This is one of my favorite episodes of the whole series. After the season 1 finale, I was a little worried about where it would go next and if it would just be endless episodes of reboots. Then BAM - 800 reboots sped through in mere minutes. I knew the show was great after the big twist, but I feel like this is the episode that made me realize it was going to be on an even higher level than I initially expected. They know what they’re doing, and they are wasting no time.

Your volume seems to have become a bit low recently, please can you boost it a little going forward. :)

The writing staff for this series is an interesting crew indeed. A couple of them are also actors (like Josh Siegel who plays Glenn, the bearded demon who was smoking a cigar in this episode), but I want to single out Megan Amram, whose specialty is pun-filled names for restaurants. Rewatch the whole "802 reboots" portion of this episode and look at how all the names posted in the town square change, as the featured food changes in each reboot. I'm tempted to quote them all, but I'll just provide this link: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheGoodPlace/comments/7hg40y/list_of_restaurant_puns_by_staff_writer_megan/

Love Love Love this episode, the montage of all the different tries is so funny and good. "This is a real low point" had me rolling. all the different things, bees, pigs. So many good comedic bits...and then yet still some deep hits, especially at the Medium place... just such a great episode, one of my favorites of the series.

I continue to have this problem. Whether its the good place on netflix or West Wing (which I own digitally on Vudu cause I love it so much), I have to watch with the computer and patreon player volume maxed and with the netflix/vudu volume at the minimum level above mute to make sure I can hear them over it.

I was watching another reaction channel's reaction to star wars: the phantom menace who had previously done The Good Place and something hit me: Jason mendoza = jar jar binks. So going over some of the stuff you said. I don't think there's any basis to think they subconsciously retained anything reboot to reboot. In my opinion it's clear the laws of the universe that it's a full wipe. Version #2 they had the note to give them a head start and the torture is so obvious it forced then along. Chidi was given such an obvious choice that even he couldn't waffle on it, like he wouldn't waffle on "is genocide bad." We can't infer anything from the montage about them starting out improved over the previous reboot because it's only a snapshot from the middle of the reboots, only version #3 shows at the beginning of the reboot and she seems like she was at the beginning of season 1 in that time. Jason figuring it out is one of my all time favorite moments. Jason figuring it out is one of the, in my opinion as big a twist, moments as the season 1 finale lol. Do you think Tahari or chidi ever figure it out in any of the reboots? It's never said one way or the other, but I don't think that's really a spoiler and i havent seen anyone pose that question before. Season 2 is my favorite, followed by 1. You really don't know what's coming next. Use https://rot13.com/ to read my spoiler comments Ubj fubpxrq jvyy gurl or gung gurer vfa'g n gjvfg sbe n srj rcvfbqrf jura vg pbzrf gb gur znva cvcryvar? Just repeat what we did in Season 1? Nah, let's blow all that sh1t up in the first episode. :D And then let's blow THAT up in S2E2! Such great writing. :)

On a totally different note, a show I think you should consider watching/reacting to that I think you would love is Galavant. A medieval musical comedy that's one of the funniest shows I've ever seen funnier than the good place id say even. Only two seasons of I think 10 episodes each. It's a self aware spoof of classic fantasy medieval stuff. Only thing is it is a musical so while there are a few channels that have done reactions it might have to be a patreon only show, or something to just watch for fun for yourselves.

I've watched and rewatched this show so many times and am only now realizing Eleanor's dad's name is Doug, Jason has Donkey Doug, and then there's Doug Forsett. Lots of Dougs to go around.

Jenny D

I only figured it out when I started listening to The Good Place: The Podcast.

Henrique Jambu

Yes! I remember Michael Schur saying that they planned the whole 4 seasons before the show started

Henrique Jambu

Their volume's been low since the beginning of reactions to me, I just play it with Patreon's volume on 100% haha

this is perhaps my favorite episode (definitely one of), and that's about 74% due to megan amram's restaurant/business names. i have to call out at least a few classics i giggled at during this viewing: a knish from a rose. a little bit chowder now. sushi and the banshees.

janet with the sonogram omg

Just sticking to a pasta theme, I'm partial to "You Do the Hokey Gnocchi and You Get Yourself Some Food," though I also like "Penne for Your Thoughts" and "Lasagna Come Out Tomorrow."

- Tahani also apologized to Eleanor at the end of the last episode and showed some self awareness, which I lump with Eleanor's decency, Chidi's decisiveness, and Jason speaking up. They've all changed, even after being rebooted 800+ times. - LOL I never noticed the jazz guy is named Sebastian (presumably a nod to La La Land). - The montage of all the reboots (and all the Janet deaths) is incredible. - No, that is not an excellent Australian accent, Vicky. - I highly recommend pausing and looking at all the names of the restaurants in the neighborhood -- it's Pun Heaven!

Youtalkingtome

That's awesome. It really puts me at ease too. Not that I don't already trust the show. Just knowing there is a set path makes me feel good.

Youtalkingtome

Sorry guys. I know it's gotta be on our end. We turned it up recently and it was actually quite loud in our ears.

Youtalkingtome

I can see how this is gunna be a classic episode. I have no idea where they are gunna go next. Obviously an alliance of sorts with Micheal.

Youtalkingtome

I adore Jason. His schtick hasn't gotten old at all. I still find his character hilarious as ever. Him figuring it out was one of the best bits of the episode.

Youtalkingtome

We were considering it as a replacement to CXG, but we settled on TGP instead! A decision we're both very happy with. Maybe in the future we'll check it out!

This episode was amazing discussing it as the show came out. I remember thinking I'd stumbled onto gold when I saw someone before this ep suggest that Mindy's place is how they'll escape, the only way to break the loop. Only for them to show up there and have already been 15 times! And "Make Michael think he's in the Bad Place" is a funny joke but I also saw a couple theories leading up to the episode wondering if that was a feasible option. And I love the out of nowhere "Catch that magic panda, use her powers", it makes me laugh every time. The episode as a whole has so many funny out of context things. It makes wish fulfilment work, because I'm sure we've all thought about "what if" scenarios with shows, and The Good Place is able to do that in this episode with all the reboots. Like the one with the balloon and the cactuses, I assume there was some sort of challenge where they had to make sure the balloons didn't pop or something bad would happen. And the one with the clown, there's just a clown stalking them and I love how everyone shushes Eleanor despite the gravity of what she says. And of course Jason figuring it out is hilarious, in 800+ times it surely had to happen at least once.

"Sometimes you go back because you walk in on me while I'm masturbating, and sometimes you go back because I walk in on you while I'm masturbating." hilarious mislead

Andrew Hansen

I like Jason too and don't hate Jar jar as much as others. I found the ewoks far more annoying than jar jar

Balazs Foldes

The thing with this show is, I'm never show, if they are driving me to a really interesting and good place with the next twist, or if it's all just going to hell.

DelGuy03

I should mention that you guys have SEEN Megan Amram -- in that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend episode with all the symbolic Cat performers, she was the last of them, the Nostalgia Cat.

Youtalkingtome

So many different possibilities! Which is why I said it felt like a multiverse. I genuinely have no idea where the show is going but I'm so excited.

Maria Stoycheva

I really enjoyed the montage with the 800+ attempts. Honestly, that could have been the whole episode and I still would have been happy. I am sad we didn't get to see the multiple characters that any of the Bad Place employees was forced to create - I am sure they got to some elaborate, fun torture in all these attempts. I always enjoy seeing the same actor performs different roles within the same show: think Groundhog day, or swapping bodies like in Freaky Friday, or alternative universe versions, or adjusting for time travel... Jason inadvertently giving someone an idea is one of my favourite jokes in this series. His stories are always so bizarre and yet... they sometimes make a lot of sense.

This has possibly been mentioned by someone else already (sorry, just subbed), but NBC basically begged Michael Schur to develop something else for them as Parks & Rec was drawing to a close, and Schur only agreed to do that if he got a contractual guarantee of four seasons exactly, so he could do a completely serialized show with interconnected episodes where everything was planned and outlined in advance. (With Parks and Rec never knowing if the show would get canceled, there are 5 or 6 episodes especially in the first 3-4 seasons which could have served as a series finale, which he hated having to do.) That's why The Good Place is as good as it is. Every episode is intentional and planned so that it moves the overall plot arc forward.

Youtalkingtome

Studios and Networks are so weird. I get that it's a business but just let the artist do his or her job. Kudos to him for being professional and making some of the greatest tv ever. I'll watch anything he does

Kimba

I agree about the full wipe. I don’t think they retained anything. The note definitely made a difference as well as the changes all the demons tried to do. But going to Mindy’s I do think they get some extra knowledge about themselves and that changes them. And even though I don’t think they were directly charged, I still feel their past timelines mattered somehow for each subsequent one. Because we’ve seen them go through all these iterations and so have the demons so it’s not really like a regular start again swipe. And the better the demons get at torture the better the humans will get at figuring it out.

Jamie Morgan

"Hot Dog on a Stick on a Stick" might be my favourite of all the Good Place restaurants!
