This is the second pastor in 24 hours that you guys are expecting to get killed! It might be your fault, you know.....

For a lot of people, this is the show’s best episode. Not for me, my favorite is in Season 3, but it’s definitely a top 5.

Irina (Tony's comare, or "goomar") is recurring, she's been in the last three episodes, though it may feel like he has a harem!

In the pilot she was played by someone else (and so was Father Intintola, actually). There was a large gap of a whole year at least, between the pilot and the pickup to series by HBO & filming of the rest of S1. Many differences occur, notably Gandolfini's weight and his voice which he altered with help of a coach. Also various real locations were replaced with sets, as is typical.

I don't think this is the best episode of the series, but it definitely is kind of a watershed episode where the show really started to hit its stride and become special.

And you should recognize the Priest as the Hobo from Mad Men who carved the "evil man" graphic on to the mail box post of Don's father

You get kicked out of witness protection for breaking the rules or laws. Henry Hill (Goodfellas) and Sammy Gravano (one who gave up Gotti) got kicked out for selling drugs I believe.

Directed by Allen Coulter, who directed a dozen episodes of this…and ironically a couple of For All Mankind as well.

As you mentioned it, I don't believe they do another cold open in the entire series. Also the opening is basically the same the whole series, but they did take the World Trade Center shot out after 9/11.
