Jake

hell yeah my dudes let's go

"On location" for NH is about 20-30 minutes north of Toronto for the NH swing of the campaign

Actually, the recaps are still showed if you have the DVD File box set (that I got a while ago). Sad that you're not having them on HBO Max anymore :-(

Devon Cooper

So glad you are hyped about the campaign arc! It’s gonna be fun!!

Cristy

To say I've been chomping at the bit for these upcoming reactions is an understatement lol, can't wait to watch.

Joy M

I purchased the series on Prime and have the re-caps, strange that you guys don’t. Where would Donna be in the Santos campaign working under Josh? Making reservations or working in media relations?

Sly_Budlong

What an amazing reaction to this episode, especially since it is mostly focused on Santos! I do notice some parallels with Santos' campaign and Bartlet's since Bartlet was in the race to raise issues as well, and I've always wondered if Leo had the same reaction if he and Bartlet ever had the same conversation Josh and Santos had 🤔 They even started off the same, in a small storefront and not with a lot of funding either!

Laura Room

The campaign is such a fun ride. And great to break out of the usual, though beautiful, white house sets.

Cristy

"Russell might have the letter opener but what’s in the envelope?" If that doesn’t sum up Bob Russell, I don’t know what does, lol. I love Annabeth Gish (Liz) I feel like she was so underused in the show but Bartlett is right her husband is a pinhead. I love these campaign episodes outside the West Wing (like in season four), I feel like it gives the show some of the renewal it needs in season six.

Cosmic Slice

Seeing the campaign from the very ground up perspective on the show is something I never get tired of. This was so fascinating toe back when it aired and there is so much cool stuff to come. I doubt that anyone these days sets up shop in a sporting good storefront or stays in cheap motels...

This is one of my favorite episodes for this season because it starts out like Santos is the completely unreasonable one but when we learn more about him, he truly is a good person who wants what is best for the country and people. It's honestly a parallel to Bartlet's first campaign where his staff (other than Toby) were telling him to play politics about raising milk prices but he was honest instead. It really shows that Santos could be the guy.

Cristy

Exactly! Donna wouldn't be working in media relations. Will is really annoying but at least he sees what Donna can do.

Darrell Henry

Love this episode and your reaction was great. I loved Bartlet and his daughter stepping in just to make sure Santos got a fair shot.

Roland Cooke

Not for nothing, but I'm basically glad that there's a real-life shift away from Iowa and New Hampshire as the kick-off states. I like both of those places, but constituent-wise, I'm not sure either is really representative of anything other than themselves, and that serves to hobble candidates who might otherwise have viability.

- In season 3/4, we were covering a campaign for an incumbent, which is a different animal. They didn't have to deal with primaries, because Bartlet was unopposed, and they had nearly limitless resources. This is much more like the brief glimpses we get of Bartlet's *first* campaign -- notably that VFW appearance where Josh first sees him. - I love how Santos kind of mirrors Bartlet from the early days, in that he got into the campaign to bring attention to issues, not really imagining he could actually win. - Every time I watch this episode, I'm confused as to why Josh burns the matchbook with the figures from Bartlet on it. - [rot13 for spoilers] Gur fprar jvgu Jvyy jneavat Wbfu ntnvafg tbvat artngvir ernyyl frgf hc gur fprar arkg frnfba jurer Wbfu pna'g uver Qbaan. Ah, I was excited for this episode. Marks the start of a whole new chapter, and I love that it's such a come down from this incredible powerful life Josh has had for the entire time we've known him. From receptions with the president to boxed wine in a sporting goods store and a Temu version of Donna (Just kidding! I love Ronna!) I think the matchbook burning shows that both he and Santos currently have their weaknesses - Santos is determined to run an idealised campaign in which everyone engages with the issues, and Josh is determined to stay loyal to the president, even at the expense of his candidate. And no spoilers, but don't worry, you are 100% going to get Vinick content in some form!

Youtalkingtome

Right, love how we get this new perspective and it is an amazing parallel to the beginning of Bartlett's campaign. I think closing out the show in this way is genius

Youtalkingtome

I think he could be! He has to decide that for himself first. Besides we have to see more of Vinick, he seems so formidable.

the difference between what was Presidential politics and what IS today is stark and scary. -Will wasnt talking about Josh in a Russel admin. He was talking about how all top Dem operatives would be working for the Russel campaign when the General begins. There is a line later on where a campaign person says they dont care about who they worked for, its "All hands on deck time". Thats what Will is pointing at. When its Democrat vs. Republican, Josh is a D, and he will be working for the D candidate one way or another.

Youtalkingtome

Max can be frustrating. Love that they have a great library but man this service irritates me sometimes.

Skinny_Obelix

Regarding the recaps, my version of The West Wing has recaps for every single episode, so don't look too much into the fact they have or haven't got a recap.

Balazs Foldes

The matchbook thing: I think it just says, Josh is up to anything to successfully campaign for Santos - except attacking Bartler or his record. This is not a tactic he is willing to take, even if Bartlet himself is offering it,

dys

Yeah Santos was just ahead of the times on that observation

dys

Not quite as egregious as The Last of Us using Alberta mountain wilderness to stand in for 10 miles west of Boston...
