Gilgamesh getting humbled is cathartic

Manuel

Hey guys, since next week you'll be watching episode 25 only, the last episode, I just wanted to make you aware that there is a 10 minute special episode called "Sunny Day" that's basically part of the anime, but as an alternate ending to episode 25 in case you are interested in checking that out.

Jonno

So one thing to remember is that Fate/Stay Night Visual Novel wasnt even the start of the Lore building because it itself was set in a universe that had its lore built up by other series, Fate was just the one that became a runaway success with its own spinoffs and the like, however little bits of lore from the previous stories do pop in Id recommend watching Kara No Kyokai (English name: Garden of Sinners) its kind of like a predeccessor story that sets up some things like Mages and their unique culture in this universe etc

Oscar Medina

So in the game Shirou makes an interesting observation about EA. To trace swords he takes in the materials, craftsmanship, and history of a weapon (normal projection is not this advanced). He managed to get bit of info on EA before it almost fried his brain. Mostly that Gilgamesh could just end the fight whenever he wanted, that it was a weapon that surpasses Excalibur, and that it was older than the concept of swords.

Mats Erik

As you already guessed, but spelled out simply and plainly: Shiro's "magic" as it was, isnt actually to create weapons, but rather the ability to store any weapon he has seen and can understand within his Reality Marble. Once a weapon has been stored, it can then be summoned/ materialized in the real world from the Reality Marble, which is why there is a delay on their creation. So as you deduced, when fighting within UBW there is no longer a need to materialize the weapons as they are already within UBW.

Sasaki kojiro is a fictional heroic spirit is the tip of the iceberg of what heroic spirits can be. There’s a heroic spirit named Nursery Rhyme. She’s the embodiment of children’s picture books. She’s also kinda terrifying. Van Gogh is also a servant. But really she’s 80% a Greek water nymph, 5% van gogh’s memories and talent, and 15% stuff thrown in by an evil alien god. Basically servants are the friends we made along the way.

brde

I agree to see that special episode. It's cure me..

Fabien

Saber with Rin as her master basically had the best stats of the series overall. Even without Excalibur she would have been of help for Shirou, but well she had another thing to do. But really, I wish we could have seen what a Arthuria-Rin vs Gilgamesh fight would have looked like (with Rin having to only supply Saber, thus, full power). It's probable Gilgamesh would have won since Saber doesn't have Avalon, but it would have been interesting.

Marek Pfeifer

Nah Archer simply survived Gilgamesh attack and just pretend he is dead. That's the offcial explanation.

C

People tend to think that this last battle of Shirou vs Gilgamesh is just a hype moment and aura shit. With no themes, also considered some kind of Deus Ex Machina. But it could not be further from the truth. First of all this battle is the culmination of what UBW represents and the themes, those being True vs Fake. UBW goes in deep on Shirou’s ideals and why those are fake because is not something he himself came to, but something he borrowed from Kiritsugu. Archer puts to test those convictions, ending in Shirou accepting the hypocrisy of his ideals and embracing once again that ideal as something that is not wrong and a thing he wants from the bottom of his heart. Gilgamesh is then the obstacle the story puts for Shirou that he most overcome in order to proof that those "fake" convictions can surpass the real thing. A right to exist basically. And the fight itself makes so much sense. Like, one would think Shirou (a human) could never defeat one of the strongest Heroic Spirits in existence. But the story, the foreshadowing and the execution make it so that it makes so much sense. First of all, Gilgamesh. Why is he so strong? Because he have Gate of Babylon. A Noble Phantasm that allows him to pull almost any weapon from human history. That means that he can counter any and every heroe. Is super broken, but that also means that if that same Gate of Babylon gets negated he doesn’t have anything in his favor. Then we have the second point. Why Gilgamesh didn’t just finished Shirou before he could negate GoB? And the answer is because he is an arrogant bum that thinks everyone is below him. So he never takes fights seriously. This arrogance is his downfall and is not just a convenient tool that pops up out of nowhere. Since it’s part of his characterization since his very first appareance. Shirou in all the ways is the perfect counter for Gilgamesh. An ability that can negate GoB and a human that Gilgamesh mocks. An since we saw how he has grown as a person and in strength over the series then it all makes sense. UBW (Fate/stay night in general) is just such a masterclass of how to create a story and how to convey its themes in a great way. Unfortunately my words cannot make justice to the great story that Kinoko Nasu (the author) created. Btw, there is an OVA of like 10 minutes called Sunny Day, this OVA is an adaptation of the another ending of the route UBW. As Fate/stay night was originally a Visual Novel the routes have various endings. So I recommend to watch it along with last episode next week. So last episode + Sunny Day. Have a good day then!

sperrfeuer

replying to this comment to help push the KnK agenda lol, hopefully they consider this idea

C

Agreed, after they're done with Fate/stay night they should jump to Kara no Kyoukai. Specially since it will help them understand more of the setting and a lot of concepts that are important for later entries.

Fabien

Honestly never understood why they cared about Shinji at the end of UBW. Even in the visual novel: sure we know more about him, he really is a childhood friend for Shirou (it's not just that it's Sakura's brother). But still, for me he's the worst human on Fate/stay night entirely, Kirei is just broken, crazy, and searching for a purpose. Shinji is just, Shinji, I don't even want to get started, I hated him so much, from the moment he laughed in front of Illya's corpse on. If that's any consolation, if my memory is right by the end of UBW in the vn it's said that Shinji changed and had a better relationship with Sakura (it's not mentioned in the anime). Well, that's only for the people who would give that guy a second chance lol.

Temojikato

I think the philosophy is that there is no difference between good and evil wishes, a wish is inherently greedy and thus a sin. A wish per definition means achieving or getting something you yourself did no effort towards. I've never heard a single person ever say Shinji doesn't deserve death btw x)

eXxCeZz

Crazy part is Ea is basically anti reality marble weapon, Gil could have pulled it as the first thing and just destroyed the reality marble and ended the fight there if he wanted to. I hope you guys react to the alternative ending next week. So basically you could watch 2 episodes next week. The final episode 25 and the alt ending which is like 10 minute long episode.

Big A

Soo one episode or 2 next week? :D

ByakkoByakuya

1 more episode until you finish UBW! I can't wait for you guys to start Heavens Feel! Source Readers will say it's the best route in the trilogy, and the movies does a pretty fair attempt of adapting it. Regardless, it's unironically one of the best entries in the franchise.

The Anime Dude

After or with the finale, would love y’all to react to the 10 minute special “Sunny Day” Then the Heaven’s Feel Movie Trilogy P.S. I still hate Shinji, prolly more than y’all do. All my homies hate Shinji.

Subarun

There is a Special left and episode 25, please watch them both! Special is called Sunny Day

ReCursed

It's not "soft core" i think 😅

ByakkoByakuya

Also there's an end credit scene at the end of next episode after the ED. You guys might miss it.

Dank Waifu

You guys are watching Fate Strange Fake after Heavensfeel right? You have to, its so good.

sm29

are they gonna watch strange/fake?

Vedhon

i kinda feel like mentioning i think it would be fun to react to that its back to fate zero, there is a short series of a few episodes(about a few minutes long) where irisviel and taiga do therapy for the servants who died in fate zero. its a call back to tiger dojo from the original visual novel of fsn where Taiga and Illya explain why shirou died if you make the wrong choices in a comedic way. I think it might be fun too see I think i watched those on youtube.

Caleb Martin

Yeah, although, Archer coming back as a guardian is a popular fan canon. Personally, I like that explanation better, because it feels like less of a cop out to me, but unfortunately, it’s not how guardians work, so it couldn’t happen

Fabien

Heaven's Feel is amazing, it will only be in 2 weeks but I'm already so looking forward. Keep in mind though, that it's just 3 movies of 2 hours each, thus they compressed a story originally as long as UBW (25h in the visual novel) in just 6 hours. So it may seem more rushed, but it's still veeery well made considering that constraint. And it's visually beyond beautiful. Also, Heaven's Feel is the part that Zero really spoiled, so try to forget as much as possible what you know from that lol.

Temojikato

Sometimes the author is wrong, and that's okay

Vedhon

it got butchered is what source readers would say

brde

When I first played this game, I had some guess as your guys: Archer was summoned again as a Guardian. But the official explanation is Archer faked his death, hid in the forest, and survived by draining small animals mana..

brde

Well I more like our theory~

Fabien

Technically, Ea is classified as anti-world, but I see what you mean. Even then, Gil didn't even need Ea imho, just to take the fight seriously from the start and to wear his armor (which gives him more defense). Even in the episode here, he woud have "won" (the fight, not his pride lol) if the Grail didn't absorb him at the very end. Gilgamesh is too cocky, that's his main weakness.

Temojikato

EP25 is the best shit ever created, aside from just Fate itself as a whole I guess, and it'll never be made into a real show - be prepared to feel that loss LOL

Devastating_Warrior

Archer switching from his usual "Rin" to the same "Tohsaka" as Shirou always uses right at the end, just too good man

Cinshadis

I have always thought that the Archer summoned in the 5th war was the version that resulted from the Fate Route, the first playthrough route, where Shirou gets with Saber. The Fate route focuses on Saber's story and concepts of chivalry. It's more of a classic hero's journey, and teaches you about the servants and masters, and the basic rules. But notably Shirou misses out on hanging out with Rin and getting her counterweight influence. UBW gives you much more info on things that were happening in the background of the Fate route, and of course has the big reveal about Archer's past. But Rin's influence in teaching him to love himself is what in my opinion gives Shirou the best shot at avoiding the cruelest versions of his future. Heaven's Feel, the Sakura Route, is an off-the-rails tale that dives into answers about where the grail came from and how it got corrupted. Once the timeline splits in that route, things get serious fast. Buckle up.

Ramms

Archer got his payback

eXxCeZz

Technically I never said ea is classified as a reality marble cracker, but i see what you mean.

Caleb Martin

Don’t worry, you hate Shinji even more after Heaven’s Feel. Genuinely, one of the worst people in fiction

Cinshadis

Good recommendation! I'm also a big fan of El-Melloi Case Files (Rail Zeppelin) - it's a non-grailwar story based around what happened to Waver Velvet after the 4th war, and what he's up to now, as a teacher at the Clocktower. Underrated series. And then you get to watch Fate/Strange Fake. :3 Which is SO GOOD. But the more Nasuverse you know before watching it, the better it gets.

Mario Prime Plays

Shinji forreal the Spandam of the fate verse lol. Rin needed to Nico Robin his ass.

Fabien

It's hard to know which is the most popular route, a lot of people have their own favorite (it's like your favorite FF ahah). But HF was very shocking yes, considering how the visual novel carefully made the player interact with 2 characters in the two first routes, and what is revealed about them is HF later (but you already know if you watched zero beforehand). It's also the route with the most lore regarding the true nature of the grail.

Wurzeldieb

So what's the plan after Heaven's Feel? Directly Strange Fake, or maybe better the the El-Melloi Case Files before it? What about Babylonia? That is a must watch too.

ReCursed

I hope after heaven's feel you'll watch eather fate stay night 2006 or lord el melloi case files wich are while are different timeline is chronologically next after fate stay night. And you can have Vawer back! It's his story. And after that fate apocrypha, maybe fate kalleid liner prisma illya, then fate grand order, then fate strange fake - it's all fate! And it's fate to watch it.

ReCursed

Anti-world weapon

Ama No Murakumo

I LOVE the Shirou vs Gilgamesh fight, I may have watched it dozens of times. One thing about the video you watched, when Shirou was materializing the Reality Marble his incantation spoken and the subs where very different. The subs, I think, where copy paste from Archer's or the English dub one ( not 100% sure which ) and while very cool and pretty similar, it loses some of the nuance because while Shirou and Archer are the same person, they each have different details in their incantations marking their worldviews and and character

Nus Nus

It was good enough considering the route is about 20 hrs long condensed into 6. Ignorance is bliss in this case, its fine for a viewer but readers will find it a bit lacking

Gavern

Babylonia at least needs the 'First Order' and maybe even the 'Camelot' movies first.

Marcos cruz

So the official answer is that Archer(Emiya) survived Gilgamesh attack, we can also see this since he has the memories of this war, if he would have died and come back as a guardian or even servant again, he would have no memories of this war. But fans speculated for years that it his guardian form, I also feel like the author didn't think about it too much, because the guardian theory does sound like a better explanation. Also one thing that is more clear in the visual novel, is Shirou gets saved by Archer(Emiya) projecting a Rho Aias in front of Shirou when Gilgamesh used EA , otherwise Shirou would have not made it, so he helped Shirou twice in this fight.

Marcos cruz

No Shirou end up becoming Archer in neither of the 3 timelines, but the Shirou that becomes Archer is the most similar to the one that lived the events of the FATE route, pretty much his love for the 3 heroines saves him from the Archer path in each route.

Raydough

most likely new poll otherwise it wouldn't be fair

Klinch

I read a theory where Archer was just "living" inside the Reality Marble until summoned. So, Shirou casting the Reality Marble summoned Archer. I think it's a cool theory. I like your theory too. The official explanation is kinda bad.

Klinch

The guadian theory is better IMO.

del

I’m all for garden of sinners but you’re basically telling a college sophomore what PhD they should pursue lol

Ethereal

Pushing the Fate/Strange Fake agenda. If you liked the adult ensemble cast that Fate/Zero had you should definitely watch it, and it's a Holy Grail War that takes place in America. (After the Heaven's Feel movies.)

アート 金

skip babylonia it is the weakest of your 3 suggestions

Subarun

Wesley loves to overthink each situation it reminds me of English teachers who tries to understand what the author was thinking even if they did not intend for itlol

able16

53:58 That Steph grin, she knows 3 movies means banger incoming.

d34ddud3

Unfortunately it sounds like what they'll watch next was decide by poll along with all the other anime they've watched long ago. Also... Kaleid is the one Fate series I absolutely disagree with. Everything else you recommended I agree with, but not that one man. Maybe some lore summary breakdown since there was a few cool concepts about the magic system, but it honestly isn't worth it. iykyk

Umineko peak fiction

So poetic how UBW is all about Shirou finding his answer to what being a hero is through Archer/Gilgamesh with surpassing Archer as him being the literal embodiment of Shirou ideals and Gilgamesh being the greatest and apex of all heroes Very excited for the Heaven's Feel movie reactions since it is my favorite part.

Subarun

What I love about the way Shirou won is that Gilgamesh could've won the fight the whole time, because of his arrogance/ego/pride he didn't try to properly win or use Ea until the end, which is like admitting he lost. He got very frustrated that Goldy.

Vequoin

i think tsukihime and garden of sinners has a lot of lore for this world but there is no good tsukihime anime, i only read the manga like 2 decades ago haha

Fabien

I didn't mean to be rude.

ReCursed

You can't know for sure. They might watch it like connected series like one big show (jojo, hero academia etc.) And Kaleid - i like it. If they don't watch OVAs they should be okay. Battles, personality of character, lore and philosophy of characters are worth it. They watched Mushoku Tensei and are okay.

Wong Viriya

Yes Fate Strange Fake after Heavenfeel

Wong Viriya

I support KnK at one point as well

Caleb Martin

That theory isn’t bad, but it does run into the issue of Rho Aias being summoned while Shirou was summoning ubw (which we know was Archer, since Shirou had never seen it until that point. Other than that, though, it’s a cool though

Shrimpy Jam

I think I read back then, Archer survived turning incorporeal in that split second. Then he survives by consuming the souls in the Einzbern forest for mana.

Kracksined Nicolas

I do like the fact that for all his bolstering, Gil never created anything, he only inherited the weapons of the legends that came after him. Shirou, even though he creates "fake/copies" is an artist which makes him superior to Gil in my book

eXxCeZz

Dont worry about it. It just sounded very condescending x)

eXxCeZz

As the director said. He would have preferred to make one, 8 hour movie of HF. However that would make it unwatchable.

AC

I think Rin pities Shirou more than anything. As a mage, nothing is sadder than a heir to a fallen mage family. He was never in her eyes. Also, Rin loves Sakura very very much. She was willing to use up her father's trump card he left for her just to save Sakura's crush. Why wouldn't she go all out to save Sakura's brother?

Jerry10506

Man, Don't give me hope. It would be amazing, but hardly any reactors actually get into KnK after fate stuff, which is a shame cuz its my favorite type-moon IP by a mile.

monsters2312

What does Gil in the end is that one second where he calls out to pull out Ea but because he can't fathom using his trump card against Shirou, he hesitates on actually using it, allowing Shirou to strike him down and I really like that lol.

Subarun

Hey, it sells and made Fate popular long-term. No regrets

Subarun

What's funny is saying her first name is more intimate, he regressed lol

Ashamdon

Garden of Sinners seems very bothersome when it comes to copyright, much worse than fate. That's why a lot of reaction channels drop it early or avoid all together i think. Would love to see it though.

Ralph

yyyeeessss haven's feel is coming

A M

It's far from the only example of an eroge/porn game having unbelievably high tier writing.

A M

Assassin is unbelievably fucking cool

The Tangerine Cat

That's the same Archer Rin summoned, not his guardian version. And yes, there are different worldlines, but Archer EMIYA is the same entity across them all, because the Throne of Heroes is beyond all timelines, and EMIYA (in both his Heroic Spirit and Guardian container) is the same entity deployed across all worlds and times. In a sense, Archer EMIYA is more "canon" than Shirou. EMIYA is always the same EMIYA from the Throne across his different appearances in the Fate franchise, appearing across different worldlines (save for 2 of his alternative versions). Regardless, EMIYA's is eternally screwed, while Shirou still has a chance.

Manoi

yes pleaseeeeeeeeee

A M

Before I played the VNs I thought that Archer appearing at the end was a little bit of BS made up for the anime. But it's actually from the VNs. And it is Heroic Spirit Emiya, not his Guardian form or whatever. It's just that the Archer class' ability Independent Action is actually no joke.

Kidd

Fate/Stay Night 2006 before Heaven's Feel, I beg! Heaven's Feel is supposed to be the end. I'm sure I'll be happy regardless, I'm just sad how the narrative goes that FSN 2006 isn't worth watching, when it's the only form of the first 1/3 of the story we have in anime form (with UBW being 2/3, and Heaven's Feel being 3/3)

Peter II

Hello, wanted to add some historical context. Britain's destruction Saber is talking about is the Anglo Saxon invasion of Britain. Modern English people are a Germanic people who are descendants of Anglo-Saxons who crossed the sea from Europe. Meanwhile the native Celtic Britons were pushed to the edges and became the modern Welsh, Cornish and Bretons in France (they fled Britain itself). That's also why Great Britain is called Great since Lesser Britain is the Bretagne region in France. Of course genetically speaking modern English people are something like 2/3 native Briton and 1/3 Germanic. King Arthur's legend is sometimes identified with the Roman general Lucius Artorius Castus, a native Romano-Briton who defended the Celts from the Anglo Saxon invasion. If you remember Vinland Saga Askeladd is half Welsh, half Danish and he always identified with his Welsh heritage rather than his Danish side which's why he hated Vikings so much despite being one himself. Askeladd's true name was also Lucius Artorius Castus after the Roman general and his slave mother had placed all her hopes on Avalon, the mythical island where King Arthur fled to. I haven't read the lore but using historical context clues I'm pretty sure Saber is King Arthur who led the native Britons but ultimately failed to defeat the Anglo Saxons. The Anglo Saxons eventually won and settled Britain while the native Britons were assimilated and pushed to the edges becoming the Welsh, Cornish and Bretons. Saber regrets picking up the sword and wishes someone more competent could've led and prevented the destruction of Britain is how I interpret it.

Peter II

There's also an OVA called sunny day which takes place after UBW, maybe you guys can check it out. After Heaven's Feel there's also Fate/Strange Fake.

NayNay

I'm so exited for heavens feel!!

kipp3 3

Do you guys know if they're watching the movies?

Fabien

AC - > What are you replying to ? I don't think it's related to my comment.

Kiyoshi Murayama-Nakama

I actually live in a town in Japan where there is a statue of Kojirou Sasaki. It is believed that it was in that town where he developed one of his finishing moves called the Tsubame-Gaeshi ("Turning Swallow Cut") by watching swallows flying in and out of the water catching fish. Love seeing that his character is in Fate/Stay Night, but also sad when it's revealed it's not truly him.

Kiyoshi Murayama-Nakama

IMO I think Heaven's Feel has the best ending out of all the routes. It feels like the best closure for most of the characters. Even Ilyah's moment had me crying!

우람별

Hey! I'm a Korean fan who loves your reactions. I really hope you guys watch Heaven's Feel next!

Dredgen Colin

12:24 Perfectly said EXCEPT it would be the Counterforce deeming him worthy of the mantle/title, not the Grail. HEAVENS FEEL PLEASE DONT GOTO 2006

Dredgen Colin

The colloquial "win-button"* *except when every plot limiter applies

TSP

KnK is absolutely based. I'd enjoy a watch.

TSP

And smart ones would realize that you can't animate 25 hours of content.
