Fun Fact: King Perugius Dola has the same voice actor of Emiya Kiritsugu from Fate Zero and Ging Freecs from Hunter x Hunter.

Lucjusz Kusiński

Sylphie decided that Nanahoshi will not be the next Rudeus wife.

Ryne

Your observations on the mural are interesting. The anime will likely never fully explain it, as it tells the story of "Old Dragon's Tale", a prequel story to Mushoku Tensei. Your guesses were frighteningly on the mark though.

Zak

(this comment is a joke) 32:00 4k footage of Sylphie intentionally murdering Nanahoshi.

Zachary Fewins

You guys did a better job than I expected of examining the mural! It is depicting a very important piece of the history of the world. Another thing I wanted to say is that race titles like king and emperor are a lot less concretely about power than swordsmanship or magic titles are. They still exist particularly for demons and dragons. As far as I know they’re a lot more about ancestry and societal standing than they are about strength. The dragon race seem to work on a system with a certain number of seats for kings(armored dragon king, chaos dragon king, etc.) and they can pass their titles on to a successor. For demons it seems that the more ancient demons have higher titles and so do demons who own territory. Badigadi is a demon king and Kishirika is the only demon emperor as far as I know. The god title doesn’t seem to be passed on through most races, but when it is it seems to indicate the strongest of the entire race just like how being north god, water god, or sword god would indicate you are the strongest of that school.

Zachary Fewins

The god title might also hold more significance sometimes, as there are actual gods like Hitogami.

I loved how you guys were inspecting the mural. You guys do it the best

The Anime Dude

1 Note for Elinalise: she at least mentioned it during the rescue of Zenith when they were wondering if she was even alive in there. (Prior to going back to fight the hydra.) But, she did the ole “I know someone who had something similar happen to them, and…” shtick. Note on the Food: they didn’t teleport the food by itself, they basically sent Almanfi as an errand boy to go get it. I would assume he paid for it instead of stealing, but I guess that isn’t specified. 😭

The Anime Dude

Dang, I can’t believe Sylphie would do this… R.I.P. Nanahoshi, shouldn’t have flirted with her man. 😤

Another example of how peak Mushoku Tensei is. So happy to see the GOAT Perugius again, top 5 racist character of all time. Amazing worldbuilding and lore. That said, the adaptation was... not the best. Still a really good episode and animation, but the LN version of the audience has way more going on: The teleportation shakes Rudeus because it reminds him of the Fittoa mass teleportation, just less brutal. The anime plays it like a routine warp. Rudy doesn't stay standing out of confusion either. Perugius's aura reminds him of Orsted and he freezes mid threat-assessment, clocking that all 12 familiars are elite-tier (At least king rank). Everyone else is ALREADY in position: Sylphie and Luke kneeling as retainers, Zanoba kneeling by choice, Ariel curtsying as royalty, Nanahoshi just bowing as an acquaintance. He also keeps preemptively activating his Eyes of Foresight because he's lowkey terrified of getting jumped XD The Orsted warning has a whole extra layer too. Perugius heard Rudy INJURED Orsted and assumes he fought him as an equal, so he warns him not to get cocky ("don't even think you stand a chance against me"). Meanwhile Rudy, who got folded and survived by pure luck, is in maximum "trust me, I do NOT want the fade" mode. And Perugius is way harsher with Ariel because he despises her courtly fakeness (Luke wanted to interfere but everyone know he's a bum), while he genuinely warms up to Rudy (He doesn't hate him like what you guys think) and Zanoba. Zanoba's unfiltered passion for figures reminded him of his friend and it wins him over instantly. Ps : Mushoku Tensei world as a name, link it with the mural.

Kindyh Bordat

Sylphie finally did it, she got reed of the only competition she deemed unacceptable.

mimiyowa

Damn Sylphie really hated Nanahoshi huh \j

Akurogi Musai

Perugius was much much harsh to Ariel en the Light Novel “I know who you are. You’re the princess who lost her right to the throne, yet refuses to give up. And now you’re dragging everyone around you into the swamp… Stupid girl.”

Kindyh Bordat

So nobody is mentioning the grey rats in the cave ? (Get it ? Greyrats XD)

Kindyh Bordat

Me when i lie she did it on purpose, everyone knows it.

mimiyowa

Mhmmm, damn my memories of the LN have faded away a bit since I binged it all but yeah the vibe was a bit different !! you're right

Fabien

Yeah especially for anime watchers, the title "god" in Mushoku Tensei is very confusing. There are those named gods only because they've reached the peak of their fighting discipline: the sword god, the water god, the north god... I'm unsure about Orsted (I only read the novel up to a point), but it seems to be a title for him. And then, there's the human god, for sure this one is really a god in the strict sense of the term, in my opinion.

Zen

I think it's safe to say that Wes' guess on it being Orsted's origin story was right lmao.

Ryne

Solid summary of how things played out in the novels. I don't mind how the anime handled it, but it wasn’t adapted well.

Claudio Castro

That's right Orsted is a god only in title, I won't say anything more about his origin to not spoil other people but you're on track

Oasis

Guys this is episode 8, not episode 7. Just to let you know :)

Oasis

I'm afraid the main story of Mushoku Tensei doesn't really give you the answers to the murals and everything. Mushoku Tensei is, after all, a prequel series to the main story the author has not yet written yet, so a lot of things in this series will go unanswered. There's also a few prequel series which aren't animated (yet), like the Old Dragon's Tale which give some answers but they contain heavy spoilers for Mushoku Tensei. Reminder of the rankings: ...Saint -> King (Perugius is a Dragon King) -> Emperor -> God (Orsted is the Dragon God). These titles can be inherited. It's well-known in the story that there was a Dragon God before Orsted.

Rostislav

@Zen If you confirm or refute theories, that's a spoiler. Especially since this will be explained later

Rostislav

I read this quite a while ago, but I realized right away that a lot had been left out. I don't like that they condensed everything so much, but overall it's tolerable—what you described was portrayed one way or another. This always happens with adaptations of light novels. Even in the first season, which everyone loves, a lot was cut out. You have to make sacrifices for the sake of people who haven't read the original source material.

blood_drac

I thought this episode was great but they did skip some cool dialogue and worldbuilding. I feel like this episode is richer if you know the things below. I am going to share some dialogue from the light novel chapters covered in this episode. There won't be any spoilers since this episode is based on the light novel chapters I am going to summarize. 1. The Arch - Sylvaril tells the group that it was built by Abyssal Dragon King Maxwell. Maxwell had a talent for magical construction and craftsmanship. She tells them that one of his other creations in addition to the giant arch is the White Palace of the Holy Country of Millis (Cliff's home country where we met Paul again in season 1). 2. Perugius addresses Rudeus - Perugius says to him that normally you can't teleport someone with mana greater than your own. This is why Perugius had difficulty teleporting him. He also was wary of Rudeus because he was aware that Rudeus hurt Orsted and thought that Rudeus might get cocky and try to challenge him as well. Perugius told Rudeus that if he tries to fight him, death is all that awaits and then his followers radiated their bloodlust. This is captured somewhat in the audience scene. 3. Perugius' labyrinth theory - Perugius theorizes to the group that labyrinths were created by ancient demons as a way to create paradise for themselves. The magical crystals at the center of the labyrinths distribute mana to all inhabitants of the labyrinth so that the inhabitants and creatures can go on forever without going hungry. 4. The crests on the walls - There were a number of crests in the audience room of Perugius and Rudeus recognized several of them. One of them belongs to one of the Seven Great Powers, another belongs to Orsted, another belongs to Holy Dragon Emperor Szilard which Rudeus knew because it was the same crest etched into the magical implement used to hide the teleportation circles he and Elinalise used to get to Begaritt, and another crest was the emblem on the book Zanoba brought which belonged to Maniacal Dragon King Kaos 5. Rudeus recalls the crests - Rudeus recalls he didn't recognize the titles Abyssal Dragon King and Maniacal Dragon King. He then recalls that they are part of the Five Dragon Generals way back in the mythical age. According to myth, they faced off in a battle with the Dragon God that claimed all of their lives. Rudeus then assures himself that the ones discussed earlier aren't the same ones from myth. The ones in the story were likely from many generations before the people who'd come up in conversation. Of the five, three got mentioned in their conversation: Abyssal Dragon King Maxwell, Maniacal Dragon King Kaos, Armored Dragon King Perugius. There was also the one from the hidden teleportation ruins incantation: Holy Dragon Emperor Szilard. That makes four, three Dragon Kings and one Dragon Emperor. There was supposed to be four Dragon Kings and one Dragon Emperor though. Rudeus saw only four crests on the wall resembling the Dragon God's crest and Rudeus wonders if the last Dragon King is on bad terms with Perugius. 6. Rudeus' thoughts after the audience with Perugius - Rudeus wanted Perugius to teach him summoning magic but thinks it is unlikely now due to his reception. He wonders to himself why Perugius was so hostile to him. He thinks if he asks Perugius will say "What? planning to summon Laplace with all that magic of yours?". Rudeus wonders if this is possible because Perugius said it is impossible to summon someone with more magic than your own. Rudeus ponders that since he has mana on par with Laplace, could he actually summon Laplace? He wonders if he could summon the Demon God if he built a sinister altar underground. Rudeus then says to himself that of course he wouldn't do that but understands Perugius' animosity towards him if that were true. 7. Sylvaril's summoning lesson - Sylvaril starts the lesson by asking Cliff what summoning magic is. Cliff says there's Bestowal which is used to create magical implements i.e the drawing of magic circles. The second type is Invocation which allows you to summon anything in existence. There are no professors in magic city Sharia who can perform this type. The Magic Guild has some but they were amateurs at best. Sylvaril replies and says this is incorrect. Bestowal aka drawing magic circles, is part of summoning but is not in itself a type of summoning. Sylvaril says the actual two types of summoning is Spirit summoning and Fiend summoning. Fiend summoning lets you summon a creature out there in the world. Sylvaril then says per an ancient covenant Anything considered to be a person cannot be summoned but everything else can be. Rudeus wonders why people can't be summoned and Sylvaril says that when summoning magic was created by our ancestors they made a covenant and magic cannot break that ancient convenant. Rudeus thinks to himself what the difference is between summoning someone and teleporting them. In Fiend summoning you cannot summon a creature with more mana than your own but if you can you probably wont be able to control it. Rudeus thinks he would have no trouble controlling anything he summons because of how big his mana pool is. Sylvaril then explains that Spirit summoning the second type involves creating a spirit from your own mana. Summoned (created) spirits are of low intellect and will obey the summoners orders until they disappear when the users mana runs out. Rudeus asks if this is an absolute and Sylvaril says no, a spirit of free will can be created if specified in the circle. Sylvaril says that Perugius' predecessor the first Armored Dragon King passed on the technique on how to create highly intelligent highly powerful spirits after Cliff asks how Perugius' familiars are still around 400 years after he created them. These high level spirits would normally last a day but Perugius invented a way to make them last as long as he is alive. Sylvaril also clarifies that the first Armored Dragon King developed the technique on creating 11 spirits, not 12. Sylvaril says she is not one of his spirits but a Skyfolk race who Perugius saved during the Laplace War and she has served him ever since. So Perugius has 11 familiars plus Sylvaril.

Tbf I dont think Perugius is some type of a dickish djinn to just go "oh nope, you used up your wish on a bad question Rudy so I wont do anything else for you." He really is a good guy despite the whole racism thing, if Rudy had some other request he wouldn't mind helping out there either but Rudy is pretty content with everything other than his mom's issue. Only other major thing I could see him asking about would be man-god but he wouldnt do that in public and he might still be too traumatized by the last time he talked to a dragon-person about his eccentric dreamworld friend Oh yeah, and regarding Elinalise's mana crystal creating I think that got left out of the anime adaptation during their travels to the labyrinth in last season. Basically rather than ovulating and producing eggs she usually just produces mana crystals fed by her curse which is why she doesnt have dozens of kids by now. And mana crystals can sell for decent money, so she has her own passive income as a result of this curse which is a weird benefit from this situation

Dennis Hsin

Zanoba is voiced by the same VA as Caster.

Billbob

Too busy fearing the rats to want to make a pun

Xan

Wesley's brain is too big for this show, he spoiled the whole plot from the murals.

Xan

No it is not this will not be explained, mots likely will be skipped.

Aaron Wright

I know you probably dont read old comments, but I always assumed Sylphie triggered the white man god arch thing is because Rudy is touched by the man god, and she carried Rudy's child, so has lingering touches of his 'essence' or mana inside her. Just my personal theory anyway
