Bullock beating the Sioux warrior was quite a turning point of the show. It really put on display how savage Seth could be if it came to that. And then when Charlie is there when he wakes, telling him about how a bad ass the warrior he just killed was...

"FREE gratis" is one of the many lines that has been stuck in my head since watching this show.

I think Al quite enjoyed his little episode of contributing to the newspaper and was genuinely pondering at the end about his life choices. Deadwood is very funny and every line is gold. You are definitely picking up how some of the characters are just straight up very good and kind people, and I think it's a bit of a unique take on westerns how it's not just violent conflict, a lot of scenes are just people trying to help each other or being good friends. And EB Farnum like Al Swearengen is definitely stealing every scene, fantastic portrayal of a clamy weasel.

This reminds me of GOT for all the reasons you just said. The human interactions are far more compelling than the violence.

An amazing movie with Powers Boothe that you may not have seen (as many haven't) is Frailty. Bill Paxton's directorial debut.

The writing for Al is amazing....like you said, somehow they make him likeable even though he's obviously evil.

Also, "Be fucked!!!" might be my favorite line in the show lol. (Well, up to this point at least).

This is the episode that really clarifies the purpose and direction of the show. How do we make community? What do we owe to each other? How do we decide on the rules for society when there are no rules? How can we enforce those rules and our own place in the community? Everyone thinks I'm nuts, but I have long had a theory that Parks and Rec is just a comedy version of Deadwood.

Just outside of LA is the legendary Melody Film Ranch in Newhall, California. It is filming location of all Deadwood town scenes. Westworld, Last Man Standing, Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, Django, The Lone Ranger, Wyatt Earp, Gunsmoke, Hopalong Cassidy, Annie Oakley, Rin Tin Tin, The Cisco Kid, are some of their notable other productions filmed there. Some of the exterior shots were filmed in Southern California's Los Padres National Forest like that beautiful pilot panoramic of all the wagons going into town that tricked you into thinking no CGI was used, the whole town was VFX. :)

Also, I don't think this is in any way a spoiler, but I've seen it many times and I hardly recognize her....but Kristen Bell in one of her first roles next episode.

It's one of those movies after me and a friend saw it in theaters we couldn't stop talking and dissecting it for several hours. Mostly that was the movie itself, but I can't claim alcohol wasn't also partially to blame lol.
