How about that curveball? 😀 Fantastic performance by Holly Taylor, really tough scene and she nailed it. And I think that counts as an awkward dinner, right? 🤣 [Philip sharpening knife in Stan's direction] "Paige is so observant since her baptism" 🤣🤣

In the real world, the children of one of the Illegals couples of Operation Ghost Stories found out the truth the hard way! https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/may/07/discovered-our-parents-were-russian-spies-tim-alex-foley#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=17140048618663&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theguardian.com%2Fworld%2F2016%2Fmay%2F07%2Fdiscovered-our-parents-were-russian-spies-tim-alex-foley Subsequent: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-50873329

I forgot that this is the episode in which Paige learns the truth, and it's so effective because it just comes totally out of the blue. Holly Taylor, who plays Paige, does an incredible job here. I love how the director throughout those scenes let the camera remain for so long on each actor's face, letting them do their job, and building the tension even more. So of course I know which soap opera Paige was watching, because I have no life and I still watch it. That was "General Hospital," the most popular soap of the 80s (Elizabeth Taylor was actually a guest star). That character Scott Baldwin is still on the show today, forty years later. Just so you know what happened, Scott told Susan that she should be afraid because he and a whole bunch of other people wanted to kill her, and not long after, she was indeed murdered. Scott didn't do it, though, so you can rest easy tonight.

First time since the pilot that I actually felt like they might threaten Stan's safety! She absolutely crushed that scene

Random thought, do the other employees of the travel agency ever get suspicious?

Great intro and outro - one of the best I've seen from you guys :) I lived on Strat-O-Matic Baseball as a kid - favorite game I've ever played - still exists (and I do still play it from time to time)! www.strat-o-matic.com I've been waiting 36 episodes for this episode - the one where Holly Thomas gets to show her chops - outstanding. There are 39 episodes left, so halfway thru the series, one of the kids knows the truth...so many new storytelling directions this could go! "Put that phone down Paige..." typical Joe taking the Soviet's side...such a communist sympathizer lol Originally airing on April 1, 2015, 'Stingers' is Episode 10 of Season 3 of The Americans. It is the 36th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 9.0, placing it as the #1 ranked episode of this season and #1 out of all the episodes shown so far.

They don't seem to, but the number of private conversations between Phillip and Elizabeth with the door closed during working hours would seem odd to me.

It was so out-of-left-field, too. Great writing to have no build to it and completely catch us off-guard like that.

Yep, James Franco had a guest stint as a psychotic performance artist who turned out to be the long-lost fraternal twin brother of one of the main characters (who happens to be a mob hitman with a heart of gold). I just realized that in the early 80s "General Hospital" introduced a bunch of new characters who were international spies. So it's probably no accident that "The Americans" chose to include this particular soap.
