JENNIFER E

This is episode of tv has haunted me since I saw it. Several Deadwood cast members have said in interviews that the actor who played Miles was so difficult to work with that Milch re-wrote their final scenes to be extra brutal.

If that's true, it takes a MASSIVE ego to wear the "difficult to work with" hat on a show with so many talented and accomplished people.

My perception was always that Deadwood was pretty well and widely understood to be one of the goats (and understood by me that Swearengen is the greatest bad guy we love to watch to be on tv). I like to mention Rome because I always hear way less about it from other people. And my long term memory says don't discount Carnivale :) (though I can't say if it holds up)

Paul Verburg

The guy playing the reverend is Ray McKinnon. Beside a great actor, also the creator of Rectify, of one of those little gems of television that no one’s ever heared of. Good call of you not to look up actors’ names, because there will definitely be some more familiar appearances in this show down the road.

Here's a fun bit of trivia based on the conversation you were having: When David Milch came to HBO about creating a show, his original idea was to follow the development of law and order in Roman times. What he didn't know was that HBO was actively developing the series Rome. He kept the core idea and changed the setting and now we have Deadwood.

So glad that he changed it to this. I have not seen Rome, but I'm glad we didn't get two shows about Rome and we have this masterpiece.
