"Evil Paul Rudd" is Eion Bailey, he was Webster in Band of Brothers.

Yeah early Angel is less of a vampire hunter and more of a vampire stalker

I would just like to propose that instead of waiting until you finish Buffy, you watch Angel concurrently when it starts. There are some really great crossover episodes that tell a more complete story when you watch both. I mean, you can definitely do it completely separately and it won’t hurt anything, but it’s definitely great to watch together.

- I really enjoy this one, and it's one of the better examples of the supernatural as metaphor for adolescent issues, with the hyena-possessed students as classic bullies. - There's some really dark stuff in this episode. I'm always floored at how they have these kids literally eat the principal. - [rot13 for spoilers] V'z thrffvat jr'ir tbg bar zber vageb bs wbxrf nobhg Natry abg qbvat nalguvat. Strong episode for Xander & Willow, gave Nick and Aly some meaty material (pardon the pun!). You mention actors' ages; SMG was 19 and Alyson 22 when filming S1, & both easily passed for younger, but Charisma and Nick were like 26... I think they had to cast the guests & extras to match, so we do indeed end up with a 90210-type situation. (More suspension of disbelief required than with the monsters!) Fitting, since they filmed exteriors at the same school in Torrance.

I must admit, I was a bit shocked at the laughter from Xander saying "Kid's fat," but it is an unexpected line.

Season 1 is definitely the campiest. I love that you’re enjoying it.

So... I hate this episode. 😂 It's in my top 3 least favourite episodes of the entire show. I'm so glad you're having a good time with it, 'cause it actually makes even these lesser episodes a lot of fun to rewatch with you all!

Watching on Disney+ in the UK, it had the voiceover at the beginning of this episode, but not the previous one. Weird!

To be honest, I think that's a decision they'll be able to make when it becomes relevant. At the moment they have no clue what show Angel might be and how and "Buffy" relate to each other but by the time the question of "should we watch Angel & when" actually comes up, they will have a much better idea (the same idea people watching at the time did if nothing else). And it will be easier to talk about it spoiler-free too.

My favorite bit is thinking about the pack after they got their minds back. There's no amount of therapy that will save them.

I'm always so sad for Principal Flutie. He was always set up as ineffectual but potentially good-hearted and not *too* actively hostile to Buffy, and in this episode we get to see a bit more of a relationship between them... and he gets eaten. The sight gag of him reassembling the papers he performatively ripped up after he caught a glimpse at what she'd been expelled for in her previous school is a highlight ^^ I feel the same way about the teacher in "Teacher's Pet", who seems like he'll be a good teacher Buffy might have a positive relationship with and he gets killed right away. These episodes so far all seem to feature a tension between Buffy leading a normal, non-supernatural life and her actual powers & mystic role as a supernatural warrior: the pilot obviously so, but "Witch" has the cheerleading, "Teacher's Pet" has the aforementioned good teacher, "Never Kill a Boy on the first Date" has, well, dating normal boys. Each so far has ended with the "normalcy" option being ripped away for some reason or another. Also: this is a bit of a "toxic masculinity" episode even though it's not *framed* that way (there are girls in The Pack, it's presented as "teenage bully" behavior, but also Giles has that whole testosterone bit doesn't he and, well, Xander's behavior) and it's fun they chose hyenas for that when IIRC the "toxic males" in that species are the females.

"It was like the Heimlich with stripes!" 🤣

> The phrase "beyond the pale" originates from the word "pale" meaning a fence or boundary, most commonly associated with the historical "Pale" in Ireland, which was the area under English control, implying that anything outside this boundary was considered uncivilized or unacceptable, hence "beyond the pale" meaning outside the bounds of acceptable behavior; however, the exact origin is debated and the Oxford English Dictionary suggests it likely refers to a more general concept of a bounded area rather than a specific historical "Pale.". <

I love this episode - the premise is okay, but I like that they actually pushed the envelope with it, killing off not only a recurring character but also a cute animal. Like you said, no one is safe! By the time it gets to them harassing that family, you genuinely don't know if the little boy is going to survive. And the performances are stellar, especially from Nicky and Aly. Nicky has a very naturally sweet smile, so when he keeps his eyes emotionless and just smiles it is CUH-REEPY!

SO creepy! This episode was a lot of weird supernatural fun, which is something I always look forward to in this show. Also, it's incredibly funny to me how Angel, a character who is ostensibly doing nothing in the show, was talked about so much here and he didn't even bother showing up.
