One of my favorite movies of all time, and deeply underrated. Emma Thompson, Will Farrell, and Dustin Hoffman are each perfect. It’s a shame this movie never won any awards or attention because it deserved both

Oh I'm so happy to see this movie reaction! This one has stuck with me ever since I first saw it for it's quirky charm and magical realism. The flours line just kills me! As an author myself, I feel like the writers and Emma Thompson perfectly capture the affection and responsibility I feel towards my characters. Sometimes I create them, and sometimes they create themselves and I just try to keep up.

I love this movie. I always kind of stupidly melt when he brings her the flours. LOL I can think of one other drama film that had Will Ferrell in it and that was Winter Passing, which also starred Ed Harris and Zooey Deschanel. It came out the same year this one did. It wasn't a bad movie at all but I absolutely hated it and have never watched it again.

This was my pick, loved your reaction. This movie has a way of just making you feel good. I loved that you guys didn't predict that the author and main character both existed in the same "real" world. You could say that premise was "Stranger than Fiction" (sorry).

I have loved this movie since the first time I saw it. It's just so underrated. If I'm having a particularly hard time, I revisit this. Its hopeful message about life is so rare. And there are actresses that keep going in their careers. Jane Fonda still does exceptional work. You should *really* think about doing Grace & Frankie reactions for a future TV show. Sally Field, Meryl Streep, Jamie Lee Curtis, Angela Bassett, Bette Midler, Sarah Paulson...more actresses are breaking through the ageism blockade. Likely due to older women like Reese Witherspoon and the late Nora Ephron making the movies

I was wondering how this movie would be perceived from a writers point of view. I'm really glad that it resonates. It's utterly fantastic

Punny! Thank you so much for picking this. What a great film, sometimes you gotta get a little emotional in the morning lol

Right on both accounts! This is an underrated movie and so many actresses are still putting out great work today.

Maggie Gyllenhaal is not a "traditionally" beautiful Hollywood actress, but she is quite stunning in this movie. She killed with the facial expressions, especially when she realized that he had almost died to save a little boy. -Emma manages to go from manic crazy to her usual amazing self in this movie at the end. -Spoon really was amazing doing the music.

Such a great underrated movie! Caught this on tv years ago and couldn’t remember the plot but just the great chemistry with Maggie and Will. Gave it a rewatch before watching your reactions and I was as equally confused about if the characters were all in the same universe. I haven’t seen Walter Mitty and might have to give it a watch-I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.

It's definitely a special one for me. Other literary themed favourites of mine include the 10 episode series The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair where an author played by Patrick Dempsey is implicated in a murder investigation, and the film The Ghost Writer about a memoirist helping a former UK prime minister write his autobiography, based on a Robert Harris novel. For more of Emma Thompson being fantastic, definitely check out Saving Mr Banks about the adaptation of Mary Poppins and the creative differences between Disney and the author.

Great movie, its actually my favorite Will Ferrell movie
