The bathroom scene has to be one of my favorites. Absolutely devastating acting from Martin. Really makes you feel Bartlet's frustration and anguish at his illness. Tears every time.

“Donna get me Bruce Willis on the line!." I almost spat out my water, Joe, lol. Josh has always taken Donna for granted and I'm glad she's pursuing other opportunities as she should. The range of Martin Sheen's acting this episode was amazing. One minute his humour was on fire and the next we have that compelling bathroom scene. This episode definitely feels transitional and I can't wait.

Fun little bit of casting trivia: the guy who plays the American interpreter -- with the gray hair, beard and glasses -- is William Hootkins, who among other roles played the fighter pilot "Porkins" in the first Star Wars. He also had a small role in Raiders of the Lost Ark and played the slimy cop Eckhardt in Burton's '89 Batman. Love how Donna levels up here. You can tell even from the first scene that she's done. I kind of wonder if Josh suspected she was thinking of leaving and that's why he kept putting off talking to her. This must be the stealthiest Christmas episode of the whole series. The bare minimum of decorations and maybe three mentions of Christmas. Still managed to pack an emotional wallop with that scene in the bathroom.

You are not going to be disappointed seeing Josh in campaign mode.

Not wanting to give anything away, but I had question about whether you would ever do a live reaction to an episode. Season 7 Episode 7 of The West Wing was a live to air episode of television, and I think it would be great if you guys did a live reaction to the live episode.

Brian Harris

This is the beginning of a really excellent run through the rest of the season. It’s getting harder and harder to stop at one episode. 😂

MrRuss50

Way way way back in Season 1 Joe mentioned he would be really interested in how this show handles campaigns. I thought at the time, boy I cant wait till mid Season 6. Almost there!

Heather

This is a great Martin Sheen episode. We’re about to get to a point where the show splits in two, basically. You have the White House show and then you have the campaign show.

Youtalkingtome

We can talk about the logistics of doing that. I think we'd be worried about something going wrong. Plus we have never done that before

Youtalkingtome

No way? That was Porkins?? Yeah, it wasn't until I saw a reef in the background that I realized it was Christmas.

I would watch an Armageddon/West Wing crossover. Martin Sheen was incredible. Jed has internalized so much this season. Finally reaching his breaking point was really moving.

Daniel Lydford

I completely understand. Just wanted to put the idea out there to see what you guys thought.

This episode is where the entire back end of the series turned, in my opinion. They finally had a goal, and a destination to aim for. No more throwing things against the wall to see if they stick. There are some hiccups still, but it is a significant improvement from the entirety of 5 and the start of 6.

The biggest issue is, where would you do it live? On YT, you cannot just broadcast the whole episode live to react to. So, the logistics would be kinda difficult. But I love the idea! If you can SOMEHOW make it work, it would be great!

phenomenal scene. Jed's short monologue is incredibly well written, and Sheen's acting is just superb. Abbey as well, just her physical acting - worrying, trying to help, fumbling... they really nailed that scene. Huge emotional punches.

Love the episode. They did the sorkinesque roller-coaster of emotions, highs&lows so well. how things can start on frustration, go into desperation, then achieve an emotional climax, a victory, to end with a pinch of 'but at what cost'... just good writing. Also, the Donna-Josh thing, I just think they really managed to nail their relationship and Josh's character so well. How he is just biologically incapable of considering that Donna is really quitting, moving on. Oh, special shout-out this episode to Leo. He is also so perfectly coming back to support and lead, disarming the VP single-handedly, being there as Bartlet's shadow.

That scene always has me tearing up. I kind of had forgotten about it and once the scene started with Abby taking to him from the other room I remembered and had to mentally prepare. Wonderful acting and from personal experience the emotions are dead on.

Weird Magic

I saw somebody try to do a reaction live on Twitch too - about 4 minutes in - Twitch shut him down. Love the thought but I'm not aware of any way to get around copyright

With every Series there are several scenes that one thinks of when someone else mentions it - the Martin Sheen in the bathroom is one that pops up for me. Originally airing on December 15, 2004, 'Impact Winter' is Episode 9 of Season 6 of The West Wing. It is the 120th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 8.5, placing it as the #2 ranked episode of this season and #32 out of all the episodes shown so far.

I love the godfather-esque moment of Abby shutting the door on CJ and Toby, it feels like the door closing on presidency as we know it. This whole episode is that really - there's no going back now. Donna's leaving is a big part of that. I don't think Josh is so egotistical that he thinks she's sticking around for him (though I ship them so obviously I think he loves her and can't handle it), but I think he genuinely believes they are both sticking around for the president - and her leaving is the final realisation that it's now or never. Also shoutout to new Bodyman Curtis! The only guy who can walk in Charlie's shoes!

Oh this episode. It’s so good, but that bathroom scene always gets me. As someone with two autoimmune diseases, I actually looked up if Martin Sheen had any experience with them in his own life because the acting for it is so on point that it’s almost difficult for me to watch. Feeling that helpless while knowing there’s nothing you can do to make it better is equal parts terrifying and rage-inducing, and he portrayed it perfectly. I’m always astonished he never won an Emmy for this role.

The end of this episode always puts a smile on my face ☺️

Btw I have seen a good amount of episodes of "The Blacklist". It's really not that bad! But it's reaaaaally too long. The 5 first seasons are good. Afterwards, it really deteriorates imo. I gave up around season 6 or 7. Alan Alda does indeed a very remarkable appearance...lol

Aude M

there's a very endearing anecdote from the actor who played Curtis about that scene and his relationship with Martin Sheen. Told on the TWWW Podcast ;)
