So from what I understand, there were rumors about Cosby for DECADES, and it was a bit of an open secret he was a monster but that no one could prove it so they stayed silent other than the occasional joke or quip. Same with Kevin Spacey, there were several shows of this time like this, family guy, arrested development, gossip girl even a few others which made similar jokes about both of them, it wasn’t until the #metoo movement that any of it came out into public focus and these episodes seem much darker upon reflection.

Hannibal Buress was a writer on 30 Rock, though I don't know if he had anything to do with this episode. Us olds remember the Cosby stuff being in the news in the 90s, but everyone seemed to forget about it because the criminal case was covered up.

It remains a hilarious running joke that Dot Com makes Jack feel intellectually insecure.

If you remember waaaaaaaaay back in season one, episode three Liz said that she was afraid to be single because no one would would be able to rescue her if she was choking. So... obviously Drew wasn't going to last.

Your utterly shocked reaction to them calling out Cosby had me laughing the hardest I think I've laughed at anything this year. I mostly remembered Jon Hamm's character for this episode, so it was actually surprising to me watching along this time that he seemed reasonably intelligent in his previous episodes. Bit of a retcon to write him off the show really, but it's so funny I forgive it.

It's one of the best bits on this show and him just being completely oblivious to it. The Cosby thing is insane

I wasn't aware of it in the 90s but I knew about him being on trial in the mid-2000s because at the time I lived in a town not far from his house in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts. At the time the attitude in the area was so different, no one was thinking even if he was convicted that it would irreparably taint his reputation. And this was in one of the most liberal areas of the country. It was only years later that public opinion started to shift (rightfully) to the idea that yeah, if you're an abuser, that should be your legacy. Being on a popular TV show isn't more important than that.

The Cosby thing was a well known "secret" for decades amongst comedians. It was actually the comic Hannibal Buress who called him out in his stand up special that got the ball rolling that led to his convictions.

He'd been doing it for about six months, but this one really got attention. On October 16, 2014, at the Philadelphia club The Trocadero, Buress was recorded doing an extended routine about sexual assault allegations against comedian Bill Cosby.[24] Buress addressed Cosby's legacy of "talk[ing] down" to young black men about their style of dress and lifestyle. Buress criticized the actor's public moralizing by saying: "Yeah, but you raped women, Bill Cosby, so that kind of brings you down a couple notches." When the audience responded to Buress's accusation with incredulity (Philadelphia being Cosby's home town), he encouraged everyone to search for "Bill Cosby rape" on Google when they got home
