I love the sense of humour in this episode. From Snyder to the mixup to that cut to the dummy explaining his backstory and the end credit stuff. The show has always been smart and funny, but this episode really brought it.

Oh yes fuhrer snyder. Fun fact, the actor Armin Shimmerman is a legendary character actor who has appeared in probably every sci fi or fantasy show you have heard of, most famously as the bartender Quark in Star Trek: DS9. Snyder is an absolute blast and I think you will enjoy every minute of him as the principal.

Chris Warner

I love this episode and every episode for the rest of the season. Also a fun debut episode for the principal played by Armin Shimerman who is most famous for playing Quark the ferenghi on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Love the twist in this one. The "he's got good ears" comment is especially funny because the principal's actor, Armin Shimerman, played an alien on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine whose species has extremely large ears. rot13: Abobql fgnlf qrnq va fpvsv naq snagnfl... rkprcg Wblpr.

He is PERFECT in this role! He got the biggest laugh of a really funny episode right at the end: "I don't get it. Is it supposed to be avant garde?"

- There's some really effective and creepy filmmaking in this episode, but I always forget who the actual villain is because we spend so much time with Sid and Morgan, and the real bad guy is barely present. It also takes everyone WAY too long to realize something is up with the dummy. You're on a Hellmouth, guys! - Welcome to the show, Snyder! That actor is great. He's probably best known for playing Quark the Ferengi on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (who also had rather iconic ears). - [rot13 for spoilers] V sbetbg ubj yvggyr Pbeqryvn vf va guvf frnfba nf n jubyr. Hey, I remember you from the Mark Watches days! I was elphaba_cee. :-)

The casting of Snyder on Buffy was a very unique TV type deal with a regular for a show from one studio going on a show for another studio, but Star Trek and Buffy frequently aired on the same affiliates, so this made it an easy way to cross, promote two shows that both needed boosts in ratings at the time.

Mithroch

Principal Snyder joins the show. I take it neither of you watched a lot of Star Trek DS9 and are unfamiliar with Armin Shimerman's previous work.

ScarlettMi

Hi! Still watching people watch things! He was ahead of the game in the whole reaction thing.

Yeah I think the death rate helps explain why the new principal is so on edge, clearly been sent in to turn things around. lol I also love that in the part where he's being esp creepy and we start to suspect it's him- he's lit by red light, visually hinting that he's a red herring. ALSO, yay Joe, you're the first reactor I've seen to immediately pick up on my favorite bit of this ep! The lore drop about the slayer Sid knew is incredible, rather than a show about Sid, I think a noir-style 30s era show about a Korean slayer set in L.A. would be amazing. Generally speaking, I think the spin-off potential of this show lies most with exploring the lives of other slayers esp ones from the past, whether that's focusing on just one or a more serialized style show that gives us glimpses of a number of different slayers lives. So much potential within the world-building and only 9 eps in!

Youtalkingtome

That's awesome. I've admittedly never seen Star Trek. I was always a Star Wars guy, so I definitely didn't recognize the actor

"Nubile..." was so creepy! It's just not a pleasant word!

One of my if not my favorite episode from season 1. It's just such a good time. You get the high school staple of the bad talent show, plus a cool twist with Sid the dummy and a hilarious ending.

Jamie Morgan

Yeah, this one's a fun one! And we get introduced to the man, the myth, the legend, Principal Snyder! There's also a very underrated moment in this episode that's one of my favourite visual gags: when Xander notices Sid is gone from the chair in the library we see him get up and scream, then it cuts to Giles and Willow running over to him, and it smash cuts to Xander standing on the table. We don't hear him scrabbling to get up, no more screams, we just look away for 2 seconds and he's on the table like a mouse got loose XD

Erica

Armin Shimmerman seems like such a lovely man, and the way he plays snyder is INCREDIBLE. can't wait for you guys to get to know him!

Erica

Also, this episode plays with one of 2 golden rules of tv and movies: -if a woman throws up, she is pregnant -if someone has a headache, it's brain cancer

Erica

Oh, also, im listening to an interview with armin shimerman (it contains spoilers so i won't post a link to the interview), and he said that when he first asked about Sarah Michelle Gellar as a person and actor, he was told, "well she's 19, amd her background was in soap opera." so he was kind of like "ugh, a soap opera actress? And a 19 year old too?" And that initial bit of disdain informed the character of snyder right from the start. He goes on to say that over the next couple episodes, he came to learn that SMG was one of the finest actors he'd ever worked with, and evem though he was never rude to her out of character, he still went to her trailer to apologize for reducing her down to "19 year old soap opera actress," and said how wrong he was about her with his first impression

James B.

Nice tidbit. Based on what he said about working with the Seinfeld cast, it's clear he doesn't pull his punches.

Immediately after Buffy finds Morgan with his brain missing there was an advert break, including an ad for Behr Paint, which stated that using their paint was a "no-brainer".... :D

Tommy Ross

"Xander was once possessed by an African hyena!" Yeah, the gang doesn't have a great track record so far with believing each other
