The first season was nominated for eleven Emmys. The show won four Emmys, including Edie Falco lead actress, writing for the episode College, casting and single camera editing.

Speaking of Emmys: Aside from recognition for great acting and other aspects, the Sopranos was an absolute juggernaut in the writing category, snagging 3 or 4 of the 5 nomination slots for several years running.

4 month time jump and we get to see the HORRIBLY annoying character of Tony's sister Janice (who recall went to the amusement park with the other fathers so they can run illegal schemes well pretending to be at the rides) who's apple din't fall from for the Livia tree

Actuarial Lurker

Paulie Walnuts for being annoying was AN ACTUAL low level mobster who did time with TEWNTY EIGHT arrests- so was in the LIFE before becoming an actor later so brings authenticity AND humor to the role

Actuarial Lurker

They are running a "pump and dump" scheme like the movie "Boiler Room" so getting their licenses so they can run illegal penny stock trading

Definitely. Janice definitely learned how to be a manipulator and a parasite from her mother. At least Tony seems to be more onto Janice about it; his "sweet old lady" blind spot to Livia was to his detriment.

Sleazy. I have a feeling that these 2 new guys are trying so hard to be like Brendan that they are also going to idiot-walk themselves into early graves as well.

Dr. Melfi's patient at the motel we see briefly is Terence Winter, one of the show's writers. He's also the creator of Boardwalk Empire and wrote The Wolf of Wall Street. We'll continue to see other showwriters sprinkled in as extras or guest appearances including Matt Weiner.

Every time tony is rejected by a woman in this show, he immediately seeks validation from the other women in his life. In this one, after he gets rejected by melfi, he foregoes his normal routine, and heads home where he knows a meal and a literal pat on the back is waiting. It’s these understated moments that make this show great. The fact not much happens at the end, just 3 minutes of mundane onesided conversation. And yet so much is said about Tony’s character, and the relationship he has with the Carmela/women in general.

Banciamo le mani: Kiss the hands + Alle semplici mortali baciamo le mani, Ma ci inchiniamo ai piedi delle divinità e delle sante. One kisses hands of common mortals, as for goddesses and saints, one ought to bow down to them.

Schifusa - a disgusting foul woman

I realize I haven't watched the Analyze This movies, should correct that asap. I guess I figured they came out long after The Sopranos, clearly not!

Even as a huge West Wing fan, I think they got the nod because cable shows like this were so new and weren't considered as "prestigious."

Got to tell the story of when The West Wing won it's 4th straight Best Drama Emmy and James Gandolfini made a comment to the press like "I don't even know why we show up to this fucking thing!" Josh Malina, when he was asked about it, hysterically gave the response, "I could have sworn he played Tony Soprano on that show, not Big Pussy."
