so glad you're watching/enjoying this series! i've always found it to be quite underrated and it feels like nobody else watches it (save for me and a few close friends) so it's nice to see someone else start the journey! not sure if you've clocked it yet, but wrenn schmidt who plays margo played kate in season 2 of the americans--she's great in this show (and has a cool name, no bias here) can't wait for episode 3, it's a personal favorite of mine in season 1 for sure!!

I just finished episode 3, and it was fantastic! The letters from young girls around the world to the astronaut candidates choked me up.

I had never heard of this show and I too am a "night owl". My friends called me Dracula due to my go to bed at 2:30am and get up at 10:15am schedule in college just in time to get to the campus cafeteria before breakfast ended. I now have my own business as a consultant so tend to work odd hours- and as long as I can make client Zoom calls and deliver work on time then people don't care!

We could have had a base on the Moon and visited Mars by now. I was 3 when Apollo 11 landed and fear that human space travel will not occur gain until I'm 20 year from now when I will be pushing 80

As a fist time watcher I speculate: As a Math and Physics double major as an Undergrad- since there is no lunar atmosphere and 1/6 the gravity, they can just launch at the angle, and try to rendezvous with Collins at a different point in his orbit

Deke plays mcgroder (I think) one of the watergate burglars in the great mini series “gaslit” about John Mitchell’s wife who accused Nixon from the start but nobody believed her. Psychologists actually call it the “Martha Mitchell effect” I highly recommend gaslit it’s so funny a great exchange with the two fbi agents working watergate, they’ve discovered everything and figured it all out and now are waiting for the trials: Agent 1: this was actually the first election (1972) that I didn’t choose to vote democrat, I had too. Agent 2: I’ve never voted democrat. Agent 1: wait a minute, you voted for Nixon even after working the watergate case??? Agent 2: I believe in law and order. I know the motives for destroying von Braun was corrupt but as a Brit I loved seeing him face the judgement he escaped in real life. Escaped justice mostly because of the USA.

I find it interesting you call it a smear campaign against von braun. It’s all true! Sure they were using it for cynical reasons but they still served justice. In his factory the least productive workers were hanged from the beams. He was a war criminal if anyone was.

Was nice to see your support for Braun die as you learned more…… people often say tolerating Braun was the price for space but I reject that. 1. Because some things are unforgivable 2. There’s never only 1 man/woman who can do the job, you’ve just only found one. 3. To use a SS officer as the forefather of your space program forever stains it. Like have a great company that was started by slavery.

Wrenn smidt also played a CIA lady in Looming tower. A nasty character who basically allowed 9/11 to happen by failing to warn fbi that terrorists were in the country. Then when she realised her mistake, she gave the files to the fbi among other random files to act as camouflage, and didn’t warn them specifically about those two future hijackers. She believed that it’s better to follow terrorists to their bosses rather than arresting them…. They were doing that with 9/11 hijackers and lost them. When they lost them she realised she should give the files to the fbi now, to cover her ass but she never told them anything. I hated her and in this show i quickly loved her. She’s a skilled actor She’s the same character that Jessica chastain played in zero dark thirty.
