Kindyh Bordat

Immediately jumped on the video. It was a excellent episode, I'm just a little sad we didn't see the goat GINO =(

The Anime Dude

Fun Fact: we did see Nina pretty explicitly in S2 during the episode where this content was covered from Rudeus POV - pretty sure it had the confusion of seeing her then the beast man beside her when he turned around. We just didn’t know who she was yet back then. 😭

Gopal

Nina was actually there in season 2. Wes thought it was Roxy at first and thought Rudeus would be into the Roxy lookalike and Steph thought she looked badass.

95ArOm

It was s2 ep8

ivan

yeah the sword styles are basically, the sword god style is all about speed , thats why they have the technique of the blade of light, a super lighting fast swing to kill the opponent as fast as possible, the water god style is all about defense, parrying and counter-attacks like nina defending eri´s blade of light, and the north god style is a adaptable style that have all kinds of techniques and tricks like auber corbet the north emperor with his hidden short blades in his clothes, and in season 1 we saw they have sword throwing techniques. and yeah in sword use and magic the rankings one can achive are Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Saint, King, Emperor, and God.

RCG

I thought Nina would turn out to be a generational hater after everything she did at the beginning of the episode but I'm glad she had a change of heart. She's actually likable now.

Westerschwelle

Rewatch the Nina Rudy scenes back in Season 2: She is there :) I believe you actually wondered who that was.

Sergey (Horn)

In the scene where Paul knocks Rudy out before sent to Boreas family, Paul uses a counterattack from the Water God Style (the same move is shown when Eris loses to Isolte).

Dragons like Bananas

Random fun fact : The sword sanctum, were Eris is at , doesn't actually belong to the sword God . The sword sanctum is given to the strongest of the 3 Gods to make sure the people who go train there are always trained by the strongest swords men, currently it belongs to sword God, previously it was water God.

Fukayo

Making us like unlikable characters is this show's trademark at this point. And Eris made her first friends! Since these episodes run parallel to S2, here's a rough timeline sync (ages approximate, the anime never states them; Eris is ~2 years older than Rudeus): Eris 15 (S3EP1 start), Rudeus 13 (pre-S2) -> Eris arrives at the Holy Land, beats Gino and Nina, is named Sword Saint, starts training alone -> Rudeus is in his post-Eris depression and heads north as an adventurer Eris 15-16 (S3EP1, Auber duel), Rudeus 14-15 (S2EP1-4) -> Eris grinds solo, then duels Auber and pulls off the Longsword of Light -> Rudeus meets Sarah, then enrolls at the academy at 15 Eris ~17 (S3EP2 part 1), Rudeus 15 (S2EP8) -> Nina goes to challenge Rudeus and instead watches him one-shot Badigadi (the S2EP8 duel from the outside), comes back humbled and starts training with Eris Eris ~18 (S3EP2 part 2), Rudeus 16 (S2EP9-18) -> Reida arrives with Isolde, the girls train together, Eris beats Isolde by controlling her aggression -> Rudeus marries Sylphy, learns she's pregnant, and leaves for Begaritt (S2EP18) Eris ~18-19, Rudeus 16-17 (S2EP22-24) -> Paul dies, Rudeus returns home, Lucy is born -> S3EP3 picks up here --- Also, back in S1, once Eris realizes Gyes is Ghislaine's brother, he tells Rudeus she was so uncontrollable he was almost relieved when someone took her out of the village. That someone was the Sword God (Gal Farion). It's why he told Ghislaine last ep that he regrets raising her the way he did, that it made her lose her fangs. And it probably also explains why he's not thrilled seeing Eris soften her animal-like aura after training with the girls (even if it paid off). --- Some extra (non-spoiler) light novel context for your earlier question, "Why is Ghislaine sticking with Eris": She's basically the samurai cliche. Years after leaving the Sword God, she ended up penniless (she kept getting scammed since she couldn't read or count), and Eris's grandfather Sauros took her in when she was literally starving. So she dedicated her life to serving the family. When she learned they had all died, she renewed her vow: if she couldn't serve them anymore, she'd at least protect Eris for as long as she could.

DocGreen

A couple things the anime does state how old they are at least twice. During their birthdays and also rudeus does the time they sleep together. Eris was 17 when she fought auber since ghislaine says she was practicing sword swings for years

Oasis

Yeah. We saw Nina in the episode with Badigadi in season 2. You two even pointed her out saying that she has “important character design”

Oasis

As promised below is a quick summary of Mushoku Tensei Season 2, following last episode’s comment on the summary of Season 1. No spoilers of course, just a reminder since season 3 will use a lot from the first two seasons: Sylphie teleports into the sky above Royal Gardens in the Asuran Palace and saves Princess Ariel from a giant beast that was going to kill her (this beast was also teleported). Her hair turns white due to mana over-use. *Ariel’s Guardian Mage, Derrick Redbat, dies due to this incident.* Ariel starts to take Derrick’s dying wish, of her being the queen, seriously and starts making political moves to garner support. Sylphie, taking the identify of Fitz, becomes Ariel’s new Guardian Mage. One supporter of Ariel is Pilemon Notos Greyrat, the younger brother of Paul and the Head of the Notos Greyrats (which Paul should’ve been but he ran off to be an adventurer). His son, Luke, is the bodyguard of Ariel. After a failed assassination attempt by her older brother (Prince Grabell Zafin Asura) and the Prime Minister (Darius Silva Ganius), Ariel flees to Sharia to bide time and gain allies, under the guise of studying at the Ranoa Magic Academy in Sharia (a Northern Nation). A depressed Rudy goes to the Northern Nations to look for Zenith, unaware that Roxy has already asked Kishirika where she was at. Elinalise separates from Roxy’s party and makes her way over to search and inform Rudy. Rudy joins a group of adventurers called Counter Arrow. He gets closer with a girl called Sara, especially after saving her life, and finds out that he has ED. Through a misunderstanding, Rudy separates from Counter Arrow on bad terms and joins Soldat’s clan (made up of several parties) called Stepped Leader. He takes down a Red Dragon and slowly starts building a reputation for himself with the hopes that people will come back to him with information on his mother if he was famous and well-liked. Elinalise eventually arrives and informs Rudy. Rudy gets a letter from the Ranoa Magic Academy who’ve heard of Rudeus’ exploits and invite him to study there as a special student. Rudy, advised by the Man-God, goes there in hopes of curing his ED. He beats Fitz in his introductory test not recognising her as Sylphie. He meets with Zanoba (the Blessed Child Prince who’s obsessed with figures), Cliff (from the Eris episode, who’s a cocky genius), Linia and Pursena (Beast Girls, heirs to their respective tribes, and reformed bullies). He gets close with Fitz whilst doing research into the Teleportation Incident. He eventually gets a slave, Juliette (or Julie for short) to make figurines for Zanoba. Elinalise starts dating Cliff. *He finally meets the special student, Nanahoshi Shizuka, who was a companion with Orsted in Turning Point 2, and finds out that she’s from his world and trying to get back. He also discovers that she unintentionally caused the Teleportation Incident when she came to this world. She does not age nor does she have any mana (every living being in this world has mana). She mentioned that she’s consulting with an “expert on Teleportation” to help her get back. Rudy helps her with experiments. The Demon King Badigadi arrives in Sharia, looking for Rudy. He heard about her from his fiancé, Kishirika (who gives the eye to Rudy). As we see in this episode, Rudy beats him with one spell and becomes feared throughout the school and known as the greatest mage within the Academy. Rudy eventually figures out Fitz is Sylphie and sleeps with her, curing his ED. They then get married and Rudeus swears to Ariel’s cause because of Sylphie. Rudy gets a home, which was haunted by a murder doll robot thing. This house belonged to the Mad Dragon King Chaos (a very minor character who’s long dead by the time the series starts), of the same race as Orsted and Perugius. Zanoba dedicated himself to studying the doll. Rudy fixes up the home and they have a wedding reception where it’s revealed that Elinalise is the grandmother of Sylphie. Nanahoshi breaks down after failing an experiment and Rudy and co come up with solutions to help her. Norn and Aisha arrive with Ruijerd who explains that Rudy may have misunderstood Eris. Ruijerd encounters Badigadi, who knew him from the Laplace War, and hates him because of how he killed his own allies. They reconcile and go away together (seen at the end of the last episode of season 2). Norn and Rudy reconcile after Norn stops attending class. *Turning Point 3* - Sylphie is pregnant! Geese sends a letter saying that Zenith’s rescue is difficult and Rudy has to choose between going all the way to Begaritt (see map - the southernmost continent). He chooses to go. Nanahoshi gives him the location of a Teleportation Circle, which she used with Orsted to get around the world - forbidden by all nations because of the military consequences. He meets up with Paul’s group and tells his dad he’s going to be a father himself. Geese says that Zenith had been spotted in the labyrinth before by other adventurers. Rudy gives them as much information as he can about the Teleporter Labyrinth, a labyrinth so infamous that there’s books written on it, one of which he borrowed from the Academy. Rudy rescues Roxy from the labyrinth. Roxy develops feelings for him. Rudy helps them get to the final floor, which nobody has been to before and battles a Manatite Hydra which absorbs mana with its scales. Paul dies saving Rudy and they free Zenith. Paul’s body is cremated in the labyrinth as the mana in the labyrinth could turn him into an undead monster. Zenith’s mind is lost/shattered/wiped (whatever you wanna call it) and Rudy sinks into a depression. Roxy saves him by sleeping with him. He decides to marry Roxy when he’s back home and gets Sylphie’s blessing after Norn loses her mind over it. Sylphie and Rudy have their first child - a girl called Lucy Greyrat (sometimes spelt Lucie) - a combination of Rudy and Sylphie (the Japanese say their Rs and Ls in the same way). Rudy regularly visits Paul’s grave and sees him as his father, which is more than he did in his past life. Eris is training (what we’ve been seeing this episode and last episode) whilst all this is happening. Sorry for the long summary but that should be it for a complete summary of Mushoku Tensei seasons 1 and 2. If it’s okay with you, I’d like to briefly summarise the history next episode as it’s going to be very important this season. I’m not sure how the anime is going to tackle it as they’ve not really gone over it when Rudy learn the history when tutoring Eris in Fittoa. So, if it’s okay with you, I’ll give you the history next episode (without spoilers, as the novel readers would’ve already known the written history by this point), so that you’re prepared for season 3 unless you ask me not to.

Why not green hair? Slyphie also had green hair.

Kindyh Bordat

Isn't water god stronger than sword god? And isn't North god stronger than both? (Well it's more understandable since nobody know where he is)

Mario Prime Plays

Boxing mention I gotta bring up Hajime no Ippo. Legendary boxing anime from the early 90's that I 100% recommend. Just like Haikyu it dives deeply into the sport, arguably more deeply too.

Ryne

The novels do expand on these more, naturally. Eris being willing to discuss things with Nina and Isolde after their training is because it reminds her of when Rudeus would discuss things with her and Ruijerd after missions. And generally speaking, Sword God counters North God, North God counters Water God, and Water God counters Sword God. Sword God is straight forward, making it strong against a sword style based around tricks but weak against one based around counter attacks. The tricks that make North God weak to Sword God actually make it hard to counter.

Dragons like Bananas

Current world rankings have north God above Water God and sword God above both (sword>north>water) It would take all of them fighting to see if anything has changed. However seeing how the Reida describes Gal as the only person capable of getting past her defense and how sword style has a natural advantage on North style I'd say the ranking is probably accurate.

Billbob

I just find it funny that Nina actually paid an informant/investigator for this. Dude mustve been happy with the easiest paycheck ever, "so you want me to look into rudeus? you mean that guy thats extremely famous and well known up here in the north? alright then." And its kinda implied from the constant snow and all, but the world map in the novels shows that the Sword God's dojo is also in the far north just like the magic city + not-hogwarts that Rudy is at. Think its only like a couple weeks travel so this whole time Eris and Rudy have been so close to eachother without knowing it

Renden

Good summary, you clearly and concisely hit the major story points of basically the last whole season. Side note, I hate it when my house is haunted by a murder doll robot thing 😂

KingKuto

I'm pretty sure Mad Dog was Eris nickname when she was part of Dead End adventure group Kennel Master Rudeas, Gaurd Dog Ruijerd and Mad Dog Eris

Fabien

I think it's possible you underestimate just how strong king ranks are supposed to be. It takes a lot of talent and hard work to reach that relatively rare rank. I mean, Gislaine is strong.

Zak

Where Nina/ Eris are actually isn’t that far away from the university. It is half day to a day of travel on horseback. Also while it may be surprising that Eris is willing to have a meeting at first, it is actually not that shocking as we knew she used to have regular team meetings during her time in Dead End with Rudy and Ruijerd.

Gelondil

Don't forget to post this on the anime nominations as well, if you haven't already! It probably won't make the cut , but still worth getting a shout out for it.

Temojikato

Do you think all blondes are related IRL?? :p

Rostislav

08:49 I'm not going to blame you—we did see her in Season 2, but we didn't realize who she was because it was all from Rudeus's perspective. It's cool to have different perspectives on the same events.

Rostislav

30:05 30:05 I've read some wild stories about how some women figured out that their husbands were cheating on them; I can easily believe it 😂 For example, there was this girl who set up and ran an Instagram flower shop for a long time, configuring her ad targeting just to catch her boyfriend ordering flowers from her for his side chick...

protra

It's 6 weeks of horseback riding one way. Not that far away relatively speaking.

protra

How I imagine Eris' reunion with Rudeus goes: Eris: Rudeus! I've studied the blade all these years I've been away and am now ready to help you fight Orsted. Rudeus: Orsted? That guys crazy strong, why on earth would I fight him!? I have a family to protect now. Anyway, why did you pump and dump me all those years ago? It probably won't play out that way, but it's funny to think about how deep the misunderstanding between them are.

Brady

I think the reason Sword God wasn't fully pleased at the end because he wanted the three to become rivals and Eris to keep her wildness. First episode he said Ghislaine isn't an emperor yet because she became tame and now his plan backfired and tamed Eris as well. But she did improve because of it so he reluctantly agreed with them that it was good.

Sergey (Horn)

Rankings of the characters we've already met, without spoilers: - Beginner/Elementary - Luke Notos Greyrat Beginner of Water God Style. Eris Boreas Greyrat and Ghislaine is Fire Elementary Mage rank. - Intermediate - Luke Notos Greyrat is Intermediate of Sword God Style. - Advanced - Paul mastered all three sword styles to an Advanced level. Cliff Grimoire, when he first met Rudeus in Season 2, had advanced rank in all forms of magic except barrier magic. - Saint - Roxy was the Water Saint Mage when she first met Rudy. Gallus Cleaner, leading the slave traders during the battle in the Great Forest, he held the rank of North Saint in the North God Style. - King - Roxy is Water King Mage rank. Ghislaine is Sword King in the Sword God Style. - Emperor - "Peacock Sword" Auber is North Saint in the Noth God Style. Ruijerd (approximate strength based on indirect evidence). Rudeus, according to Badigadi, during the battle with him, had the power of an Emperor level, despite using a "regular" rock bullet (Stone Cannon spell). - God - Orsted

Zak

Hey guys. Thanks for the reaction. Just a heads up both the ED and it’s lyrics for ep3 would be safe to react to.

Zak

Not sure why I remembered the time completely wrong. Maybe I just saw the map and remembered how close they are in the map lol.

TheSlothSmile

Yes, and in this show there's actually precedence of hair color because anime... being related

TheSlothSmile

I'm so glad there's a new season now I love this show and its arcs, also the new characters are so well written also ED should be safe to watch the season also comes in 2 parts at a time so 1-2 3-4 are related fyi also nina has said they talk but she just doesn't get answers because of what wes talked about he doesn't just give her answers because shes harder on her cause that's also how she learns and is on equal footing

Wes And Steph

Good point on sylphie! But we were thinking Superd

Nyctophobiasm

Your analysis of the rock-paper-scissors matchup, while I didn't understand the more intricate parts of your explanation, seemed to be SPOT ON. I'd also like to add that in combat sports, a flow state can show itself in so many different ways, and it shows in Eris through her animosity, and that's part of why it was so difficult to "train" that because it went against her natural flow

Nyctophobiasm

On a separate note, a fight between 2 Water God practitioners sounds like it would be extremely boring.

Nyctophobiasm

Another thing to add on is that the Sword Sanctuary isn't actually that far from Sharia. The mountains, the cold, and the monsters are the only thing that may make the trip difficult
