Not sure you really want to know what has happened to David Milch but if you wanna hear a sad story here goes.. After abrupt ending of Deadwood following Season 3 HBO gave Milch's two next projects a try as well. First one was John from Cincinnati which was a drama based around a surfing family in a poor southern California community where mystical happenings start occurring. Great great ensemble cast(including Garret Dilahunt) but only lasted one season before cancellation due to ratings. Then a couple years later Milch's next show Luck started. It revolved around horse racing at a southern Cali horse track( Santa Anita). Again a great cast headlined by Dustin Hoffman. Michael Mann directed the pilot. The love of horses really shined through in the photography, it was really well shot. Unfortunately there were several horse deaths and Season 2 production was halted and show eventually cancelled due to this. While working on this project Milch was problem gambling at the very track he was using for his show. He lost his entire fortune 10's of millions of dollars in a fairly short time. He went through bankruptcy and 6 or 7 years later finally got a Deadwood movie script made into a movie. Around the same time he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and last I heard was moved into an assisted living facility.

Jack McCall was indeed a real person, and these events are all pretty accurate. Also accurate is the character of Calamity Jane, who was known to be caring and compassionate despite her rough exterior. David Milch did contribute to season 3 of "True Detective", and the last project he worked on was the "Deadwood" movie in 2019.

I have thought about Ian McShane's delivery of "Run for your f***ing life" once a week for the last 20 years.

Just subtly throwing it in here - LOVING YOU GUYS DOING DEADWOOD - but as an earworm - Justified is another great show (with lots of the same actors).

Also yes, Jane is an absolute legend - talks with bad language but that's not all she is about. Trixie also won't give the drugs to her.

Could be fun to do down the road! I can't emphasize enough how much I enjoy seeing Timothy Olyphant in this role
