Man ive been waiting for this episode :D

Oscar Medina

About the comment you made about Saber looking young. In Fate after pulling the sword off the stone she stopped aging naturally. While Saber age is not officially numbered, she's mentioned to be in her 30s.

From my perspective, when gilgamesh wears the armor with hair up, HE IS A KING, he follows his path of kingship and makes sure that everybody knows HE IS THE KING when he wears his hair down with skin pants, he is himself, like chilled out version where he just wants entertainment/pleasure. ALSO, to him, when kariya chokes Aoi, he could not feel empathy or care any less, because to him, there are two insects/bugs playing in his garden entertaining his pet (kirei), this is how i always saw gilgamesh in this fate As you know, there are many other things like fate games (like fate grand order), in which gilgamesh is explored even more, as few stuff happens in the timeline he was alive (actual human form king gilgamesh), and some parts we even can see kid gilgamesh, so things like that also add onto his character, which they did not want to fully focus on as he is not the main focus of fate zero ANYWAYS, PEAK AS ALWAYS, FEROCIOUSLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT UPLOAD

eXxCeZz

So Ea is the babylonion god of creation, having created mankind from clay. In short a creation god. While Enuma Elish is the Babyolonian creation myth. The way I see Gilgamesh is just that he is bored. So he using Kirei to find amusement.

A Guy

To put it in a non-spoilery way Gilgamesh was summoned at the worst possible point in time in history for his outlook on things.

Excellent insight on Kirei and Kiritsugu's character as always. The thing regarding Gilgamesh is that he's an extremely complex character; far more than the one-dimensional arrogant "villain" he might appear as at first glance. In "Fate/Grand Order: Babylonia", you'll see another facet of him, which I think is the BEST side of him as a character. Also, it might not look like it, but Gilgamesh has a tremendous respect for Iskandar and Waver. Evidently because he used both of his GREATEST treasures; EA, and Enkidu (the Chains of Heaven) on him directly. Oh yeah, Arondight is the name of Lancelot's sword. And if you're wondering why he's a Berserker, is that in the traditional Arthurian legend, he experienced multiple episodes of madness.

Fabien

The way I see it, Gilgamesh just likes "interesting people", wether it's because they're very loyal, or because they're crazy. He seems to have 0 empathy (unless he respects the person), probably because he considers himself as above humans, but he also seems to like being around humans, at least some humans. I can guess two possible reasons he disliked Tokiomi: - Tokiomi faked his loyalty to Gilgamesh. Despite how he went above and beyond to show "respect" to him, Gilgamesh might have sensed it and we know how loyalty is important for Gilgamesh. - Tokiomi is a bit of the "perfect" mage, always doing things properly, never doing stuff that wasn't by the book for a mage ; Gilgamesh might just have found it genuinely boring. So he may not be genuinely evil, but he's crazy and thinks of most humans as if they were ants. And he's a bit evil too. My perspective. I won't tell you what his "alignment" in the visual novel is, it always puzzled me and it continues to puzzle me. I just can't quite agree with it.

Kindyh Bordat

I feel so empty after those episodes. I really don't know what happen next but I saw spoilers multiple times. It's about to get crazier.

Temojikato

Just want to add: Waver doesn't do it JUST because of his insecurity. As a newly formed mage (and a very fresh famiily of mages) they hold little sway in the magical world, yet cannot live outside of it. Winning the Grail War would surge Waver into considerable standing in the world. But yes, definitely not worth dying for and insecurity is definitely a big theme there too. Also, why would the Einzbern's show up? :o Kiri and Iris are their representation here. They ARE the Einzbern's here - It was still very confusing at the beginnen though, I get it :) Also I'm so afraid skipping Deen's stay night is going to make the next show SO confusing... I'll just hope not :p

Leandro Calderón

If you trully want to watch a series focusing on Waver yo can do it, theres one actually.

Fabien

The Einzberns' "wish"... he. It' possible you'll get it at some point, even if the anime adaptations aren't very clear about it.

banlungx001

I have the same question when the sub call ea the anti-world sword , but if he were really want to destroy the world for real , it s theory that he would need a much more mana for the output THAT he don t have , so it remain to be seen , iskandar reality marble is a much much more smaller world afterall , so it s not weird it s gone like that. Also , had gilgamesh try to fight iskander army with his usual arrow rain with his weapon , i doubt it would be fast enough to kill iskander soldier at all , he can probably shoot like 300 weapon at a time , do that while having to protect himself from the javalin and arrow from iskandar army at the same time? i highly doubt his chance. all of iskandar soldier is a servant afterall , most of them is weaker than iskander , BUT some of them are stronger than iskander himself.

Fabien

The "multiple watch orders" just come from the fact that the anime adaptations DIDN'T follow the order. Many people started with Zero because Zero was the first part adaptated by Ufotable (a very good studio, let's forget to weird first anime by Deen mixing routes and stuff), but it's just an accident. For the real story, there is only one order, and you're watching the last part, the prequel. It's not that big of a deal for when you'll watch Unlimited Blade Works, but for when you'll watch Heaven's Feel it will be: some of the biggest twists have been spoiled. You'll still have a good time don't worry, but well.

Joshua Moore

Enkidu is who Gilgamesh was talking abt as his only friend

Kronosok

Gilgamesh didn’t care about Kirei betraying Tokiomi because he hated him that much. Not killing Tokiomi himself is probably the most grace he could afford for the mage lol. As to why he hated him? He found him very boring because Tokiomi is a textbook definition of a mage of the fate universe. (They are very inhumane, delusional and chase pipe dreams, they hold no real ideal worth respecting nor providing any entertainment)

Hayate

The easiest way to understand why people recommend so many different watch order is Star Wars. Fate Zero is episode 1. Fate Stay Night is episode 4

Temojikato

Have you watched the Babylonia show / Played GO? I think you'd understand a tiny bit more why he's (subjectively ofc) not evil and why he has this interest in Kirei.

Temojikato

Yep, fully second this. Gilgamesh' character is impossible to analyze without Babylon - he's just too wel written and the context won't allow it.

Ryne

Arondight is the name of Lancelot's sword, though the name wasn't that well known until Fate since the name doesn't appear in most tellings of Arthurian legend. And yeah, Ea is pretty busted. It's mainly held back by two things. One, it's too powerful to really be used regularly. And two, it's the crown jewel of Gilgamesh's treasury. Him being willing to draw it is a sign of immense respect. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing your reactions as we move from Zero to UBW in a couple weeks.

Devastating_Warrior

I'll second the thing about "Babylonia" as well, it's a rough thing to recommend since so little of the previous events have been adapted, so it might be a confusing watch, but it's also so good and honestly, it's my favorite part of any Fate adaptation imo (Heaven's Feel coming in very close second).

The Anime Dude

As for Gilgamesh… what can we say? People act differently when clocked in vs clocked out. 😭 (Jokes aside: I think it’s less that he tries to get Kirei to do bad things and play puppet master, and moreso that he sees his true nature and finds him interesting/fascinating enough to give a little push, so he really doesn’t seem too different/contradictory to me.) 3 Servants Left. 3 Hours 55 Minutes Left. (Timer at the end of each episode) R.I.P. Irisviel, her character will be missed - she was so lovable. Waver & Iskandar are great too, such solid characters. Out of the masters that have been outed so far, Waver had the most desirable ending, which makes me happy author wasn’t too overly cruel to him. We now know who all 7 servants are. Berserker: Sir Lancelot Saber: Artoria Pendragon Lancer: Diarmuid Ua Duibhne Archer: Gilgamesh Rider: Iskandar / Alexander the Great Caster: Gilles de Rais Assassin: Hassan-i-Sabbah / The Hundred-Faced Hassan

Azer S

I don't think Gilgamesh is the devil. I think he just like collecting what's rare. Kirei's pleasure has value because his definition of pleasure is so deep buried, complex and f.. up that very few people could actually match it. Same with Rider personality, and Waver loyalty. The difference between gold and dirt is how rare they are. And it's the same for human. He want the most special flowers to blossom in his garden. Also Gilgamesh has a SF vibe for a reason: Because he's the king of the first civilization, everything from there is considered the fruits of his tree. Which mean his "treasure room" contain not only past reliques but also modern and future stuff.

RCG

If I had a dollar every time a character voiced by Akio Otsuka got killed by a blond dude with chains, I'd have two dollars. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice. RiP Iskandar.

Matthew Wise

I'm a bit suspired at your reactions to Kiritsugu's wish especially as Christians, and I wonder if it's largely informed by other shows such as Code Geass? Whilst your concerns are valid, I think the point emphasise is Kirtisugu is looking for a miracle, he's not wanting to have to kill some people to save other people, he wants people to essentially be pacifists. Where Kirei sees humans as violent by nature, Kiritsugu would seek to change that nature. From a Christian perspective could you not argue this wish would be a significant step in the direction of heaven on earth, an objective outlined in the lord's prayer? It's going to be really difficult for anyone to explain the grail or Gilgamesh without at least teasing spoilers. The thing is I'm not sure if the grail is ever well explained in the anime format. I feel like an explanation of angra mainyu might be justified after the final episode so they arn't completely lost.

Ethereal

The Einzbern family are a clan of alchemists and one of the three founding families of the Holy Grail War. They are homunculi and have had a centuries-long obsession with reaching the Root. They hired Kiritsugu to win the war for them, since combat isn't their forte. They formalized the alliance with an arranged marriage to Irisviel. Then, they fell in love. Irisviel is a high-quality homunculus, and their child, Illyasviel, is also artificial (using biological data from both parents).

Klinch

I did not notice that I haven't finished the reaction video. I just got spoiled by your comment. (not your fault) haha.

RCG

What? Why would you read the comments before watching the video? Lol. Sorry, I guess. :)

AL

You are my king... Ive actually never watched past Iskandars death episode, and I wont this time, to me this story ends here. The rest of the Fates are great I hope you enjoy them

Rinkashime

There is a spinoff anime 10 years later after this holy grail war. Waver Velvet is the main character. The title is The Case files of Lord El meloi II. Just puting it here if you are interested.

Shiroufan11

Next post HE will arrive, the namesake of my account.

Wes And Steph

Great question! I want to think through our perspective on it next time!!

Fabien

The primary aim of the Einzbern family isn't exactly the Root.

Koko

wait what is episode 2 and 3, i thought fsn was episode 2

Fabien

I don't think it should be explained any time soon, at least until they've seen Heaven's Feel. Which is also related. But yeah it's never really explained properly, the anime adaptations skip a lot of the lore, but that's not all: for Angra Mainyu most of the explanations come from something never adapted (because it would be hard to), the weird sequel of Fate/stay night: Fate/hollow ataraxia. The second episode of the trilogy F/sn F/ha F/zero.

Ethereal

It is, but I tried to give a simplified answer without dumping the full lore. What you're thinking of is the intermediate step.

Wurzeldieb

are there any plans to watch more fate content after the Ufotable main stuff? What are your favourites? I haven't watch everything, but my favourites are: Fate/Grand Order Babylonia, Fate/strange Fake, and the Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files

Vequoin

I read somewhere this version of Gil happened is when he was in a state of Trauma. Without spoiling much else in fate lore and Babylonia, this is the best explanation I can give.

Blocklv55

Better to just consider Zero as the whole prequel trilogy, and fsn as episodes 4 ,5 and 6

Tech Wisp

Love your pickup on Gilgamesh's character because it shows how complex he really is. But, no, he doesn't have a different persona or personalities, but moreso how he views human and his personal value system. Gilgamesh does not operate in categories of loyalty and betrayal at all. What he respects Waver is not only his loyalty to Iskander but also the rawness of his grief, a genuine human feeling. What he also respects in Kirei is the same quality in a different moral register, a man finally acting in accordance with his genuine inner nature. Gilgamesh's deepest contempt is reserved not for cruelty or disloyalty but for inauthenticity. In lore, Gilgamesh is 2/3 God as well, so he expects so little from people that when they are genuinely, completely themselves, even he cannot look away. There's also an analysis video of Gilgamesh made by Aleczandxr, which explains his character and role in fate/zero. He also made a really nice video on Iskander and Waver, which I would love to see you guys check it out as it helps appreciate them even more and the series as a whole. Amazing reaction as always.

Klinch

I finished the first episode (and thought the reactions were done). Scrolled down to chill and read comments. haha. No need to apologize. Completely my mistake. :D

Shiroufan11

I'm not sure if someone else mentioned it, but while Gilgamesh is confronting Waver the camera pans to his hand. This is because Gilgamesh was checking to see if Waver still had his command spells. If you remember, earlier Kirei told Gil that the last command spell needs to be used to force your servant to die so that the grail can be completed. Waver having no command spells is proof of his loyalty to Iskandar. It also shows that he and Iskandar were fighting side by side without the pretense of the contract, and that Waver had no intention of trying to claim another servant after his death.

Nyctophobiasm

Babylonia Gilgamesh was a very pleasant surprise when I was first watching Fate. I didn't expect them to write Gilgamesh like he was at the end of the original Epic because of how boring it might be, but they did it magnificently

Nyctophobiasm

To put it in perspective, Gilgamesh could have ended the entire war in a single night if he never held back.
