God I so wanna talk about the 3 previous holy grail wars.. what I can say is that for the third one is that it happened at an interesting time period (1990s for fate/zero - 60 years = ??? - what happened in the world during that period? ) and that the role of an overseer exists because of how it went (apparently you need rules in wars nowadays.. smh) I can't talk about the first one since I feel like I'll spoil a Fate/Stay Night thing..

Lucas Pinheiro

Illiya is 18 - shes older than Shirou and rin, they are both 17 - remember - she was 8 years old when the last grail war started - first scene in Fate zero was the day she was born 8 years befor the war started - soo if 10 years passed ... 18

NECOdes

There was few "explainations" comments in the previous reaction which were borderline spoilery. Pls don't explain things that will be explained later in the show. Keep them for HF movies where they matter the most.

Zak

ilya is 18

Ein Diskent

It is "Enkidu" not "Eniki" haha but it is great that you keep bringing it up

MahnTinz

Just to clarify.....when they say berserker can fight all the other 6 masters at once, they mean in raw power, like a full on brawl.....it doesnt mean hes the strongest servent......its the same way you would argue archer will 1 v 6 the other servants in a range battle.

NECOdes

not Wes suggesting beating a kid XD

Wanted to add some context to stuff that I don't think is super clear in the anime, but is explained at this point in the Visual Novel. A mages ability is directly related to the amount and quality of their magic circuits. The amount of magic circuits someone has is something they're born with. Mages recognize this and specifically seek out partners with the intention of maximizing the amount of magic circuits their children will be born with. The reason long lineages of mage families are stronger is because they've practiced this form of mage eugenics to create children with the most potential possible. Some circuits are better suited for specific types of magecraft, so someone with an aptitude for jewel magecraft might not be as effective at elemental manipulation. Magic circuits also get stronger the more you train them, so a mage that practices the same spell over and over will be more efficient at casting it, but that lifetime of effort can't be inherited, so mages instead manifest their circuits into a magic crest and pass that on to their children when they die. Kirei transplanted Tokiomis crest to Rin at the end of Fate/Zero. This crest is the combination of previous crest holders circuits grafted onto each other over time. This is the reason orthodox mages like Tokiomi saw Kariya rejecting his duty as a mage as so unthinkable, because it means discarding generations of effort. The crest is only passed on to one person, while I think you could concievebly partition it for multiple children, mages want to maximize for the most powerful inheritor possible. This is why Tokiomi saw the Matous offer to adopt Sakura as a good opportunity, it would mean both his daughters would inherit an established magic crest. Normal people with no mage lineage could potentially have no magic circuits. You can kind of get around this by using your nerves as magic circuits but because they aren't built for this, the output likely ends up weak or fails entirely, and you risk causing damage to your body. This is what Shirou has been doing in the past couple of episodes which is why you seem him struggle and wince in pain when attempting to do stuff. The fortification on the poster in the fight against Lancer was actually the first time he successfully fortified something.

Going to paste some of the explainers I gave in your fate zero finale which will help get you up to speed because the Grail is never properly explained. I'll modify it a bit for your updated context. Mythological Angra Mainyu: It comes from Zoroastrianism, and (with a lot of asterisks) could be considered an older concept of 'the devil', the enemy of god. It is the spirit of evil and polar opposite of 'Spenta Mainyu' the spirit of goodness which maps somewhat to the Abrahamic holy spirit. The Fate interpretation of this is heavily distorted, similar to how characters like Artoria being very different to our expectations to highlight a specific interpretation of their character, ideal or story. I am not explaining the Fate version of this as there are some more opportunities to learn about it in Heaven's Feel. Previous Grail Wars: The first war was flawed because they couldn't control the spirits and had no means of accessing the greater grail. The second one failed because everyone focused on assassinating masters so the grail never filled. The third is unclear on specifics, but essentially thats when the corruption happened and Angra Mainyu entered it. Why did Kiritsugu win? What happened with Kirei? They both reached the grail at the same time, kiritsugu meets the definition of an 'anti-hero' which is similar to Angra Mainyu's 'Avenger' class. He was the preferred vessel. Kirei was chosen mostly out of spite against kiritsugu for rejecting the grail. The end was a partially realised grail. I'll add from this video that Artoria doesn't dematerialise in Fate Zero either...Unfortunately the reason isn't explained, though it's vaguely implied in F/Z and F/SN so I'd rather see if you figure it out.

The Anime Dude

I know we recommended to watch Fate Zero first, and I still think that’s the best way to watch it… but it is fun to think about how these stories are perceived based on the order, especially since this is an adaptation of the “original” story (AKA a route in the original Visual Novel). Everytime you guys have a reaction towards hating Kirei, just remember that if someone watched this first… they’d be none the wiser regarding his true nature, and they wouldn’t know Rin & Sakura are sisters, who Ilya is & why she calls Shiro brother, etc. Just fun to think about. P.S. Ilya do be short cuz she’s half homunculus, she’s very light weight wise too, but she’s 18 - 1 year older than Shiro, & sure enough… already twice as old as her mom ever was. R.I.P. Irisville. 😢

Kindyh Bordat

Seems like there is another gaz leak incident in this city. Authorities say it might have come from the bodies decomposition in the cemetery. 🤥

BananaPengu1n

As some1 going through Fate since this year - is one of the first 3 wars part of any animated show or is it VN only (if even)? Just a yes/no would suffice - I wanna be surprised since I wanna check out any Fate related anime there is anyway.

Ethereal

1st: No. 2nd: No. 3rd: Kinda.

Ethereal

As far as Onii-chan goes, little kids in Japan use it in a respectful way to unfamiliar young men (in their teens to twenties). It's like saying "Mister". Which is why it's not particularly suspicious when Illya says it, though obviously, we the audience, understand the double meaning.

Oscar Medina

So for Berserkers guys, keep in mind that while he is very tall, apart from Archer and Kotomine most of the cast right now is pretty short. He looks way more gigantic than he actually is. One final thing, there was a misunderstanding between the production and the original material. Archer's sword arrow actually did incredible damage to Berserker. That's why Illya praised him as being the most interesting Servant for her. There is commentary by the staff about how they mess up in portraying it.

mimiyowa

From what I understand 1 ended very quickly the first time they did it. Technically we see it "start" in heaven's feel, I don't know if there is much to animate. Also isn't there a timeline where the first never happened and it only happens later on in fuyuki and we see it and that's technically the first? maybe I'm misremembering..

mimiyowa

Wes is the first reactor I've seen for fate that knows about enkidu lol (maybe other than semblance of sanity but they probs know from somewhere else......)

HopelesslyImmersed

I love how you guys bounce ideas/ theories off each other in between scenes. You're both so wise with mythology. I know many still don't agree with you watching Zero first, but watching your reaction makes me happy you did 😁

mimiyowa

About Shirou being catpiss at magecraft and not knowing about the grail war.. I don't remember episodes 6 and 7 but apparently they explain it (I thought the anime skipped over it). "Show More" if you want to read but it's spoilery I don't think the anime covered this but Kiritsugu taught Shirou magecraft completely wrong. Jacob Jacobsen had a nice more detailed comment about magic circuits but essentially: When Shirou practices in his shed and talks about the excruciating pain, it is because he isn't using his natural Magic Circuits. Kiritsugu never taught him how to turn them on. Instead, Shirou is dangerously converting his actual physical nerves into temporary circuits every single time he tries to use magic, risking paralysis or death every night. Knowing what Kiritsugu went through in Zero, it is heavily implied he taught Shirou this highly inefficient, near-lethal method hoping the sheer agony would force him to quit and spare him from the Holy Grail wars.

mimiyowa

so many gas leaks... smh

KeanuofRivia

I SO wanna quote stuff from the Abridged version but I cant lol 🤣

Vicente Gómez

Fate reaction on my birthday?! Let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

The Anime Dude

I don’t know the history of the previous grail wars or anything, but speaking of the one from Fate/Zero… they proceeding to break like every “rule” they said their was at the start. 😭

Marek Pfeifer

I think you guys should avoid reading the comments or get someone to sort out the borderline spoilers some people post here.

Marcos cruz

The whole, you only need hero if there is evil on the other side, it's one of the main philosophical questions in the Fate, it's the whole yang and yin exist as a whole, and can't exist without the other, and yes Kirei twisted mind is using this to reel Shirou in, but he's not wrong lol

Fabien

Oh but Shirou is traumatized, just in a different way than Kiritsugu. It's just hinted in the anime but the Shinto fire of 10 years ago had a enormous impact on Shirou. He is the way he is now, because of that.

SolarPaul

Fun fact, the reason why this series feels so different from Fate Zero is because they have different writers. Nasu originally wrote Unlimited Blade Works as a visual novel and he writes these kind of magical fantasy high school action stories that are somewhat light hearted and aimed at teenagers whereas Urobuchi Gen is the writer for Fate Zero and he likes to write horror and tragedy and dramas aimed at a more adult audience. it's kinda like imagine if George RR Martin and George Lucas teamed up to make a show, that's why these 2 shows feel so different despite being two halves of the same story.

Kinx

Rin just felt bad Shirou wasted a command spell for her, that’s why she says she owed him.

Kinx

You can see throughout UBW a few hints from Zero, but no revelations in case people haven’t seen Zero yet

Fabien

Unlimited Blade Works isn't a visual novel, it's merely a route in a visual novel. The story Nasu wrote, Fate/stay night, was meant to be successively 3 routes, in narrative order: Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven's Feel. It's not the same appeal as Urobuchi, Nasu's strength was his sense of details and mystery. Each route laying the foundations for the next. But it's not really possible to understand his work with the animes, as it doesn't follow any order with most of the stuff missing.

Fabien

In the fate route (the first story, not properly adapted), Kirei really took pleasure playing with Shirou's mind and ideals. Especially the idea of the grail and what it would imply in practice. He loved Shirou's contradictions and torturing him with them.

Temojikato

Y'all GOTTA stop being surprised that Masters want to kill people x)

RCG

Ufotable was already cooking over 10 years ago. The fights are super flashy and the animation is amazing. I like it. I can't tell if Saber knows who Shirou is (I'm assuming she doesn't) but this will be such a different master/servant relationship expirience for her this time. Shirou is basically the total opposite of Kiritsugu, who killed without hesitation and used any means necessary to accomplish his goal. I instantly thought of Hercules when I saw Berserker but he doesn't really strike me as that wild/violent type of character, so it's probably not him. Also, Sakura has to be a Master, 100%. Gilgamesh potentially being a Master would be crazy, even though I don't really think he is one. From what I understand, he's just a normal human now, right? So I'm curious what his part in the story is.

RCG

That's actually a really interesting point about how much knowledge you do or don't have at this point.

Tatsuke44

Illya is 18, she is short due to something happen between in the interval time of last holy grail and the current holy grail. Wont spoiled what happened to her though.

Nikolai Ilushko

It's funny how they try to guess archer's identity and they are so wrong. To guess his identity you need to think literally out of the box 😅

Nikolai Ilushko

Enkidu not Aniki and archer is not him. We actually get to see him in Fate Strange Fake which is actually more similar to Fate Zero in spirit.

MahnTinz

Thanks, fixed it

AJisreal

Who is "Shiryu"? XD it's "Shir-oh"

Sum Ting Wong

It is Enkidu not Eniki, but glad you gave him a nickname lol, also till now, we only know arthuria (not even shirou knows yet), only 1 out of 7 names have been shown. This will be fun, peak reactions as always, waiting for next. Also, will you guys do more re:zero IF stories?, like wrath, greed and sloth, would really love if you did so

kinetic98

31:51 "Gil de ray" lol all the french viewers cringing hard. On par with Kariya = Korea, update: No way 46:20 lol that's kinda unintentionally hilarious lol, Wes apology video incoming

banlungx001

they gang just got hiroshima !!

banlungx001

maybe kirei cover-up team have a mage that can use a better version of waver "i am their grandson" magic too BUT on a wider area , so people CAN buy the gas leak everytime there s a servent fight LOL

banlungx001

this get reveal in like episode 6 or 7 , but it s a minor spoiler , so i guess its ok ?

banlungx001

they just got hiroshima !!

banlungx001

it s SO out of hands a long time ago , someone even mention shiro in fate zero episode 5 comment and still have the gall to tell me off LOL EVEN when that spoiler comment get a heart from wes/steph , so it means they already reading it.

banlungx001

people die when they are killed !!!!

banlungx001

can you remove the thrid wars detail? that s a spoiler from heaven feel 3

banlungx001

we all are fate fans and play fgo , too bad , MANY of us wants to show-off how much of an expert they are , in fate universe.

Here’s some non-spoiler flavor to address some things you guys talked about. The first three holy grail wars are not particularly notable and have little plot relevance. The first took place in 1810 and ended with no victor. The grail can only manifest for a certain period of time, and no one was able to claim it before time ran out. The second holy grail war took place in 1860. It was the first ritual to actually be called a “holy grail war”. There was no victor because it was a total bloodbath and everyone died. The third holy grail war took place in 1939 just prior to world war 2. Because of the violent and chaotic prior war, the Church participated for the first time to oversee and enforce rules for the conflict. The nazis and Japanese military got involved, some uhhhh other actually super spoilery insane stuff happened, and there was no victor because the vessel for the grail was destroyed. As for Saber’s inability to dematerialize aka go into spirit form. Saber is an exception as a heroic spirit. Because saber isn’t a spirit. She’s not dead. She’s actually alive. She made a deal with the world itself to try to win the grail and she’s basically looping through time until she wins or gives up. If she wins the grail, she will suffer a fate worse than death. And every time she doesn’t get the grail she’s sent back in time to a few moments right before she’s actually supposed to die, at which point she’ll be summoned to another grail war. In other words it’s a shit situation she got herself into lol.

Gavern

Personally to me, it's so excruciating every time they say something like "where's Gilgamesh?". I really wish they could have experienced the mystery of this show properly without spoilers. Glad they're enjoying it regardless.

Gavern

Why are you spoiling stuff that hasn't been explained in the show yet? Let them at least keep the little bit of mystery that is left in the show.

mimiyowa

they said they're longer than expected and they might do them if there is an opening/time but not every week.. so it's like.. surprise extra non-scheduled content !

mimiyowa

SPOILERS FOR FATE STRANGE FAKE GRRRRRRRRRRR

banlungx001

i doubt they ever get to watch fate fake after they finish heaven feel , but yep , spoiler

Fabien

Gavern - > Thank you, someone said it. But to be frank, Unlimited Blade Works wasn't meant to be the first story either, so sometimes it feels weird for some people to start with it (the story takes unexpected turns and put aside some characters because they had an important part in the first route, Fate). UBW is, in a way, a subversion of Fate. I really, really wish a proper anime version of Fate (not the old series by Deen, which is a butchered version putting bits of UBW in it) existed. So that people could finally experience the proper narrative order. UBW after Fate is really an incredible experience.

Fabien

The double-meaning was originally to tease the reader, until her actual link with Shirou was revealed (very late in the story, in the third route, Heaven's Feel). As the writer didn't consider the readers had seen Fate/zero beforehand, which didn't exist yet.

Fabien

Small correction: people starting UBW already know who Kirei is, UBW is the second route, Kirei is the main antagonist in the first route, Fate. UBW isn't a starting point (even if it's a better starting point than Zero...). That being said, that first discussion with Kirei is identical in the first route and the second route (UBW). So yeah it was really the first impressions of him. A very suspicious guy, but you'd NEVER imagine how cruel and sadistic he can be.

Fabien

Yeah, in the stats sheets you can see Berserker has the highest stats by far (the Berserker boost helps, but it's also because of his identity), EXCEPT noble phantasms. But noble phantasms are the most important part of a battle imho, it can make you win on its own. Idk if you know who it is so I won't tell Berserker's name, but that heroic spirit is special and could have been called in 5 classes: Saber, Archer, Lancer, Rider and Berserker. Berserker is a good class for him, but his most natural class would have been Archer. It has smaller stats than his berserker form but he would have been able to use his best noble phantasm with it, so in the end he would have been even stronger as an archer than as a berserker.

Fabien

BananaPengu1n -> No I don't think there is. At least not in the "proper" anime titles (Fate/stay night and Fate/zero). In the original titles, before the animes even existed, the third war (and maaaaany other things) were explained in Fate/hollow ataraxia. The sequel of Fate/stay night as a visual novel. But F/ha, due to the way it's played, can't really be adapted into an anime. The original Fate trilogy was: Fate/stay night, then Fate/hollow ataraxia, then Fate/zero. So there's no anime version explaining the third war as far as I know. It is a key war though, to understand the grail.

Fabien

"The first three holy grail wars are not particularly notable and have little plot relevance." Uuuuuh, the 3rd war is VERY important and key to understand why the grail is how it is now. I think you should edit and rephrase that sentence tbh. The third war is the core component of Fate/hollow ataraxia for a reason. You didn't mention those important spoilery stuff in your comment, but they exist. Even if, as it's never properly explained in the animes, they probably won't ever know anyway.

Runhua Tang

No Wes should keep saying Eniki because it's so damn funny lol.

mimiyowa

While there is no direct adaptation of the 3rd holy grail war; the "timeline" of the Fate story diverges based on what happens in it (I assume it's left vague on purpose). Here are three directions based on essentially what the nazis do (freaking nazis man..) is "Fate/Apocrypha" (there is an anime of this), Fate/hollow ataraxia (this is the same timeline as Fate/stay night, collapses Fate/stay night, Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works and Fate/stay night Heaven's Feel into a single timeline!) this is a visual novel the third scenario is "Fate/type Redline" a manga that I think is drawn by someone that worked on Demon Slayer ? not sure tbh.. This is the Fate/series though, Gigguk has a nice video on the timelines/nasuverse.. there is even one where Ilya is a magical girl or another one where the Fate/Stay Night characters never fight and become friends and cook together ! (cooking show).

mimiyowa

I hope they watch strange Fake.. my favorite tbh.. takes place in murica, insane animation, insane music (full sawano ost), really cool writing.. Hey if YaBoyRoshi et al. watched it then why not wes and steph. In fact I think they might like it more since it's a lot closer to Fate/Zero.. plus if they never get to watch Durarara! and Baccano then this is one way to experience that writer's style of story telling :> (I really really really really hope they watch it)

rryutie

Stoked for the double drop! 16:30 no worries at all, in fact, we're lucky you guys do go that extra length. That effort is SO appreciated. I love how wesley's brain works, all those rapid fire guesses were fun

Nikolai Ilushko

Sorry, I didn't consider that enkidu is in fate strange fake as a spoiler, my mistake. I feel like because they liked fate zero, fate strange fake is best fit. The issue is that to understand it fully you need to watch multiple things. It references fate hollow atraxia, Lord el meloi II, fate zero, fsn and even fate grand order. Maybe even somehow Fate Apocrypha. I like durara and I like the writing in fate strange fake. I heard about long before the anime. And I'm so glad that it finally got adapted. I really hope they watch it and fate carnival phantasm 🤣

banlungx001

yeah , that happen a lot.

del

I’m not rephrasing anything. Relax lol

Matthew Wise

@banlungx001 Removed the bit about the summoning good and evil heroes since 3rd war, I don't believe that is explained in HF, but if you think it's iffy i don't mind taking it out. I kept the bit about the corruption because that was already explained directly in F/Z ending. @Gavern None of the above is explained in show.

mimiyowa

I just looked at Fate servant stats and yeah Berserker is like : Strength: A+ Endurance: A Agility: A Magic:A Luck: B Noble Phantasm: A (+ another stat): A Compared to like, Arthuria Pendragon's Bs (except for luck and noble phantasm).. I see why Tohsaka was scared of Berserker the moment she saw the stats lol

mimiyowa

ngl I agree it's funny, It sounds like he's trying to say aniki (big bro)... same with the "sperd" being called "Super D" bahaha

kipp3 3

Agreed. Honestly, some of you need to keep certain things to yourselves.

banlungx001

The 3rd war is being told to us in heaven feel 3 by a certain character , also , this is all the effort i am going to make toward trying to stop your spoiler , so you do you.

D. L. Pulver

Oddly enough, a famous archer was Hercules, who often fought with a bow (e.g., against the stymphalian birds, etc.). Also Teucer (the greatest Greek archer in the Trojan War, famous for working with the shield of his brother Ajax) and Odysseus (remember his great bow that he used to shoot the suiters). Also, from India, Arjuna...

D. L. Pulver

It was nice to see Ilya using the same silver bird magic familiars that her mother used, only twice as many of them.

kinetic98

57:05 lol "He's gotta be Gilgamesh's homie Aniki", Aniki means older brother in japanese lol did you mean Enkidu

monsters2312

Kirei always really gives me Roswaal vibes just fishing for things to manipulate people. I love both characters lol.

mimiyowa

My bad, it's been a while since I've seen UBW so I thought it was glossed over. Patreon should really add spoiler tags but instead we have 5 different versions of "community chat" and still can't select quality in video players (even though it's a feature of Mux which they use..).

Rostislav

This all really does seem strange because the viewing order was wrong; we were supposed to watch UBW—the kids' battle—first, and then their parents' battles would have made an even stronger impression. Zero was made to complement UBW.

CT

Hate to nitpick when u guys r so far in, I finally binged & just caught up.😅 But is kirei pronounced key-ray, not key-ri? For a good chunk of fate/zero I keep mixing it up with kiritsugu bc their names r so similar 😂😅

banlungx001

if a guy who just throw his melee weapon like gil can be an archer servant , anyone who remotely throw anything can be 1 too at this point XD

Wren

I love the people in the comments who have absolutely zero self-control when it comes to spoilers... It's almost funny. You even get people saying, "Character X is the way she is because something happened to her between Y and Z... but I won't say what because that would be a spoiler." How hard is it to understand that even mentioning *that* is already a spoiler??? Can people just stop? It's so easy *not* to spoil things.

Linus Pettersson

Great reaction and discussion, I was a little scared when you forgot to swap players, but then you did lol, phew. Keep watching on it, and watch on that player for the three movies too, even those subtitles are much better than crunchyroll, (not to mention Chrunchrolls mistranslations).👍

Linus Pettersson

Since you guys didn't watch the prologue on the other player here is the conversation they cut where Rin and Archer went around the city. Rin: “This is the Shinto park. We’ve covered the most important places. What do you think?” Archer: “This is a large park. Is there some particular reason why it’s so deserted?” Rin: “You noticed that too, huh? It’s because this place has a bit of a history. It happened ten years ago. They say this whole area was swallowed up by a huge fire. The town was rebuilt afterward, but for some reason this area was left behind as it was. They apparently made it into a park because there was nothing but burnt-out ruins here.” Archer: “*hmm*” Rin: “Sounds like you’ve figured it out. Yes, this is where the final battle of the last Grail War was fought. The War ended here, and it’s been empty ever since.” Archer: “I see. That explains why this place is so filled with malice.” Rin: “*Hmm*. You can sense that kind of thing?” Archer: “Servants are non-corporeal. Our state of being is similar to grudges or obsession. That leaves us sensitive to regrets in that same vein. This place in particular is special. From our perspective, it’s almost what we would call a Reality Marble.” Rin: “* hmm?*” Archer: “Rin? What is it?” Rin: “*uh*. You caught me off guard, that’s all. I was amazed that an archer like you would know about things like Reality Marbles.” Archer: “What, you find it odd that I know such things?” Rin: “Why wouldn’t I? Among mages, a Reality Marble is a taboo among taboos. The most secret of secret arts. You wouldn’t expect an archer to know about them.” Archer: “*ugh*. Rin, ‘Heroic Spirit’ refers to one skilled in both the martial and magical arts. You’re free to think that I can only use a bow because I’m an archer, but pleasee don’t take that simplistic view with the other Servants.” Rin: “*mhm*. F-Fine. You’ve made your point. I spoke without thinking. I’ll be more careful from now on. Happy now?” Archer: “Rin, let me be frank. You are gifted, but as a result of that, you have a tendency to belittle others. Correct that bad habit before you grow up.” Rin: “‘C-Correct that habit’?! You say the rudest things as if they were nothing!” Archer: “My apologies. But it’s not as if I had called you an unruly tomboy. I merely used the expression that seemed to best fit what I saw.” Rin: “*eh* That only makes it worse! *ah*” Archer: “Rin?” Rin: “Hush, Archer. My Command Spells are reacting to something. I’m certain. We’re being watched from somewhere nearby. I won’t be able to find them. How about you, Archer?” Archer: “It’s difficult. I can’t even sense anyone’s eyes on us.” Rin: “Which means we’re being watched by a master.” Archer: “This is bad. Have we been walking around with a bullseye on our back?” Rin: “Probably. Still, it saves us the trouble of going out to look for them.” *Cut to them being on the roof in the city*

Erik

Did anyone also mention that Kiritsugu didn't speak to saber not even once? Only with the command spells and everything else was just indirectly to saber, speaking to irisviel instead of saber.

banlungx001

as long as we only count anime , this is the order most people watch fate since it s by the order it was made , the visual novel and fate zero novel can hardly be count as "watching"

banlungx001

saber herself sum that up in her last line after blasting the grail in fate 0

banlungx001

they just cant help themselve , they want to show off so BADLY how much of a professor they are in nasuverse-tology

banlungx001

that always bother me too , everytime wes meant to say kirei name , he always say "kiri" which to us , sound more closely to kiritsugu , so confusing.

Rostislav

Unless you count the remake, the original anime was released before *Fate/Zero*. And even if you think about it logically, the author of *UBW* crafted the story as if the viewer hadn’t yet seen *Zero* (because it didn’t exist at the time); he included secrets and revelations that were actually spoilers in *Zero*. Zero, on the other hand, was created by the author with the knowledge that a sequel existed; therefore, the events are presented as though we already know about them. We’re deliberately led by the hand along the edge, because we’re aware of the events but lack the details, and we’re constantly anticipating the ‘big reveal’. This approach enhances both anime at the same time, as we experience the story through a child’s perspective as they explore the world – it’s all new to us – and then we’re thrown into the grim past of *Zero*, where snipers kill mages, creating an element of surprise. All serious guides also recommend watching *UBW* first. My favourite part is Zero because I watched UBW first; it’s a shame they missed out on that opportunity and now seem confusing due to the incorrect viewing order, but there’s nothing we can do about it now.

banlungx001

well , i intetionally DIDNT count deen MIX route anime and the super short-condense ubw movie XD

Ima

I don't know if someone already mentioned this, but the magic Illya uses is the same Iri used in fate/zero

Vedhon

Im probably gonna sound a bit bitching about it but I gotta share that as i just caught up with you guys watching this series but you should throw away the understanding of saber you got from zero because its very inconsistent with the previously established charaters saber especially is very out of character in it(Zero is written by a different writer Gen Urobutchi instead of the original Kinoko Nasu) my second pick would be kirei bt he is miles better than her anyway. My opinion of zero was always that it's a good storybut at the end of the day its a prequel and as a prequel it's bad. Even the writer of zero himself admits he failed with saber. Now I could also point out Kirei's inconsistencies but that can wait for heaven's feel, so I'm just gonna point out a few things I remember from the top of my head. Now the change in demeanor could be explained with character development from the previous war but that's actually only a surface level understanding from people who most likely skipped the fate route and other supplementary material. So for example in the fate retelling of arthurian legends we know saber was perfectly capable of even burning down villages for a tactical advantage, so her central conflic with kiritsugu makes her seem as a hypocrite cause she herself participated in and understood the idea of making sacrifices. Her whole thing with lancer and the obsession with honor and chivalry was not something she really had for multiple reasons. Now you are skipping fate route so i feel comfortable telling those because those are just things you don't learn otherwise but if you change your mind and want to watch the fate route(really the deen adaptation is not as bad as people say i think a lot of them are just repeating what gigguk said without watching it, I for one liked it when i did see it) you can just no read the rest from this point on. Continuing on with lancer we know saber just absolutely hates fighting and doesnt take any joy in it and only ever picked up her sword due to her sense of duty. For some reason the author wanted really hard to make something major for saber cause he just changed it pretty majorly, honestly before your reaction i actually havent watched zero in a while so its a complaint I only got after watching you guys, but her wish for the grail was to change history but its not made clear whether she wants to still exist as a king in history and only seems to have made her resolution after fighting lancelot. In the fate route she made a deal with the world to get the grail specifically so she can change her decision to become a king, so she was resolved to do that and desperate to get the grail even before the 4th holy grail war started. This is also the reason she remembers her previous summoning and can't change into spirit form unlike the other servants cause she is technically frozen in time right after her final battle so technically still alive in a way) Now in the banquet of kings she was really led around by Rider and Gil, but she actually has a pretty big no nonsense attitude with a lot of bite back about her views and wishes. In fact she even beats down shirou verbally for trying to change her mind. Now I could probably find more stuff but this is all I can think of from the top of my head, so for one final thing just know that fate/zero was inconsistent enought with fsn that Big Nasu himself removed it from the fsn timeline, so its actually an alternate timeline that didnt happen in fsn. Instead being just a war with the same characters and same circumstances but different events.

Holy Arathi

Wes is so funny. Naming of all of both giants from history. :) I thought he could be a mad Elendil the tall. Elendil was said to be about 8 feet tall and ridiculously strong.

Somebody please tell him how to pronounce enkidu so he stops saying eniki🥀

TheEnd187

He also said Eniki during Fate Zero then he found out it was Enkidu in the next upload, I wonder why he went back to Eniki

Using Zero as a template is not good.

39:52 "Any other famous archers that used a bow?" This statement is kinda funny out of context.
