Yall have never seen this?? Oh we're ready. This is really the summer for reaction channels 🔥

thank u next

Also I just want to add. The movies grow up with the characters, so it will mature as they mature. 👍

nj

is anyone else having an issue keeping in sync? confirmed the patreon playback speed is definitely at 1x, but i somehow keep falling behind with the movie on my other screen.

Jeff

I watched the movie on Max and it was in sync, no problem.

Maxxie

No problem for me either, but I've had it happen with a couple shows they've watched - maybe there are more than one cut of this movie ?

Jeff

Thanks, guys! What a great way to end the work week! And good timing, too: on Sunday night, Daniel Radcliffe won his first Tony Award on Broadway, twenty-three years after this movie. I also tried reading the first book when it came out and I couldn't get past the child abuse in the early chapters. But a friend talked me into seeing the movies, and they were definitely worth it. I admit I didn't enjoy them all the first time through, but I've grown to appreciate them so much more on repeated viewings. It's amazing to watch these actors grow up before our eyes. As with all of your other reactions, I appreciate you both so much for your insightful observations about the directing, editing, art direction, etc., in addition to the story and acting. And Joe, I believe you're the first reactor ("reactioneer"?) to ever use the word "trepidatious" in a reaction video. Kudos to you. You're worth every penny of that Patreon membership.

Maxxie

I love that you're watching these ! The first one is quite good, it's the most whimsical one and it does a great job at establishing the world and the characters, but it's also the one most aimed at children. Doesn't make it bad, but to me at least it's a bit less engrossing upon rewatch than the later ones. Some of the installments in the series are true masterpieces though. The movies came out typically every other year, so you can tell the actors age a bit too fast compared to the characters, but it's not too bad. Have fun watching these - I definitely will !

Youtalkingtome

Hey I really appreciate your kind words. We really love that each and every one of you are here. This movie was amazing and I can't wait to dive into this franchise

Youtalkingtome

Whimsical is the best way to describe it. It felt very 80s Spielberg. I loved every second of it and would watch it again right now

Alex Lee

It took me far too long to realise the Mirror of Erised... is Desire backwards

nj

thanks - i'll try again today from max. 🙂

Ari.g

so excited to see y’all go on this journey 😭😭 if someone showed me this movie and then the last one straight after, i’d think they were completely different franchises. Cant wait to see y’all watch these kids grow up!

Andrew Hansen

Excited for this journey and watching this reaction later today. It's one of my favorites. Though I would put Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia (the books) ahead of it, but i prefer it to Game of thrones. I still have an old beat up and stained first edition (missing the dust jacket too of course) of this book, but I want to buy the physical book set once i have my own space and room for the set, my library is already well exceeding the shelve space i have currently...by about 4 bookshelves worth of books if not more. Read or listen to the books if you can. here's a link to listen to it free online. Obviously like any book it has so much more about the characters and stuff than the movie can show, but i want to focus on a different thing that makes a huge difference: quidditch in the books. It is much less of an insane thing in the books in the books, lots of rules and safety measures. i watch another reaction channel do the movies and then read through the books doing book reviews and that's one of the biggest differences to them between the movie and books was quidditch. http://staraudiobooks.co/audiobook/stephen-fry/

I’m excited for you! I do know a few people who have started them who have not been too into the first couple of movies, but when they stick with it, they can’t believe how good they get. The movies and themes do grow with the characters.

Jeff

Wow, I didn't realize that until ... right now. Thanks for that!

Jeff

That's hilariously disturbing! ...or disturbingly hilarious...

Aude M

Personally, I grew up with the books and the movies. I was practically the same age as the protagonists, as were my schoolmates. HUGE thing for my generation. I'm a fan but nos as much as some of my friends who were collectioners ad are watching the movies at least once a year ^^ There are so many great stories around these books and these films, the making-ofs, relationships btw the actors... I'm so excited to see you all discover this universe !! (even if yes, JKR has actually become an awful person...but Daniel Radcliffe is actually a great ally and great guy)

Jamie Morgan

They usually came out once a year, not every other year. I think there are three 2-year gaps over the entire series.

Maxxie

@Jamie, don't forget that they split the last book into two movies, which also increases the time discrepancy. There are 6 years between the first book and the last, but 10 years between the first and last movie, so it's not far from double the timespan.

Youtalkingtome

That's awesome you still have that! I would love to see the differences. I wonder if they changed it to make it more cinematic or because it was just too hard to film? I'll check it out!

Youtalkingtome

Really? We really enjoyed this first one. It had a very 80s adventure film vibe to it. I can't wait to see how the franchise evolves

Youtalkingtome

His post Potter career has been so interesting. I haven't seen his TBS show with Busemi but I hear it's really funny

Peggy G

Matthew Lewis, the actor who plays Neville Longbottom, had himself a glow-up in adulthood. If you met him randomly tomorrow & he told you he played Neville, you'd probably call BS.

Jordan MacQueen

More potter movies :D So many wonderful actors and actress, many , sadly. no longer with us. I'm so happy your starting this journey and we can come with you :-)

Laura Room

You should definitely consider doing Miracle Workers. I'd watch with you for sure!

Joy M

Draco is to Harry Potter as Jean-Paul is to the West Wing.

Joy M

Oh Joe, John Williams was just a guest on the Smartless podcast, you may want to check it out.

Roland Cooke

The most unfortunate thing about the success of these movies is that for a brief period, ten years maybe, kids all over the world were obsessed with reading....

Weird Magic

He was also nominated for playing Weird Al in the "Weird" biopic - quite the range!
