Mr. Ruggerio's Neighborhood: PETER GUNN! That was the song!

> "Buon anima” is an Italian phrase that means "God rest his/her soul". For example, “mio nonno buonanima” translates to "my grandfather, God rest his soul". The word “anima” in Italian can also mean "soul" or "inhabitant". For example, “un'anima in pena” means "a tormented soul" and “anima gemella” means "soul mate" <

Meadow's dorm at Columbia, "What's with all the sirens?" ... Yup that's what Manhattan sounds like. :)

I thought it was pretty cool when it first aired, personally. David Chase DOES love to fuck with expectations. He almost never gives you exactly what you want, which is always sort of thrilling for me, because he ends up giving me what I didn’t know I wanted instead. Happens again and again on this show. It’s like he makes a list of everything a viewer might expect to happen next, gives it to his writers, and says, “Here are ten expected outcomes. Pick two. Everything else, we need to zigzag on.”

There was a full year between the end of season 2 and the start of season 3. After that, there was a year and a half between seasons, creating an unhappy, impatient fandom who eventually were pretty satisfied with what they finally got. Even though there were six seasons, the series ran for eight and a half years.

I get the impatience for sure. AMC did those weird, long breaks in the middle of seasons. Might as well have just called them new seasons.

Youtalkingtome

Definitely true. The way Richie died was so wonderfully unexpected yet perfect on reflection. I expect more of the same going forward.

Kevin: 9/11 IS addressed in the show- I'll leave it at that

Living in Manhattan DOES sound like Meadow's dorm until you get used to the noise of rattling empty trucks, sirens etc which wind up becoming white noise if you live high up enough. Rents on side streets are MUCH higher than on major avenues or cross streets. When I moved to Long Island 47 miles east of Manhattan, ironically I was kept awake by the sounds of woodpeckers, owls, raccoons rummaging through garbage pails at 4am and dogs barking at each other from different yards- again until THAT became white noise too

In the episode title Mr. Ruggierio is BOTH the plumber who fixes the water heater incident, but in real life the Feds DID bug a Mr. Ruggierio to help bring down John Gotti

The Mashup is interesting since its Peter Gunn and The Police's Every Breath You Take...both literally "Police songs" and the subject of the latter is watching you like a stalker ...and we also hear "Hi Fidelity" by Elvis Costello when the Feds are listening to Carmella and Tony with the bug. And you are right about lots of non-opera music since you hear Steely Dan's "Dirty Work" and The Eagles' "Hotel California" so a pretty expensive episode from a licensing point of view!

It's a general rule of wire taps that they can't be continuous bugs- which forces the surveillance team to be on for X amount of time, then off, then back on

Youtalkingtome

Between this and The Wire, I find the general rules (plus the Judicial overwatch of how the police are allowed to survey people) incredibly fascinating.

Cost is a really big issue for productions for sure. Films, even blockbusters, struggle with committing large sums of money for music rights, so for a television series to do so here must have been a huge financial commitment.

I had completely forgotten that Meadow's dorm would be in Manhattan, so of course the noise outside would be pure chaos.

The actress portraying Meadow’s roommate is Ari Graynor, who just portrayed Leslie Abramson in the Menedez miniseries on Netflix.

As a huge comedy snob, Golden Girls has to be one of the best written sitcoms of all time. Obviously way ahead of it's time with the subjects discussed (and always on the right side of history) as well as the jokes and performances that hold up almost 40 years later. Absolutely brilliant.

I always liked that they called the house the "Sausage Factory" lol

I enjoyed it. I think the actors were very good in their roles. It was not a good as the OJ or the Dahmer miniseries Murphy produced. If you like Ryan Murphy’s style and take some of the story with a little “grain of salt” I think you might it enjoy it as an afternoon binge watch.

The FBI is about to become a major character in the series, especially for one character.

Sirens… it’s Manhattan. Meadow is at Columbia University, 116th & Broadway. I spent 1 year in NYC compared to my 23 in LA and I heard more 🚨 in my one short year in NY, than my two plus decades in Los Angeles.
