "Saber is going to (blank)" and Iri saying "Saber is going..?" Or it could be interpreted as "What's Saber going to do/what are we going to do to Saber?" But there would/should be more context given such as "Saber に ついて どうする?" Or just "Saber に どうする..?" (Adding spaces so people can identify the separate words. Usually they're more smooshed) 🤔 I'm intermediate in speaking Japanese, so I admit I could be wrong, but I think given the context and the fact we've heard her use the same honorific with Arthur before, I think it was a humanizing moment. Plus, ni as a particle isn't usually so pronounced. There was a subtle elongation on it that constitutes "ni-i" so that's kinda my thought process on it. But regardless of if it's ni or nii, be careful about being too quick to leave negative criticisms because we don't want to discourage. Constructive criticism leads with what he did right "Good job picking out the ni.." then follow with the information and why. "..but it's actually the particle and not the honorific, which are written differently. Here's the difference and how to use them" 😊 Ugh, sorry I made this longer than I meant, but I was trying to make a confusing thing less confusing, so I hope whoever decides to read this understands. Linguistics is my strong suit, but communicating them is not 😂

🤣 All I could think of was how when I was a kid, we found a ball of mercury in a bottle of bay leaves in the back of our cupboard. My father was showing me how cool it was, took his eyes off me for one second, and I decided to pour it out onto my hand. My parents freaked out, made me put it back and immediately wash my hands while explaining that mercury is highly radioactive and poisonous, so I shouldn't handle it in case it finds a way to ender my skin through tiny cuts and stuff. Meanwhile, this dude just sticks his whole damn hand into it 😂 insta-mercury poisoned. I kinda missed it if he figured out it was mercury before or after sticking his hand inside. I'm also wondering if he freaked out because of what it was, or if something happened to his hand inside? Like it disintegrated or something 🤔

Chels

I like how you put it 😂 "sailing the high seas." Gonna use that from now on. But ya, I honestly don't mind if they watch this one censored. It's probably better for them since they're sensitive to horror and children, and the suggestion they should pirate it on a free website from the other comment feels a little irresponsible. Like, ya they could.. and potentionally get 800 viruses for doing it, plus certain internet platforms will cut off your service for pirating, and VPN's aren't always helpful with that. Our internet modem has a tracker in it to specialize our ads and if we pirate something, so my father learned the hard way that even with a VPN, he can't use our internet to watch on free channels. We had to change our service to my name, and he had to go to the bar to download movies. (I personally find it too much effort, like just rent the damn thing lol)

kinetic98

I think ni in this case meant "to" Saber. As in 友達にプレゼントをあげます (Tomodachi ni purezento o agemasu) - I give a present to a friend.

sasha

Also when he was being obnoxious to Waver he was right on what he was saying about Waver submitted paper

kiki

While I have been consistently engaging with Fate media for the better part of 10 years, I haven't revisited F/Z in SO long and now watching with you guys i'm actively reliving the fact that Caster used to (rightfully) scare the shit out of me lmao Also, there's a few weird cuts, but i'm personally not taking an issue with the censorship since they're not leaving out anything important.

Infinite Winds

The full context is: CASTERの魔力だって無限じゃないはず、枯渇するまで持ちこたえればSABERに勝機があるわよね?キリツグ? Caster no Maryoku Datte Mugen janai hazu, Kokatsu Suru made Mochikotaereba Saber ni Shouki ga Aru wa yo ne? Kiritsugu? Even Caster's mana should not be unlimited, If Saber can hold on until it dries up she has a winning chance does she not? Kiritsugu? 'Saber ni Shouki ga Aru' The に particle here indicates movement from one state to another. The movement from the state of a losing position to the state of a winning chance, specifically. The initial state is implied by context, the latter is stated. The weirdness you're hearing in the pronunciation is not the i sound being elongated but a very slight pause between the words Ni and Shouki that the VA is adding for a flavor of uncertainty in Iris' voice

Rostislav

"They're multiplying!" 😂

naruheso

Your transcription of Iri’s line is perfect, but に does not “indicate movement from one state to another” in this sentence. The construction “Xに Yが ある” (lit. “to X there is Y”) is just the normal way of saying what in English would be expressed as “X has Y”, where the particle に marks the possessor. In this case, X = Saber and Y = 勝機 (a chance of victory), so セイバーに勝機がある simply means “Saber has a shot”. No “initial state” is being implied by context here. The voice actor’s breathy voice in this scene can make it sound like the final /i/ is being very slightly lengthened, but even without the grammatical context the pitch accent makes it clear that she’s not saying 兄(にい).

Infinite Winds

I see. I suppose I was overthinking it a little

Renden

Although I agree, please remember that W&S have time constraints just like everyone else. The fact of the matter is, they are the parents of three young children and have only so much time to use for reactions. No matter how much we get, people will always want more, and more, and more. I am also enjoying their reaction to this show (and maybe they will switch to two episodes sometime soon), but please be patient.

Kebin

Yeah in this case it was just the particle in the sentence structure "に" but the fact remains fun I guess haha

jom

Nice trivia but you're wrong about them treating Saber as a man, her relationship with Kiritsugu is so bad precisely because he sees her as a girl. All the other servants we've seen so far also treated her as a girl at first.

jom

Yeah I remember being surprised when I found that what Kayneth was saying in the academy was correct.

Chels

Sorry, I should've been clearer that the show is effectively treating her as a man. You're absolutely right that Kiritsugu doesn't and that's why I was of the belief that there was a moment of tension with Iri humanizing Arthur. She (if I'm right about which ni is being used) is specifically going out of her way to use the proper pronoun in American terms, where Kiri is not respecting Arthur in any capacity, whether by gender or as a human. 😅 so ya, the only ones in the show that I think are treating Arthur as the gender of her choice are Iri and MAYBE Lancer, but the writers are the ones I was saying play with gender really interestingly in this show. I hope this kinda cleans up what I'm trying to say 😅

Chels

I ran the scene over my friend from Osaka and even he was like "I can't tell" 😂 so I think it's up for context and interpretation. Probably a little dramatized and that's why it's kinda confusing, but I'm kinda on the fence honestly lol Could you tell me why you think it's that usage of the particle に? This is a good opportunity to refresh my listening comprehension skills a bit

Chels

Apparently even my Japanese friend is confused so I think the show is messing with us 😂 why must Japanese be so context heavy?~ But thank you lol also your name nearly ended me 🤣 I must ask.. how does one become a Divine Simp? Is it like being a Cleric? You get chosen?

jom

Hey again, I just saw your replies. You're reading too far into it, saber doesn't want to be seen as a man, she just doesn't want to be treated simply as a girl, she's a knight and king first and foremost. Iri and lancer also don't treat her like a man or anything like that. In lancer's case he's just glad she's not charmed by him and respects her skill with the sword. As for the particle thing, it's absolutely the に particle, no question about it. Iri never once calls saber with an honorific, even less so in front of kiritsugu. Saber's story is that of a girl chosen by the sword and thus shackled by heavy responsibilities that prevent her from enjoying life as a girl. Sorry I'm in a rush rn but I hope this clarifies for you a bit.
