A lot of people think of "filler episodes" as a bad term, but that's exactly what this was. An episode that could probably have been placed in any season at any time in the season and would have fit. No overall arc in play. I personally liked it a lot - fillers don't have to be bad. Originally airing on February 18, 2004, 'An Khe' is Episode 14 of Season 5 of The West Wing. It is the 103rd episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 7.6, placing it as the #13 ranked episode of this season and #93 out of all the episodes shown so far.

This episode is in my top ten and I think underrated. The ending scene breaks my heart every time…. There are some really good episodes in these last seasons and I’m glad you guys are enjoying them. Of course, I love them all😊

Well - it looks like they watched it today and accidently posted it here - it's gone now but I did watch the next episode with them before it was deleted. All I'll say is.... Ryan Pierce is my least favorite West Wing character and it's not close - bugs me in so many ways. Guess I don't think exactly like J&K after all :) also #betterthanbradpitt - you'll know next week

Abby Bartlett said she would not practice medicine and voluntarily give up her license for their duration in the White House. So yeah, it’s a nice thing she’s doing, but it is going back on her word (in a way).

Definitely, right? It's a commendable action (it's not like there is just too darn much available healthcare going around in high poverty areas in America), but I think it would cause at least some political problems (by drudging up the MS scandal again in the press).

Ah! We haven't really seen them together, but when actors have great chemistry (as I am assuming they do), it's nice when they get to work together more than once.

I agree with Joy M, and with Taylor Reed in sense. Abby was being investigated formally by the medical board, for actions when treating her own husband for MS, which were against the rules as a doctor. This investigation was closed with a deal: the board closed the procedure, because Abby gave up her medical licence for the term of Jed's presidency (including a second one, should he win again) on a voluntary basis. She gave up her licence on a voluntary basis (in the sense that she was not legally bound to do so), but she did give it up. So, basically, she is volunteering in a free clinic, vaccinatig children, without a licence (because she gave that up). I know she is completely qualified to do so, but it is a big deal. We need licences for certain activities, icluding and especially for acting as a doctor. We need formal control over such practices.

I personally think that Ryan Pierce is a sort of a "younger" version of Josh / or Josh was like him at Ryan's age, only less rich, less powerful and less popular apparently according to what the both of them shared from Harvard memories. That's why Josh is infuriated by Ryan. Because he IS infuriating (not unlike Josh btw) AND he has it all. I like Ryan bc he's not a complete jackass to Josh, I think he genuinly like him, he helped save the face during the "on the bench thing" when he didn't have to. He's not the worst to me but he's definitely arrogant.

Joy I find you much more tolerable than Taylor Reid LMAO. I get it, we just have the luxury of seeing their perspective so we know that they are amazing people. However, I can see how it looks to the public and it's not great. She did indeed give it up!
