My work Slack was just full of gifs from this today, awesome timing. Such a quotable/memeable movie.

This is incredible timing, it's like you knew I had insomnia! 😂 I believe this movie was largely hand-drawn. The story behind the production is actually really interesting, I recommend looking into it. It was supposed to be a grand epic about the Incan Empire, closer to something like The Lion King, but due to numerous issues they were pressured into changing it to a comedy. It really works, it's a brilliant Chuck Jones homage and I think it's hilarious, but it's a shame that Roger Allers' original idea will never be seen.

For the last time, it was not a kiss! But it is the video I’ve been waiting for!! Pull the lever, Kronk!

Sarah P

Whaaat! I’m so excited that I’m posting this when I see you’ve put the video up, even though I can’t watch it until tomorrow. Excellent. Good choice, gents!

Tangled has such good music, humor, characters, and gorgeous art style!

Inside Out 2 is absolutely as good as the first one!!!! Maybe better? Although that's a tough call

That poll was a tough choice, like 5 all-time greats there. Coin toss for me between this and How to Train Your Dragon. Kronk is EVERYONE's favorite. Obviously John Goodman and David Spade are great, but Patrick Warburton (Kronk) and Wendie Malick (Pacha's wife) are legends in the voice acting biz. Patrick Warburton is one of the main cast of The Venture Bros which I've recommended before as another unhinged serialized comedy like Arrested Development, and Wendie Malick stars in The Owl House alongside Mae Whitman (Ann? Her? also from Arrested Development). This movie is mostly hand-drawn. I wouldn't place a line between hand-drawn and computer animation the way you're thinking here anyway. Like yeah 2d movies around this time were produced on computers more, but not in a way that just leads to Toy Story. Toy Story and the 3d animated movies that came after it are all 3d models animated in 3d computer rendering software. That's entirely different from 2d movies in the mid 90s-early 2000s that used computers to make the traditional hand-drawn 2d animation process easier. Both are different forms of artistry that took advantage of advances in technology but one didn't lead to the other.

Might just be because I had too high expectations of the first one, which IS a good movie, but I do think Inside Out 2 is better.

It was a blast. A lot of the time, I feel like casting famous actors for voice roles is a marketing move (with such great vocal talent available, stars aren't necessarily always the best choice), but the casting of this film worked perfectly for the characters embodied.

Youtalkingtome

That makes a lot of sense. We weren't sure what the cultural focus was supposed to be, but it definitely felt like there were some South American influences on the aesthetics. The Incan Empire makes sense (ultimately it ended up not really being that integral to the story).

We put it on a poll not long after we watched #1, so we were really surprised it didn't win (I think Wall-E won that poll, so I'm not complaining at all).

Such a fun movie! Just wanted to mention one thing... "...cat energy." -- Yes! The voice actress for Yzma is none other than Eartha Kitt, the original Cat Woman from the 60's Batman TV show. She's also famous for singing "Santa Baby" and other classics from the Great American Song Book.

dys

I have no nostalgia-glasses for it because I only got around to watching it a couple years ago as not at all the target audience, Tangled is just plain good.

dys

David Spade and John Goodman were famous actors who could've been stunt casting in a lesser film but perfectly cast in this, but this becoming a cult classic so much rests on the Yzma and Kronk (who we all agree is the best) comedy making this movie, and Kronk's actor Patrick Warburton is primarily a veteran voice actor. You guys have a seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of TV and movie character actors you instantly recognize, Patrick Warburton is one of those versatile voice actors I instantly recognize.

dys

And of course Eartha Kitt as Yzma just rules.

Tyler Mckenzie

Fun Fact: Sting actually wrote the music to this movie when it was originally going to be a musical. Then they decided it worked better without the songs. Except for the opening song, which they kept in there.

On the Megan Kelly thing: Santa clause was based off of St. Nicholas, a Turkish Saint. So Santa Clause originally is brown lol

Pausing my watch to say — Y’all made it 12 minutes (maybe earlier if I didn’t notice) into this movie before you started immediately quoting Kronk back to us. Such is the power of Kronk. I return to my watch . . .

This was such a fun movie! I was kind of getting out of my Disney movie phase when this came out so I didn’t see it in theaters but I wish I had. Patrick Warburton makes this movie. So many great one-liners!
