As you probably surmised, this was planned at the first half of an hourlong episode, the same way seasons 2 and 3 began with one. But NBC scheduled only the usual time slot, so it had to be split up into halves.

yes, the 1-877 kars for kids jingle was from a real commercial - although i never saw or heard of it until i moved to the northeast. people really hate it, so it's a great official song for the bad place. and the motivational thing michael tried to do with the dead eyes, etc. was a riff on "clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose" from friday night lights.

It took me a few minutes to remember why I *didn't* remember Linda. "I have been Derek'd. Murder has been me" is another one of the many lines from this show I can't get out of my head.

i remembered - i know a few of us were suggesting it a while back as a future series for the channel. 🙂

My hardest laugh watching the whole show was when they started singing the Kars for Kids commercial! I'd never heard it before I moved to New York, but it is EVERYWHERE here, and presumably in LA as well (at least if you watch live tv or listen to the radio).

KARS 4 KIDS was everywhere, all the time. You guys really dodged a bullet there. :D

Omg the KARS 4 KIDS song is truly like nails on a chalkboard, lol... I feel jealous of everyone who hasn't heard it.

I live in northern California and the Kars 4 Kids commercial plays incessantly on the local sports radio. It is the bane of my existence. Every time I hear the first notes of the jingle I leap for the radio and switch it off. The station must know by now that they lose listeners every time they play it. And yes, you should try watching "Deadwood", at least the first season. Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane are amazing.

Jeff

Yes, the demonic habits of the Bad Place are eternal.

You can put FNL on the watch list for when you're done with The Wire, as the next landmark bit of Michael B. Jordan juvenalia :) (I don't think it's too much of a spoiler to say he shows up at some point in that show although not immediately - so you could start even before you're done with The Wire tbh) Spoilers for anyone who's seen The Wire: V xabj, gurl pbhyq fgneg evtug njnl ohg V pna uneqyl gryy gurz gung pna V
