Pre-reaction comment. Sorry guys I just love talking about stories. This was the first one people didn't really like, but a lot of it came from the market, which portrayed it as a horror. I think the reason everyone has a problem with M Knight partly comes from the way they look at films. Most people look at the narrative plot (beginning, middle, end) as the be all end all of the film. So, when the "twist" doesn't go over well, most people feel let down. But the point of the twist isn't just to surprise. It informs the MUCH more important part of the movie, which is the "why" it happened instead of the "what" happened. Watching some behind the scenes/ commentary can be really illuminating. For example, with the Sixth Sense, the twist really is only one aspect. The rest of the film is about communication. The movie has a good resolution around that theme, where Cole can communicate with his mom and the ghosts, and Malcom gets to communicate his goodbye to anna. For signs, spoilers I guess, the movie is about faith, and following the literal signs from god. The twist is that those negative things in his life were actually all signs for this moment. I'm not really faithful so it doesn't really resonate in that way, but I can still appreciate it.

I completely agree with you about the 6th Sense. As I say leading in, I think Toni Collette's character (and her incredible performance) are what I took away most from the movie. Obviously some of his movies work and some clearly don't, but there is some really good photography and and bold swings in his films.

Great reaction! The Village is one of my favorite movies, and I love the fairy tale love story, people talk about the twist which is neat but there's just such a beautiful score and great performances. Ivy Walker is one of my favorite female characters, she's so pure and brave. I love watching it from time to time just for the love story and the tragedy. It was definitely clunky exposition at the end and I think all of the shack scene could be cut and it would work just as well if you just see the guard interacting with Ivy and getting the medicines offscreen. This is by far my favorite M. Night Shaymalan movie but Trap was also pretty enjoyable.

Another attempt to recapture the Sixth Sense Magic which was not as good. Not terrible but not great

I don't know, I thought it was pretty great. Not as good as The Sixth Sense but the filmmaking and acting was incredible. Just a different flavor. We all go into one of his movies expecting a twist and this one didn't disappoint IMO. We can agree that it was better than Lady in the Water right?
