This show has its funny moments but nothing beats Omar on the stand. Comedy gold.

Stringer better watch his mouth talking about go go like that. We don’t listen to the wack ass club music they play up in Baltimore. Like my man said he needs to get Stringer down to a better part of Md(but not actually Oxon hill) and up in a go go.

"The Greeks called him Ares. Same guy, different name is all." "I got the shotgun, you got the briefcase. All in the game though, right?" Love the writing on this show!

I don't know what was intended with the scene between Frank and Ziggy, and it is a nice father-son moment but I feel it's also a scene of Ziggy playing Frank in a way that kind of illustrates their relationship. Because what gets resolved in that scene, really? Nothing. Frank starts out chewing Ziggy out for his attitude, and Ziggy reminisces about the past of the docks and the men who worked it, which mollifies Frank. But why does it? Ziggy might genuinely love that life and want to be part of it, but we know he's bad at it and the whole thing Frank was chewing him out over was him having an attitude that's completely antithetical to it. Did this conversation help him get closer to being that guy he talks about wanting to be, or help Frank understand why Ziggy acts the way he does? I don't think it did. And I think Frank was mollified less because that conversation did anything than because he likes thinking about the old days a lot more than he likes thinking about what to do about his son. Even if the conversation did also make both feel like there was something they shared. It felt less like a profound father-son conversation and more like a boy knowing what buttons to push to get his father off his back, and a father being low-key happy to let him do it.

Omar taking the stand and being basically the only one up to this point to knock that greasy lawyer down and beat him at his own game just makes him a legendary character, and shows that he has the capacity for much more than being a predator with a shotgun prowling the streets for drug money. He stunlocked Levy, and you love to see it. And the scene just before that was a taste with Omar helping with the crossword puzzle. I love how good this show is for a police show, one of the most facile subjects in television and rehashed so many times, but in this show they actually approached it in such a way that it's one of the most memorable things you can experience on tv, and leaves no part of the systematic problems untouched. I believe We Own This City about baltimore police corruption attempted to be like the wire and it wasn't even close, but then again I believe it is also trying to tell a true story.

You really gave D'Angelo the karma kiss of death, didn't you! 🤣

It definitely develops in a weird way, but I think it's meant to be awkward. Frank doesn't really know how to approach talking to his son because he normally just shouts at him or ignores him. He tries about three different tacks before Ziggy intervenes and steers the conversation elsewhere. We also get some interesting backstory about Frank keeping Zig around the docks when he could have sent him to community college and possibly into a life he was more suited for.

Omar really plays that trial to perfection from a tactical standpoint. He's so honest about everything else, even when it theoretically reflects badly on him, that the jury and judge obviously have no reason to doubt his credibility in regards to the shooting (which is the one thing he's lying about). Also, he knows the Barksdales can't expose him as a liar about his actual reasons for testifying without also admitting they're responsible for torturing and killing Brandon. Levy of all people calling someone "amoral" is crazy work. 😂

Judge Phelan roasting Bird at the end was great too. Man needed to starting performing miracles ASAP.

Boardwalk Empire is a great show, at least the first 3 seasons. Maybe the best set design in history, which is a high bar for HBO. You know you need to reevaluate your life a little when Sergei comes calling.
