46 Long

Actuarial Lurker

My wife was a forensic psychiatrist and dealt with quite a few criminals as a "profiler" in her former career and sociopaths typically can't be treated. That is why it was interesting to watch it when it originally aired to see how authentic the show was

Unless you take the PATH train- essentially a mini subway system running from several towns in NJ into Manhattan or a few buses that head into Port Authority Bus Terminal you need a car to live in NJ and get around in NJ. I was born in NYC but lived in NJ with a college roommate in 1990 for my first job before I got a small apartment in Manhattan and believe me you don't want to take public transportation from NJ to work in Manhattan- 90 minute bus, PATH, subway and walk EACH way every day...

Tony’s mother is one of my favorite tv characters. Really impressive stunt work in that scene where she plows into her friend with the car.

Did the episode title get explained?

Youtalkingtome

No, but I assume Tony pulled a suit from the rack of the jacked truck and it was his size, a 46 Long? Just a hunch.

Youtalkingtome

I'm really glad you have that perspective. Have the interactions with the psychiatrist seemed legitimate?

Youtalkingtome

That's a good point. I have only been to Manhattan a few times, but always thought there was NO WAY I would want to try to drive around and park in the city. Perhaps more like Don Draper's experience living upstate: drive to a reasonable station and then take the train the rest of the way into the city.

Actuarial Lurker

Yes, according to my wife. But her critique is that a good psychiatrist would know that most people in that life would not have empathy or insight so the advice would likely go in one ear and out the other

Actuarial Lurker

Especially if you don't want to pay $600 a month for parking (and soon we will have "congestion fees" for driving in midtown Manhattan- so on top of the close to $20 round-trip tolls you will pay to take anything other than the 59th street bridge from Queens into Manhattan you will pay a surcharge like they have in London)

I could be wrong, but I believe that nearly every episode makes some kind of "meta" reference to Mafia movies, historical mob figures, or how the media portrays Italian Americans and the mob. It's as though each character is trying to live some fantasy ideal of what a Mafia figure is supposed to be, but then realizing they still have to go home to their normal lives with their families.

Michael Rispoli, who portrays Jackie Aprile, was almost cast as Tony before Gandolfini. The TV show host is Harvey Levin. The Sopranos was the most expensive produced TV show until Game of Thrones.

Whenever I’m having a bad day, I send my buddy a gif of Livia saying, “I wish the Lord would take me now!”
