Game Day

MrRuss50

this opening always made me laugh. After all the beef with Omar the contract on his life has only made it to 10k but Avon is willing to drop 20k on the one basketball player for one game lol.

Clarke Peters (who plays Lester) is such a great actor. Relatively recently, he's been in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri and the Spike Lee film Da Five Bloods. He's done a lot of stage work, too -- including a production of Othello, where he played the title role and Dominic West (McNulty) played Iago.

Mithroch

I think I've mentioned before, he and Wendell Pierce (Bunk) are in David Simon's next series, Treme.

Prop Joe, the big guy in the suit was played by Bobby Chew a local acting teacher who had a passion for using arts as a path off the corner for kids with potential like Wallace. The actor playing Sidnor was one of his students as well as many of the minor characters and extras. Sadly Bobby is another Wire actor who died fairly young.

At the time this was filmed there were about 12,000 vacant homes in Baltimore City, that number is much higher now since Baltimore loses thousands of residents each year to the surrounding suburbs. Even with that the lack of traffic is the most glaring reminder that this is a production. Baltimore like most big cities isn’t easy to drive in.

Clarke peters, and Isaiah Whitlock, Jr. who plays Clay Davis starred in Da 5 Bloods a Spike Lee movie about Vietnam veterans. (Maybe a good Veterans Day movie pick)

Roland Cooke

Proposition Joe (the basketball suit) is played by Robert Chew, who was the main acting coach for all the kid actors on The Wire. You'll be seeing more of Chew's impressive talent in due course.

Brian Harris

Bobby Chew is underrated on this show. My favorite is Andre Royo (Bubs), and Clarke Peters is a close second, and everybody loves Omar, but Prop Joe is a top 5 character for me easily.

I have often wondered about the music in The Wire, and how accurate it would be. But I'm not gonna lie, I love every time they pull out Spearhead and especially in this bit with Rock the Nation sounding out from Avon's car.

Not familiar with the music they have played. I wonder if they consider songs based off how expensive the rights are. Not saying HBO can't afford it!
