Some movies were close enough to greatness to warrant a re-do.

I loved Krull as a child. Parts of it terrified me though. I haven't rewatched it as an adult, because I think, like Beastmaster, it probably hasn't held up well, although i have rewatched that (including your video on it). I don't really have a list, but Ready Player One jumps out as one that really didn't live up to the book, and could have been done as a mini series or in 2 movies, to fit in a lot of the stuff they missed out.

I love this, more please. 🙂

I have heard a lot of people say RP1 was a disappointing adaptation. Like True Grit, I am 100% on board with films that are not necessarily remakes of other films, but made again to more closely align with strong source material.

I hate Marvel Comic movies with (fill in the blank) and part 20....Hollywood is lazy and you are so right

Natural Born Killers was just "violence porn" in my view. My wife is a former forensic psychiatrist who hunted serial killers , predators, and extremists....there is nothing "sexy" about these people they are only fascinating since they are so "Weird"

I like some of them (although you're right, most are complete tripe now), but we definitely live in a world where we just have to face the fact that not only will some of these franchises never die, but they will take up a majority of the screens at our theaters forever.

I hate Football. You'll ask why did I say that? My wife and I have been married over 25 years and every Sunday pre-pandemic while the theaters were empty on Sunday as people would be glued to NFL games- we would go to the movies- so would see 40+ films a year until that got disrupted by COVID lockdowns so am a bit of a film snob

I hear you. Our local theaters have movie passes, and I would love to get one (could save some real money), but between how busy we are and how SO many of the screens are taken up with whatever Disney property is playing, I don't know if I could make it work.

Now I want to watch The Last Starfighter. I watched it at least 20 times as a kid. Space Camp for me was one of those 80s movies that would be cool if made with today’s technology.

I LOVED Space Camp when I was a kid. I doubt the "kids test the shuttle" or "my friend the robot" aged well, but it was delightful!

It wasn’t exactly realistic then either. I begged to go to space camp, but we didn’t have the money.

World War Z I'd like to see remade, I like the Brad Pitt movie, but it's a bad adaptation of a great book. Another one is Master & Commander: The far side of the world, based on the book series by Patrick O’Brian, this is a weird one because I absolutely love that movie. But it failed at the box office because it was programmed against LOTR: Return of The King. And it's such a shame, as it had the potential to be a great franchise. Then I'd like to give The Great Gatsby a better shot than the 2013 version by Baz Luhrmann. But one that absolutely needs a remake is Ender's Game, for some reason they made it into a movie for children, rather than a movie about children.

Yes, to remaking NBK and Ice Pirates (as a kid I thought this movie was SO hilarious). 💯 on a Krull remake! During the MySpace era of the internet, I spent WAY too much time on one particular blog defending the aspects of originality in Krull’s story. I still haven’t reconciled if I should be proud of or embarrassed by this investment of time🤣. I think a Wrinkle in Time could be redone to capture more of the interesting philosophical themes of the book, which could better set up the ability to better film next two books in the series. I also think it would be interesting to see if a movie like 9 to 5 could be made through a more modern cultural lens. I’d also love to see some remakes that actually course correct the plot. For example, a remake of Pretty in Pink where she doesn’t end up in a hideous dress and with the wrong guy (not necessarily in that order #TeamDucky), or a Little Shop of Horrors with original stage ending. I also have a wishlist of movies that I’d love to see remade with The Muppets: The Princess Bride Xanadu Dune Clue I’ll leave my (many🤣) thoughts on remakes at that, but this video was a delight, Kevin. I personally wouldn’t be mad if you decided to do more of these.
