Love this episode, and loved your reaction. Like LOST, this show consistently delivers amazing super-sized season finales that really feel like event television. As you said, Ellen is an amazing character, and her catching the tank in this episode was truly heroic. That touches on one of my favourite things about this show: the vast and varied ensemble of well-written female characters. In this season alone, there’s great material for Ellen, Molly, Karen, Tracy, Margo, Danielle, Aleida, Pam, and Patty Doyle. Every season of the show so far has actually had more women in the main cast than men, which is a rarity for genre fiction - and it’s done so naturally that many people don’t even notice! The characters all feel very human and very distinct from one another. I look forward to diving into Season 2 with you! Some sections are a little more of a slow-burn than Season 1, but you can trust that it pays off big-time.

There's a scene earlier in the season where the four female astronauts are holding court in The Outpost. Take a screenshot of that and revisit it at the end of each season. 🙂

I agree.. I’m what some would consider the right wing of politics, don’t like this woke stuff etc. But whenever people criticize this show (my favourite) as being woke, I always respond. There is a difference between being ‘woke’ and just having a realistic cross section of characters. Sure they call it woke because of the feminism and LGBT characters also its touch on race relations. Thats not woke that’s just realistic, not only for reality but for the alternative reality of the show. It represents people that existed then like molly Cobb and countless gay astronauts/engineers etc. While they push these characters and issues to the forefront they also have characters like Ed, Tracy, deke, the political administrators who aren’t opposed to this but aren’t enthusiastic about it either. Even things like adding women or firing von Braun, while they are the right things to do, they’re done for cynical reasons. It’s a world better than ours yet it’s still very similar……. Makes you realise how little had to change for us to live in for all mankind season 5/6 or 7 by now.

I like how it shows Ed and deke and men who are far from perfect but still clearly have something useful to offer…. And they’re not defined by their worst moments.

The Inedible Mattman!

Whew, what an episode!!! Can I just say, that from the moment Ed throws the fuel and until Ellen catches on after getting thrown off ... I didn't breath. I couldn't breath! That's one of the most amazing things I've seen on television up until that moment, and it was amazing. Your reaction was 100% what I was hoping it was! Thank you so much for doing this series. :) Keep up the great work!
