To this day I have no idea what Bunny was trying to accomplish with that roundup at the gym. Was he really about to publicly announce to a bunch of teenagers that they were now allowed to sell drugs in certain areas? 😂 It's a funny scene but I always find it kind of weird.

Joe - ham sandwich, really? Not beefcake? :)

Hamsterdam! Drugs are NOT actually legal in Amsterdam even now (not even weed), but that is more like the situation Colvin seems to be trying to set up here.

I love how Clay Davis has barely been in this show but he left such an impression that anytime he shows up you guys get excited.

In the school gym! I can only imagine the scuttlebutt in the teachers' lounge after this.

I loved that scary principal, reminded me of my own mother who was a teacher for many years. As a similar badass she didn't have a nickname, she was just Mrs Cooke. 😎

My mother is also a teacher, worked many years in a part of the Atlanta area that was a bit rough; kids affected by gang violence, metal detectors everywhere, but nothing like the Baltimore schools we see here. Still teaches and works with difficult special needs students these days in a school in western Massachusetts that doesn't have those everyday safety concerns, though school shootings are an insane possibility of life anywhere in this country. My high school best friend's mom was also a teacher in Hartford for many years, in very rough schools, part of why I chime in on Gilmore Girls reactions to note Lorelei's parents live in an extremely sheltered enclave of that city.

I know, a big part of it is the actor as well. Amazing screen presence. I still think about his small part in The 25th Hour.

Technically no still. Haven’t been there since 2019 but the deal as explained to me then and from what l’ve read is still the case now is they’re illegal but decriminalized, and if you purchase and consume in a coffee shop it could technically be a civil penalty but there’s an understanding that you’d never face that in practice. Like half the US has more permissive laws on weed sale and possession than Amsterdam does in 2025. From what I’ve learned there it’s in keeping with Dutch history, like a few centuries earlier Catholicism was technically banned, but so long as mass was held in private it was still allowed in practice even if everybody knew. Got to tour the mansion of a wealthy Catholic family from that time in the center of the city where half of their home was a concealed Catholic Church that could seat like 200 people.

I believe it was this show that popularized the term "burner," although the term had been around before.

Agreed. It's an extremely memorable scene, but what the heck did Colvin think he would accomplish by doing this?

Drugs in The Netherlands are not legal, but some of them are officially 'tolerated', notably weed, mushrooms and stuff like mdma. The idea is, much like Bunny's: punishing use never solved anything - let's be pragmatic. So one is not legally allowed to carry and sell limited quantities, but nobody will enforce the law that does exist. There's a difference between various drugs, though, and a sharp line when it comes to quantity. The line is still not to pursue usage, but focus on trade. So you might get off lightly for carrying a dose of cocaine, but there is definitely enforcement on trading heroine, cocaine or other hard stuff.

I love how seriously this show took informing the public about the complexities of the world of the show.
