I'm trying to get a feel for what to vote for, to avoid similar levels of darkness to Made in Abyss. Madoka Magica certainly might approach the same level as MiA, and so might Monster. At the same time, they've been through Re Zero's "cave scene" and "rabbit scene", and Fate/Zero's Caster arc, so I'm not really sure where the line is anymore. I guess I'll vote for Fruits Basket or something.

It's more about the sheer frequency of child centred gore than 'darkness' or gore alone. Also that's only mentioning the child centred gore, and not the other disgusting ways children get depicted in MiA. Especially since the author is an outright pdfile, like self admitted. I think separation between art and artist should occur to an extent, but not when things like that are so intrinsically linked.

It’s crazy to me that people now try to call out Madoka or Monster for being on the same level as MiA. There’s no way you can’t differentiate between those shows and see why MiA is a special case. Comment sections for polls should be turned off. It would be for the best.

Monster doesn't have nudity(child or adult) or gore or body modification at all! it's actually a very wholesome show in the episodes itself tbh! It gets paired up with berserk a lot but it's not at all a hard watch, more so none of the characters are sexualised. Also the show is about hope and ideologies more than anything.

I don't think the comments should be turned off, but I do think there should be another outlet for people to directly or indirectly share their opinion. With the current system, fans like you or me have nowhere to interact outside of the comments, and so the discussion can ONLY happen here. Things like discussion about certain shows, especially their viability in the Poll, aren't relevant in any other place (ex: One Piece's latest video's comment section makes a bad spot to talk about Made in Abyss). Because of this, the issues that arise from concerned fans are often mixed in with others that are just straight up defaming something they don't like. It easy to spot and point out in isolation, but mixed in with the insane amount of legitimate comments, it is not. The answer to problems like this is not usually regulation, but instead organization.

Fruits basket is good for funny and sad, lighthearted at some points and deep at others, it’s short-medium length, I’ve rewatched it several times (I prefer the newer version since it was actually completed). One of my favourite animes. Bocchi the Rock is an anime I liked, not my favourite one but I still voted for that one too since I think they need a more lighthearted, low stakes, short anime. (Unrelated I know, but since you’ve watched kdramas and a bit of kpop, I recommend branching out from just BTS. Trying a girl group could be fun, Twice is my recommendation, very well known and loved)

It's one of my favorite pieces of media of all time, but I don't think they can handle it. The audience here can also be quite ... yes.. as we just saw this week. Hence why I never vote for it, just too much effort to argue about stuff and it's good enough that I can enjoy it 10x each rewatch. I'm hoping at least Madoka wins so they get a taste of Studio Shaft (at least once.. because it's such a unique experience). Exactly what Aki said. It's something of a deconstruction of the Magical Girl trope. It's about as much a Magical Girl anime as Evangelion is a Mecha anime.

The same logic applies, Japan also had a habit (like many other countries) of child soldiers, victim blaming children, taboos attached to birth, superstitions attached to children, etc. Japan in general historically, and currently, has a cultural issue with how they treat children; they are very much seen as almost accessories or tools(obviously not all the time, but still) to get sympathy or to justify certain actions. They have many stories featuring child suffering because many of their folktales, history, mythologies, and such features it and that's what they grew up on. I don't know how to explain it well, but basically: kids suffer a lot in Japanese media because their culture seems to view abuse as kind of just an accepted part of life leading up to adulthood(even though it's not)

Think about it: People who vote for Slime are voting for it because they genuinely want to watch the reactions. Meanwhile, the anti-Slime alliance is deliberately mass-voting for whichever show has the best chance of beating Slime, regardless of whether they actually intend to watch it. So, if Bocchi wins because of this, the number of people who actually tune in for the Bocchi reactions could end up being significantly smaller than the number who would’ve watched Slime. That’s the problem with this alliance. The polls are supposed to measure genuine viewer interest, not which group can organize the biggest voting campaign against a particular show. My concern is with people voting for a show primarily to prevent another one from winning. The MHA situation you mentioned is a good example of why that can be problematic. You might be on to something, as you are not wrong. Check 'polls' in their search and see the shows that have won the previous polls. JoJo's was the very first option; so was Made in Abyss. For K-drama, Alchemy of Souls, Twinkling Watermelon, When Life Gives You Tangerines, Queen of Tears were the first/second options. Bunny Girl Senpai won and was first, so was Horimiya, 86, and MHA were all in the top 4. When Code Geass and Apothecary Diaries won together, they were the top 2 options; Steins; Gate was the 2nd option. I can go on and on. This finding should be proof that you really want your show to be near the top options at least top 4 options for a very high success rate of winning polls.

I mean maybe not, but not every anime NEEDS to be one with a lot of discussion points. I really enjoy them for sure, from FMA to Rascal, but sometimes it's nice to have a simple anime to watch. Simple doesn't mean bad. They also do this as a job, and I imagine it's a 2nd job. I'd guess that a show or two in the rotation that's on the simple side would be nice to have when you're spending energy on raising kids and keeping the bills paid. Whatever they decide though. I think it'd be nice if they came out and said, "Hey guys, we're looking for shows with deeper themes to add to the list!" or, "Y'all we'd like something to turn off our brains a bit and just vibe with y'all to add to the list," or something. I think reasonable people would understand either way. I love both simple anime and deeper anime and I wanna see them react to it all.

Well if we're just talking about entirely hypothetical possibilities, it could be any near infinite number of things. The same 40 people experienced some sort of spiritual synchronicity event. a bug on Patreon's end, the same 40 people that voted roughly for the same exact entries had their memberships expire and that makes your votes go away for some reason, a secret cabal of anime reaction watchers colluding together, some rich prince with 40 accounts removed their votes from all but select entries. It really could be anything. The only fact is that something at all happened but all further I can do about it is shrug

@kittycatpumpkin Please remember that Slime would be a perfectly fine addition to W&S' anime reactions, just like all the other options on the poll. Please do not assume: A) That Sword Art Online will not get votes (it got 3rd last poll). B) That there is something wrong with Slime, other than the fact that it is on the medium-to-longer side (72 mainline episodes), since W&S already have quite a few of those running. C) That the alliance you have formed will rally under the same cause every time.

I mean, I get it and think it would have been a tough show for them to watch but they were 100% influenced by a loud minority in the comments. Monster is a niche show. It's slow paced and doesn't have that much conventional action. It would usually have a hard time winning but I think the drama around MiA actually gave it a good push and I'm pleasantly surprised that it won.

I'm glad Monster won but to the people who constantly argue that "show XY doesn't bring anything for "deep" discussions"; so what? Not every show needs to have that. Sometimes you just want to relax and watch something for the fun of it. If all you do is watch shows with heavy themes, you'll eventually burn out and lose interest in watching altogether. The original poll for Fate was only the 'main' shows, UWB, HF and Zero with the watch order poll voting to skip the Deen series, which I hope they decide to watch anyway.

Yeah here you go. For the one that lost the most, the biggest drop in votes and placement was Slime, dropping 55 votes and 3 spots. Only three shows total actually ended up with fewer votes than the original poll, being Slime, Eminence in Shadow, and Parasyte. That being said, Assassination Classroom, which GAINED 5 votes, lost two spots. Classroom of the Elite, which gained no votes whatsoever (being exactly equal to the previous voting count) gained one spot. As for the show that benefitted the most, the answer is obviously Monster, moving up 8 places and 148 votes. Your Lie in April moved up 7 places with 77 extra votes, and Saiki K also moved up 7 places with an additional 59 votes.

I'd say the other bits are probably true, but the one about the slime fans is probably not right. Some fans (roughly 60 of them) probably were dissuaded because people were against it winning. Now, is it likely that Bleach/Naruto fans were ALREADY voting for Slime? I'd say it's probably more likely.

The watch order poll having only the core series and Zero is a pretty big tell. And everything else is disconnected/standalone from the og series and created by different creators. Best comparison I can think of, but if something like Star Wars won a poll for whatever reactor, you wouldn't just assume they would be watching Mandalorian and Andor as well as part of it.

You do realize that nearly half of bleach is filler, if they genuinely want to watch bleach and skip filler they would realistically only need to watch 200 episodes not including tybw Yes slime has 70 episodes rn, but you fail to consider that the new season has 60 episodes coming out legitimately doubling the length and putting it to over 100 episodes numbers If they want a medium to small scale show, a 100+ episode anime isn't a good choice
