Wire3 1

Comments

trenton gragg

You can definitely tell if a person is a wire fan or game of thrones fan by which character they call Aiden Gillen by first, Carcetti or Little Finger.

Lydia S

that cop you clocked as being actually from baltimore is played by the real life Jay Landsman

JENNIFER E

Every Wire fan has a favorite season and S3 is mine. So excited for you to watch! And I don't think it super spoilery to tell Kevin that to Ride of the Valkyries will make an appearance on the show at some point.

dys

My favorite season too. But S4 is nearly tied with it and S5 is a fantastic conclusion.

As a big fan of the Game of Thrones books I was obsessed with following every bit of news as the show was being developed and was incredibly pleased with the news of his casting for Littlefinger.

Baltimore is a majority African-American city and in 1987 elected their first black mayor, and there was a lot of discussion that there wouldn’t be another white mayor again. The first African-American, to serve as mayor who had the job temporarily when the previous long-standing mayor became governor first name was Clarence which they used for the mayor on The Wire. The reason you keep seeing the broken camera in the credits was it took Clark forever to get that shot when he was filming the pilot so they wanted to get their moneys worth

Chad Coleman (Cutty) is a great actor. His Walking Dead character Tyreese was a fan-favorite in the comics, and it was really disappointing that the character was seemingly cut out of the show (it especially hurt that there was a character named "T-Dog" in the early seasons who seemed like he might be intended to be the show version of Tyreese, but was much less interesting at least in the beginning). There was much rejoicing when he was finally introduced several seasons in with Coleman in the role.

Did you see the graffiti on the wall during the opening credits: Bodymore, Moidaland. Love that. 🤩😍

dys

Though Baltimore did actually have a white mayor at the time this was airing, Martin O'Malley. He ran for the 2016 democratic presidential nomination against Hillary and Bernie but made a pretty forgettable showing.

Pam Nail

The guy with the thick Bawlmer accent is played by Jay Landsman -- the real one.

i was giggling during sing street about joe referring to him as littlefinger, because i knew season three was coming and i had referred to him as tommy carcetti through the first couple seasons of game of thrones.

Roland Cooke

Love Poot sticking it to Stringer. 🤣🤣🤣 Reminded me of the briefing in Aliens: "Any questions?" "Yeah, how do I get out of this chickenshit outfit?" 🤣🤣🤣

dys

I’ve never spent time in Baltimore but have learned that any actor on the show who pronounces “you” as “yeuw” is probably actually from there. Prop Joe being another example.

Youtalkingtome

He's littlefinger to me. I will never see him in another role and not think of GOT. Which is a compliment to how freaking good he is on that show. Can't wait to see him here.

I somehow managed to keep watching right to the end even though I didn't really enjoy it after the first few seasons. I've vowed to never let a show sunk cost fallacy me that badly ever again.

If you did an average of all reviews my money would be on season 3 being the highest rated by The Wire fans. More amazing cast, more dimensions to the story more heart more The Wire, and Bunny Colvin in particular is such a great character.

prolifik5

@dys Michael K isn't from there, but he got better at this later on in the show. You could tell he was at least trying to do a Baltimore accent. 😂

Yay Season 3! I've always been as "Season 4 is my favorite" gal myself, I knew Season 3 was popular but I put so little stock in it that when I started this rewatch I couldn't even remember what happened in it. Then after I remembered/looked it up I was like "oh right of course, that *was* a thing wasn't it". Anyway, post-rewatch I think I might have converted to a "Season 3 is my favorite" girlie. And that's all I'll say about that for now. Except maybe for this: Wbr & Xriva raq ba ubj plavpny gurl rkcrpg guvf frnfba gb or, naq V guvax znlor guvf vf jul vg'f zl snibevgr frnfba ba erjngpu: vg'f znlor gur *yrnfg* plavpny Gur Jver trgf. Shout-out to this comment by Joe that cannot be commented spoiler-free: "Qvq fbzrbar xrrc n erpbeq bs gung?"

This is great commentary, that I can't remark on other than with rot13, but someday they'll be able to come back to all the rot13 commentary on shows like this or Buffy.

dys

It kept getting really good, then bad, then really good again, then bad, ad ad nauseam. I dropped it somewhere in season 5. Chad Coleman showed up in the one of the seasons where it was good for a while and that was largely because of him.

dys

@prolifik5 Michael K was Brooklyn born and raised- and I live in Brooklyn now too but I'm a white dude originally from New England, so it's not like I'm going to criticize the authenticity of the Baltimore accent done by a legendary actor like him.

Rozenn Keribin

Thanks ! It's not something I count on because... that would be a lot of commentary to go back to isn't it and they're busy men ^^ one reason I do put commentary in rot13 even if J&K can't read it immediately, other than for other commenters of course, is so I'm more likely to have it in mind & potentially come back to it at later points where it's no longer a spoiler. Like, Joe's comment I HAD to put a marker on because I can't be sure I'll remember a few weeks from now!

Like Daniel said, I go further back with Aiden Gillen, when he played Stuart in the original "Queer as Folk", way back in 1999.
