The Pointy End

Absolutely do two episodes. When would we ever not agree to more content? The people that tried to take Bran were wildlings that made it south of the Wall. The hill tribes are on the edge of the Vale of Arryn and raid the High Road, the only pass from the King's Road to the Eyrie. Hodor likes to bath in the pools in Winterfell's godswood... but he sometimes forgets to redress himself. By the way... there is a godswood in King's Landing still... so that visiting northern lords could pray. But most of the weirwoods in other places have been chopped down in favor of the Faith of the Seven. "Bold." Well... he's called Barristan the Bold for a reason. They only really hint at how badass he was in the show. They talk a little more about his history/deeds in the books... including how he earned that nickname. I dug the first season of House of the Dragon. I haven't started the second yet.

Tyrion and Bronn rank among my three favorite characters, and their development only continues to improve as the story unfolds. My third favorite character does not appear until the sixth season. The men accompanying Tyrion are from the hill tribe and are distinct from the group that attacked Bran. The attackers from Bran's storyline are from north of the Wall, known as the Free Folk, or referred to as Wildlings by the inhabitants of the Seven Kingdoms. Yes you should do two episodes next week.

Jeff

Yes! Of course you should do two episodes next week!!

Pre-show comment: If I may, don't skip the intro sequence. Actually, you should put even more attention to it in future seasons. It's full of info to what's the state of the world as of the start of the episode you're about to watch.

2nd pre-show comment: House of the Dragon is really not bad! You have a masterpiece in Game of Thrones, but it's nice to have more storytelling in that universe on a weekly basis now that we're done with the original content.

TouchTheGarlic

I emphatically disagree with your roommate - House of the Dragon is fantastic! Personally, I would rank it slightly below the early seasons of Thrones, but WAY above the later seasons of Thrones (and firmly above most other television). There are actually some aspects of the books that I think House of the Dragon does a much better job of capturing than Game of Thrones ever did. Also, a fat big “yes please” to the prospect of two episodes next week! The more the merrirer.

it took me a couple tries to get into house of the dragon (or hot d, as i call it). five episodes into season 2, i still prefer game of thrones, but i wouldn't say hot d is terrible. i'm certainly invested in hating certain characters, and i often find myself frustrated by the poor choices of the characters i want to like. so, i guess it's doing something right.

Post-show: I'll go against the grain on the 2 episode watch. If you do so, sure you're getting the hit, getting more of the good stuff, but then when to end it? It will only get better, and better. I binge watched Seasons 1-2-3 because I was getting into GoT just before season 4. It's too tough to stop, I'm telling you. And I wish I did stop at some point. Since then, I rewatched some key episodes (or series of episodes) many times. Also, since we're getting there (it may look spoilery but your intent on binging 2 episodes next week makes it important to say), GoT is known to have EPIC 9th episode for ALL seasons (some have less than 9), and those episodes make a statement and must be absorbed in a certain way. My heart would be more than happy to get 2 episodes next week, but my mind is cautiously warning you not to do it. I know I'll get my fair share of haters for saying this out loud, but I stand by it.

So happy you’re having fun with this show! It really is a barn-burner! People have their — understandable — gripes about the last season, or differences between the show and books, but (as someone who hasn’t read the books) I never found a point where I wasn’t invested and enjoying this show. The world and characters never stop being great! You do as many episodes as you want, whenever you want, my dude! We’ll be here to enjoy the rewatch with you. 😄 What you said about characters having conflicting allegiances (e.g. we adore Tyrion — but he’s a Lannister, who are kinda the worst) is, I feel, one of the most fun things about this show. Everything’s complex, especially when it has history behind it, and evolves, especially in war, and this show takes place over multiple years — so you get to watch peoples’ goals shift over time. My advice is to look for the people who are trying to do good. I can’t remember his name, but the Northman who butts heads with Rob and loses a couple fingers to his direwolf — if I’m ever in a war, I want some crazy dude like that with me!

More weekly content is very welcome.

I definitely think you should torture yourself (and us) by restricting it to one episode per week. :) Honestly it's a show that benefits from time to digest and ruminate, plus the anticipation of what is yet to come. And you're not wrong, one of the finest first seasons of TV of all time.

Roland Cooke

House of the Dragon is worth watching. It's been a bumpy ride, but it is really paying off now. By the time you finish GOT, HOTD will probably be on its third season, really looking forward to that.

Roland Cooke

Agreed, the intro sequence is not only fantastic, it actually evolves as the world dynamics change, definitely worth keeping (and watching, and commenting).

Roland Cooke

If - if - you switch to two episodes per week (and I'd advocate against that, the show isn't going anywhere!), definitely do the penultimate and final episodes of the season as individual weekly episodes.

Roland Cooke

We should give a massive shout-out to Kate Dickie and Lino Facioli for their amazing performances as The Arryn Family (to the tune of The Addams Family of course). + If you want a non-spoilery glimpse into the future, Little Britain did a masterful job.... https://youtu.be/DuPBbFOiygo?si=mA-th3CBenaei9Zr

I’m good for the two episode binge next week. You want to watch while you’re excited. The show has slowly acclimated you to having many stories going and they took the training wheels off with this one. I’ve watched about half of season 1 and will catch up but it didn’t draw me in like this did where I watched season 1 in a day.

Youtalkingtome

That guy was freaking awesome. So unbothered by losing his fingers lmao. You're right this world is so freaking good. I'm kicking myself for never watching this. Just great storytelling all around.

Alex Lee

Yes please to 2 episodes next week!

Roland Cooke

Because the show has a habit of going berserk in the penultimate episode of each season, worth giving it the space and time it deserves,

I HIGHLY recommend the history and lore videos on YouTube after you close out each season especially because you seem so enthralled by the talk of old gods this episode. It’s Non spoiler content but it gives you all the history and context behind what was mentioned in the corresponding seasons AND they’re all narrated by the cast. It really cracks the whole world open for you and provides context that makes the show that much more interested.

TouchTheGarlic

I have mixed feelings about this suggestion. While those videos don’t contain any spoilers for Thrones (so long as you watch each set after the corresponding season), some of them do contain massive spoilers for House of the Dragon.

I love that you said "bold" when Ser Barristan was dismissed. His nickname is Barristan the Bold. :) SO MUCH happening in this episode. The white walkers are REAL, no one can deny it now. I also love your excitement throughout, and especially during the intro. That theme is just so hype building. During season 6 I would send a different version of the theme to my friends on Sundays before each episode and we'd have a watch party. It was definitely a cultural high point of the 2010s.

Youtalkingtome

I remember the watch parties. Never went to any because I didn't watch the show. Really wish that I would have

Shout out to Craig Ferguson, the actor — who had a surprisingly fantastic late night comedy show.
