- My second favorite movie ever and my favorite piece of screenwriting ever. Chayefsky is my writing hero. Definitely check out The Hospital too if you can find it. - Every time I watch this and Peter Finch starts the "mad as hell" speech, I can't help but start crying. It's just such an overwhelming piece of writing, acting, and directing that it takes my breath away. - Network is one of only two movies that got Oscar nominations in all four acting categories (along with A Streetcar Named Desire). And until a couple years ago, those two movies were also the only two to have wins in three of the four (Everything Everywhere All at Once joined that elite club in 2022). - I wish Chayefsky was still around to comment on the news today. I thought of this movie a lot in 2016, especially when Les Moonves said the quiet part out loud -- that Trump's candidacy might not be good for America, but it was damn good for CBS. - This was adapted into a stage version and I got to see it a few years ago. It starred Bryan Cranston as Howard, Tony Goldwyn as Max and Tatiana Maslany as Diana. It was a really incredible production and Bryan Cranston was -- unsurprisingly -- amazing.

Also, some notes on the smaller roles in the cast: - I always forget that Lance Henriksen is in this movie. He's one of the lawyers in the negotiation meeting with Laureen Hobbs and the Great Ahmed Kahn. - Three actors from this movie also appeared on The West Wing. The associate producer who whispers "they want to know what the f**k is going on" when Howard first goes off script is played by Kenneth Kimmins, who was in "Full Disclosure" as one of the people in the meeting about closing military bases. Paul Jenkins (one of the stage managers) was in the episode you guys just watched ("Access") as the former press secretary who talks about the flak jacket. And Marlene Warfield (Laureen Hobbs) was in the very first episode as Leo's maid, though you can barely see her because she's only in the background.

Brilliant and apt critique of the MSM and right wing hate radio/FOX BEFORE Roger Ailes had pushed it out- saw it in summer 1976 at age 10 when first released, after having watched Watergate unfold on the news in summer 1974 at age 8- so yes I have been political my whole life!

Saw a stage adaptation this summer, was really fun! Too bad I don't have a copy or streaming option to watch along. :( prime wont even let it rent here, hate regions. Oh, well, waiting for a youtube cut.

We'll have it out soonish! Full schedule of editing. I hate that this movie isn't more readily available. Maybe the most important film of the 20th century? Definitely as prescient now as it was then.

To be alive and aware of current events then. I would have been as mad as hell! Not saying things are much better now. To have brave screenwriters and filmmakers making films about the counterculture then must have felt extraordinary.

Wow, love the cross over. I know, I love seeing Lance Henrikesen in this. Must have been one of his first roles

I am obsessed with this screenplay as well.. Every single detail is flawless. I can't find The Hospital and I don't wanna stream it illegally. As soon as I find a blu ray for it I will snatch it up. I don't know if you could tell but yes I started to tear up as well. It's one of those rare moments in cinematic history. This is what movies can do. This is what they can and should aspire to be. Ultimate expression while voicing the frustrations and concerns of the filmmaker. It's a perfect film. I bet the stage production was out of this world.
